I shared the Dahlia blanket journey here on my blog at the start of 2020. This project was worked as a CAL (Crochet-A-Long) over a period of 8 weeks throughout January and February 2020 for those who wanted to make a blanket along with me. Both the pattern and the colour information for making the Dahlia blanket is all here on my blog for you to access at any time, for free.
This was my sixth blanket CAL (Crochet-A-Long) and as in previous years it was an absolute joy to be a part of our worldwide creative crochet community. Blanket making is a beautifully creative and satisfying thing, but the whole experience is undoubtedly magnified when it is shared with other like minded souls.
The Dahlia blanket is inspired by the glorious colours found in these late summer flowers - it's a beautiful, uplifting colour palette which packs a real visual punch! The vibrancy and exuberance of the colours really matches the charm of these old fashioned flowers.
As is usual for my blankets, I've chose fifteen shades of Stylecraft Special DK for my Dahlia blanket

For my Dahlia blanket, I'm using an easy variation of a Spike Stitch which I think suits these colours perfectly. I wanted something that would echo the flower petals and I'm really super-happy with it.
This is a great stitch to crochet, a really clever construction which makes it very easy to see where your hook is going on each row. The counting is minimal (yay!) which makes it easy to keep on track, and I would definitely say this pattern is a good'n' for beginners, or for those looking for some soothing rows to sit on the sofa with.

I used the 15 shades in the Dahlia yarn pack to design two different blankets for the Crochet-A-Long (CAL).
Both variations use the same 15 colours.
The Mixed Stripe is a medley of colours inspired by the beautiful bunches of dahlias that I've been lucky enough to have in my home.

Every week when the Dahlia Crochet-A-Long was running I published a blog post to show the progress of my own blankets. I also shared lots more photos exploring the inspiration behind the colours as well as some glorious blankets in progress from the online Attic24 CAL community. I thought it would be helpful to list these blog entries here so that you can easily find them for lots of dahlia inspiration...
