Blogtober Day 19 :: at-home Saturday
A slow start today after a good nights sleep, grateful to ease into the day without a need to rush. We have a routine for our average at-home Saturdays and the familiarity of it somehow brings me a lot of comfort.
Today we had Little B with us, a chatty stroll into town to do our market and weekend food shop.
Walking up Sheep Street, it's about 9:15 so still pretty quiet in the centre of town.
We shop first at Marks and Spencers to buy food for the evening meal, then it's a stop to buy cheese from the market. We always buy extra mature cheddar as our go-to, with some additions every so often when we feel like a little cheesy splurge.
A little further down we fill two shopping bags with fruit and veg, there's always something good to take home. This week, the first satsumas of the season and my favourite Russet apples which go incredibly well with the extra strong cheddar.
I'm taking photos and Dominic (who knows me well by now) asks me if I'll be sharing it on my blog, and when I say yes, he declares he'll be famous by tea time! I ask him if he wants to be in my photo to say hello to you all, and after much joking and larking about he was more than happy to be snapped. Big shout out to him (DC Fruit&Veg), his cheerful personality and wonderful produce is always a Saturday pleasure.
Final stop of the morning is the warm and cosy café where we have very good coffee and some eggs on toast for breakfast.
Coming home from town on a Saturday, it's a time for me to do domestic things. Putting away all the food, turning around the laundry (usually two loads on Saturday), then some cooking. I made leek and potato soup today, and it was very yummy indeed. I treated myself to a new book which arrived yesterday, and my goodness it is stunning inside those pages. Maybe I'll share some of it with you next week, I'm quite in love with Kaffe Fassett.
2.30pm and with the weather all of a sudden looking rather bright and beautiful, we decide to head out for a walk. It's the four of us (the big boy-child is busy doing his own thing), and we decide to walk a circular route from home...
....heading across fields to a nearby village.
It's a really warm and sunny afternoon, I'm wearing a t-shirt and it feels like summer.
We decide to take a refreshment stop because we are close to the holiday park and love the country house pub that is there.
It's so mild that we can sit outside on the sheltered terrace and it feels sooooo good to have the sun warming my bones. Happy, happy, happy me.
Our stroll home down this leafy lane was gorgeous, the best kind of Autumn weather. I'll be incredibly happy if the rest of October looks like this.
And now I'm tucked up in bed, and tomorrow is a day with no plans...what a luxury that is.

Have you seen the Interviews with Kaffe Fassett on the Fruity Knitting podcast (on YouTube), Lucy? If not, I think you would enjoy - Episodes 116 and 117. Something for another windy rainy cozy-at-home day... :)

I went to a Kaffe Fasset quilt exhibition a few years ago - it was like a colour explosion! Just beautiful quilts which I couldn’t hope to copy! Much more comfortable with my crochet 😏☺️

Thanks for the reminder that Russets are in their too short season. I love them with Stilton.
Cheers for my Lunch tomorrow prompt.

A lovely day in Wales yesterday too, bought myself a new house plant.
Some years ago I went to an exhibition by a knitwear designer I was doing some knitting for and Kaffe Fassett was there too, his knitwear was amazing.

We had a glorious day down in Newquay Cornwall too. I spent it in my studio making sugarflowers and hubby Faz got the gardening & autumn leaves under control. I got distracted by strictly and the voice last night so need to catch up with my Flowerpress later today. On square 14

It is a cool, wet and misty morning here in KwaZulu-Natal. Thankful for the much needed summer rain and respite from the heat. . I’m tucked up in bed with all my cats and dogs and so enjoying reading your post. Thank you.

I’m reading this on Sunday morning with my coffee and Storm Ashley is battering the rain against the windows. Yesterday was beautiful, we sat on the bench in our front garden in the sun. We were joined by our neighbour who was widowed a year ago and comes round for a chat and then my brother and sister in law. It was a lovely afternoon with a glass or two of wine. Just simple things but very pleasurable.

Lovely photographs. And I'll remember to look out for Dominic, the next time I'm in town. Fingers crossed we see some more beautiful autumn days, but we're currently being battered by Storm Ashley, so I'm hunkering down today. Soup sounds good. Xx

What a wonderful day and beautiful photos. I stayed at that holiday park a few weeks ago with a friend when we went to Yarndale. It was so peaceful and the pub is lovely and cosy and they do an amazing lasagne! Finishing off a blanket today, another to add to the collection. Thanks for your beautiful photos. Can’t wait to come back to Skipton xxx

Ooooh, Russets, my absolute favourite apple, thank you for reminding me to look them out on my next veggie shop - doing everything in too much of a hurry at the moment! Happy weekend everyone!

Thought I recognised that gate and field. We've stayed at that holiday park a few times and walked that leafy lane and the hills behind. Your lovely photos tell me we need a return visit soon.

What a lovely Saturday you had Lucy and nothing planned for Sunday, what an absolute delight! Enjoy 🙂
We went on a walk today and lucky us, we found a new one close to home! I'm always whingeing and complaining that we don't have enough walks where we live! It was just lovely too, the path ran alongside a stream and there were a couple of small buttercup meadows which were just delightful!
There were also two very large ponds that were alive with nature! We saw lots of dragonflies, insects and birds. We also heard quite a few frogs croaking which is something I haven't heard here in NZ before.
I thoroughly enjoyed our little walk and it might become my new favourite. I just love nature, I love seeing healthy eco systems thriving!
Enjoy your Sunday, have a wonderfully restful day! Im looking forward to hearing how it went. Angela xxxx🙂❤️

We were in Skipton today and it was my birthday. What a lovely day for it!
We walked through Aireville park with our dog ‘Gorgeous George’ and back down into the bustling town, before having something to eat at the upstairs cafe in Craven Court.
I love Skipton and never tire of it !
Have a lovely weekend!

That sounds like a perfect day indeed and russet apples, what can I say, just the perfect fruit for autumn, but such a short season, so let’s enjoy them whilst we can. I’m developing a cold which is a bummer so I’m enjoying hot lemon and honey and an early night for a change. At least with the rain forecast for tomorrow I won’t feel so bad having a lazy day and a bit of crochet. Let’s hope the sun returns soon.

We had similar weather today. Took a flask of coffee and went to the nearest park. Full of colourful trees , their leaves glowing in the sun. Absolutely beautiful. Then on the way home discovered a new wool shop! Bought some Cygnet Colour Rush Chunky for some cosy slippers.

I'm always so very jealous of where you live and the open spaces you get to enjoy frequently. You really see the seasons changing. Your food photos are always inspiring too!

What a lovely day you’ve had. One to enjoy and memories made.
Mine was fairly quiet. Hubby went off for his Covid and flu jabs. So I did the laundry.
We had home made fish and chips for lunch.
Then off to see our daughter and grandchildren. Where we finished off her Chinese take away from last evening, you always get too much some how.
Home this evening and finished a baby beanie I started this morning, for the special care baby unit.
I’ve just got out my Christmas tree decorations patterns. Promised some for my daughter in her new flat, plus I need to make a couple for the newest grandchild for his Christmas tree.
Seems I might be busy for the next few days.
Have a lovely day tomorrow Lucy. Weather isn’t forecast great here in the south. Best Wishes Linda x
