Blogtober Day 16 :: Wednesday
I've been busy today, taking photos and also digging deep into my blog archives to look for old images as I've been creating a blog post to share the Big News from Stylecraft. I've also been rootling about in the Big White Box and having a play, and I'm looking forward to telling you more of the story tomorrow.
It has rained all day today, it was raining when I woke up (another early start, I've got craaaazy hormone goings-on at the moment), it rained for our morning walk, and it continued to rain when the two youngest left the house for work and school. More rain while I took the bins out, went for coffee and then prayed for LiGhT as I tried to take photographs in the grey gloom. On and on, still raining as I ate a bowl of soup for lunch and by 1.30pm I decided that despite the rain I just had to take a breather and get out of the house.
I needed to call into a couple of shops in town, so I took a short cut up this cobbled street which connects the canal side to the town centre. Earlier on this year (in the summer sometime), this little street was closed off and there was a whole TV crew involved in filming a scene for All Creatures Great and Small for Channel 5. We saw some of the cast sitting outside the old pub just round the corner, all dressed up in their splendid fairisle tank tops and tweedy outfits, the attention to period detail in the costumes and settings really is wonderful.
I thought you might enjoy a little glimpse at one of my favourite shop windows in town (called Emma's Apothecary), it's always really beautifully decorated for the seasons throughout the year. I walked past it today and it's in full-on Autumn mode, with just a touch of Halloween thrown in. It made me stop in my tracks and really take in all the details of the merchandise (which is a lovely mixture of gifts and home decor), I do appreciate a lovingly curated and creative shop window display.
The town was busy today because it's a market day and Wednesday is often a day when coach parties arrive so there are a lot of extra visitors. I like it when it's busy, the streets bustling with people shopping and enjoying a day out. It does make it slow going though because the pavements are quite narrow - we call it the "Skipton Shuffle" when it's busy with visitors and you have to really slow your walking pace down to accommodate them. Right at the bottom of the high street I saw this big wooden crate full of rain-soaked pumpkins for sale, the colour of them was amazing. So very orange!
Leaving the busy high street behind, it was a bit of a relief to move onto quieter streets as I walked to Tesco to do my food shop. The church yard was looking very autumnal....
....as was this little residential street next to the canal.
Yup, still raining....
....and drippy wet everywhere. Look how dark the afternoon was too, the above photo looks like twilight, and yet it was only 2.30pm.
Back home again, a bit soggy, but I never regret being out and about, it always makes me feel good. And at least my feet were warm and dry, I'm so happy about that! Love love loving my new boots I have to say.
I hope I haven't bored you today, I've been a bit short of time as I've been working on tomorrow's content. I know you've been with me along the canal so many times of late (I do walk along there every day so it is a big part of my daily routine), but thank you as always for your fine company as we do Blogtober together. If it's not too much trouble, please can you tell the rain to stop now? I'd really like a clear, bright day tomorrow if at all possible. Many thanks!

Hi Lucy, I'm a watercolour artist and was recently introduced to your blog by my friend Margot because of your lovely pictures. Now I've painted one of them (no easy decision😁) and would like to post it on my website and on Instagram. Is that ok with you? I can also sent you you a photo of my painting in advance by email if you like. Many greetings from Germany.

Love your post Lucy as always, such a shame about the rainy weather, it’s been the same down South, here (Thursday) but today, Friday has been much brighter and sunnier 🥳 Emma’s Apothacary shop look so gorgeous. I can’t remember seeing it when we came up to Skipton but I love looking at all the little interesting shops as well as the bigger ones too. Your posts are never boring Lucy, it’s always lovely to hear of the day to day things you have been up to and loving Blogtober so much. Hope you are doing ok and it’s not too stressful doing them, take care, love and hugs xxx 🥰🎉

It’s raining yet again in Australia too. I love your soggy pictures, never get tired of them. Makes me a little homesick for England. I love Blogtober and was hoping you would continue it this year. Looking forward to reading 17th Oct now. Keep well. Xx

I visited Skipton this past summer and I know about the shuffle. It was busy as can be. Looks very pretty in the autumn. I think I'd like another visit.

Aww I love Skipton (despite the rain) love your Blogtober posts and photos too as it reminds me of our canal boat holiday from Skipton in 2018. Seems like decades ago. It's been sunny here in Winchester, but more rain due tomorrow. Definitely crochet weather.

i love your walks around skipton, I have a feeling we park near you when we come and visit skipton (that amazing coffee shop where they roast their own beans!) and i'm always semi guessing 'which one is lucy's house' I'm also staring out at our beautiful sunshine in Leeds thinking you got your wish today! And what amazing news for 'the box' i have enjoyed everyone's photos of it on socials this morning. You have a real skill for writing Lucy, it is like catching up with an old dear friend for a hug and a walk around a park when i read your blog. I am selfish for loving your daily blogtobers - they are so lovely. as ever, thankyou for all your blog posts!

I never get tired of your posts and your walks around Skipton, and the area local to you.
Here in Scotland we had rain all day yesterday too. It looks brighter this morning and the autumn colours are looking wonderful. I hope you have some blue skies an sun today as well.
Looking forward to the big reveal today.

Poor weather, poor Lucy, poor me... you're affected just like I am - weather & mood being twisted together like a chord/cord! I was meant to go to a 'Jung & Dreams' session for my short uni course the other night, but it was cold, raining & I just wanted warm doona, snuggling pups & home.
BUT⁉️ Purple & yellow got a 'mention' in the pansy in your blog❣️❣️ Cheery 😍
I know, THAT combination is acceptable in FLOWERS❣️🪻🌼 (only) 🥰👌

Love the colours and your recording of the small details of life, it’s lovely to have a peek into your world and it makes me appreciate the beauty in mine 200 miles south! Our day was peculiarly mild and grey until the sun peeked through for afternoon tea outside at my little orange table with the magenta geranium and gold nasturtiums flaunting their last wild flush of colour! Then by the time I’d done some singing practice it was wet and soggy but still weirdly warm. Excited for the big surprise tomorrow 😊

Thanks for your Blogtober posts. I’ve been enjoying your blog as a great antidote to reels and stories. It’s nice to slow down and read for a change x

Love all your canal pics, Lucy, so never apologise for them; plus Skipton is very photogenic! Horrible day here in the NYM yesterday and we hunkered down with dreary paperwork, but made it more bearable by lighting the stove early, and then rewarding ourselves with our favourite gin afterwards (Barra Atlantic Gin, in case you ask!)

Fabulous to see your wonderful photos again and NO I never tire of your beautiful canal scenery - totally envious!! Loved that shop window too - very seasonal.
We seem to have had the Sun in the south this afternoon - sat outside for a little crochet after potting up a few bulbs! My kind of day 😃 but the rain hit hard in the evening
Looking forward to your reveal tomorrow

I never tire of your Skipton photos and having visited this summer for the first time, it’s wonderful to see places I visited in person! A lovely town and I hope to be back to visit again. Thanks Lucy, for your blog, it is a joy to read for both the crochet and non-crochet themes!

I always enjoy seeing the sights of a town that's so very far away from my world.

I wish you could send some of your rain across the pond! We could use some in north Georgia. I love getting to see the canal! The boats are so fascinating to me -- I have so many questions!
Thanks for posting! :)

The weather forecast tomorrow here in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, shows only sunshine... would love to share with you! It is cool here though, expecting our first frost tonight, and I just cut the last basil stems.
I so enjoy hearing about you revisiting favorite places your family went to when the kids were growing up... I find mine often very sentimental, they LOVE going back to those spaces and memories. It was Thanksgiving here this weekend, a big family holiday and a day off on Monday, and we enjoy favorite hikes and the joy grade school decorations bring, when they get their yearly airing: turkeys with hand-print feathers, all kinds of leafy projects... Never understood how one can buy new Christmas decor every year - mine is, like yours, all memories...
Looking forward to the rest of Blogtober and your big surprise!

Small details of life question, but how do you carry your groceries home in the rain? Do you have waterproof bags? Hoping for some sunshine your way soon!

We've had weird weather down here in Cambridge. Apparently it was 20° but it was not pleasant. Muggy, cloudy and just odd feeling. I'd like the cool weather back again please! Particularly if it's sunny too!

Your posts are never (never!) boring. Think about how good it feels to hear from a dear friend, no matter how newsy or spare the message may be. The treat is in being thought of! Here in the Pacific Northwest of the US it's been rainy, then sunny, then rainy again. Right now it's full on sunshine and blue skies with bright white clouds. I'm wishing the same for you.

I kept you company with the rain today. Fingers crossed for sun tomorrow. Loved your atmospheric photos. That apothecary shop looks gorgeous in the murky light of a rainy day. Always good to see your canal views. B x

Sorry, the weather has been so rainy and gloomy today. I'm not a fan of the rain either. I agree that getting out of the house for a bit each day is so beneficial! Your violas are looking gorgeous even in the rain. Here's to sunny days ahead!

Really enjoying your daily walk around Skipton as it is bringing back lots of happy memories of our stay there earlier this year. We actually stayed in a cottage on the cobbled street and I have an almost identical photo. There is lots of colour and beauty at this time of year even in the rain .

Another great post Lucy.
Sorry it’s been so soggy up north.
It’s been a humid, warm & damp day here in the south. We got 20C but it is raining now !! Better forecast for tomorrow and Friday, hope it lives up to it.
Managed to get some bulbs planted this morning not all but some.
After lunch a quiet drive into the local town, for a wander and pot of tea for me while hubby had a capachino.
This evening I am starting a Christmas stocking for my youngest grandson.
Sleep well Lucy.
Best Wishes Linda x
