Blogtober Day 22 :: Sunday
I slept for ten hours last night after an epic journey home from Dorset (six trains in total) and woke up around 9am completely discombobulated. I've been feeling a bit off kilter all day, but it's so lovely to be back home and to have a slow day pottering about with the family. It took me aaaages to be able to get up and get myself ready for the day, so it was almost midday by the time we left the house to go for a gentle walk through the woodland.
It's been a beautiful day, sunny and cold, and I enjoyed our walk very much. We wandered into town afterwards and went for a leisurely coffee, stopping to pick up some middle eastern style marinated lamb, soft flatbreads and salad for an easy evening meal.
I've done some home stuff today too, two loads of laundry and a bit of cleaning in the bathroom - J holds the house together pretty well while I'm away, but there is always a feeling of slight domestic chaos when I return. Mid afternoon I felt so tired I actually took myself back to bed and slept for a while. I was out like a light despite the long hours of sleep I had last night, so I'm glad I was able to listen to my body and deliver the necessary shut-down and re-boot.
This evening I started a cross stitch project, oh, my eyes didn't like it very much I have to say. I think I will need to either find a good, bright task light for evening work, or stick to day time stitching. Right....I need to sleep again.....sorry this is a brief Blogtober entry and a bit on the dull side, I'm hoping I'll feel a bit perkier by tomorrow. Night-night!

I'm not surprised the past few days left you exhausted, I hope you are feeling better now. A walk in the trees is always a very good thing I think. I struggle with the evening light for things as well, I have a half-finished cross-stitch for exactly that reason. CJ xx

I'm a big fan of Serious Readers lights. They are expensive but I got one last year and they're absolutely worth it for winter nights if you can afford it. One of the best things I've ever bought, and made by a small family company.

Hi Lucy . I use an OttLite for all my hand sewing projects. They have a clean clear light. I use mine daily . Hope you are feeling better today.

Dear Lucy, well deserved sleep and rest for recharging the empty batteries. A stressful time away followed by a train journey like that is exhausting, literally. I love your pictures.. new roads perhaps? X

For a lamp, I have something similar to this one but my stand is on wheels. My eyes are way older than yours so the magnifier plus lamp are a necessity.

Really pleased to hear you got home safely, I think anyone would be exhausted after all that travelling so 10 hours sleep is well deserved! I'm told I need more sleep, and to get out and walk. Maybe soon. Take care:)

I've recently bought a Foldigo portable light. It has 4 daylight levels and even the lowest is great. It was pricey but I think it is the only portable travel light which you can use even when you're charging it. You could use it at home and take it to your holiday classes.

Dear Lucy you truly can be excused for starting your day later than usual after such an epic journey home. It must feel wonderful to be back on familiar territory in the lovelyYorkshire Dales. Skipton is such a lovely town and the woods are very restorative and familiar. I’m sure that you felt like you were being wrapped in a hug as you walked through them
It has truly been a lovely day just over the Yorkshire border in sunny Lancs.
We have much to be thankful for even if the area does get a lot of rain.
Sleep well and you will feel much more rested and ready to face a new week in the morning. Best wishes to you and the family xx

Good to hear you've had a lovely restful day. I was going to say, put a bright light for evening stitching on your Christmas list...but lots of the 'health' blogs recommend limiting bright light in the evenings, so maybe not! Cx

Welcome home, Lucy. Sleep is the best thing for you. When you don't need to sleep so much, you won't. You equilibrium will restore itself. You might find a daylight-type of lamp with a manifying lens to be helpful with cross-stitch. I know I do. Over here, Ott makes several models. I'm so impressed that, no matter what, you get your walk in every day. I've got the coffee down; now, if I could just get that other little thing going, I'd be good. 😉

Thank you for taking time to update us after such an exhausting time. You're so right to listen to your body. As I have got older I need much more light to read and craft so am glad of a craft light over my shoulder. Some people like necklights or headlights but they don't suit my arthritic neck

Sleep is the best restorative, plus walks in green spaces, family love and coffee, so you have ticked all the boxes! Glad you have had a restful day x
