Blogtober Day 12 :: Thursday, Scarborough & Home again.
I slept really well last night, and woke up at 6am feeling well rested and energised after a full eight hours of deep sleep. My goodness, the dark sky was such a delight this morning - overnight the clouds had all cleared and there was a very thin crescent moon and alllll the stars. What a treat that was. Once again I was able to sit in bed and watch the daylight creep in, it's something I really miss when I'm at home because I can't actually see the sky from my bed.
As it started to get light, I decided to jump into action and get myself showered, dressed and packed up so that I could head out early to watch the sun rise over the sea. I wanted to spend some time exploring before I needed to check out of my accommodation and make my way homewards.
At 7.30 I was out and about, just as the sun was rising over the horizon, it was unbelievably lovely. A cold morning, crisp and fresh (around 5 degrees), but that golden sun filled me with happy warmth and energy.
I spent two hours just walking about, pottering around the beach and up and down the cliffside where there are a great many paths to follow and things to discover. I took LOADS of photos, but I've decided to wait and share them tomorrow when I've had a chance to process it all.
I checked out of my cosy nest room at 10am, and began the slow amble into town towards the train station. You can see the big building on the left of the above photo, that's the Grand Hotel which made Scarborough a world famous resort in Victorian times.
Travelling by train from the Yorkshire coast is a breeze and two hours passes very quickly.
I couldn't believe how much water there was in in the valley just outside Skipton - it was literally like a huge lake! this is flood water after the recent extensive wet weather we've had in the North. My goodness, so much standing water where there are usually green fields.
Words can't describe how much I enjoyed my forty eight hours away by the sea, it was absolutely blissful for so many reasons. And yet, there is such a lot of comfort in coming home again, and knowing that I was missed. The kitty practically pinned me to the sofa as soon as I sat down to finish up my stripe.
What's this, a glass of prosecco? In the middle of the afternoon?? Why yes, it is indeed......because today I celebrate fifty five years on planet Earth. Happy Birthday to me! I opened some lovely cards and gifts from family and friends, ate a delicious slice of salted caramel cake and then went out for dinner this evening so I didn't have to cook. I keep thinking about this morning, and how special it was to watch the sun rise over the sea on my birthday, what a gift that was. I am one lucky human being.

October is a busy month for birthdays here. Four within three days.
My daughter is a very talented artist. A few more years until we find out if her second cousin born 46 years after her is too. :-)
Happy Belated Birthday.

Happy belated Birthday and how lovely to pop on a train and head of to the seaside. At this moment in our life I would so love to do just that, get in the car (hubby would be stranded as we only have one now) and find somewhere for a few days to do my own thing. Jx

Fifty-five is a wonderful age to be. Congratulations on attaining it. Your seaside retreat sounds just about perfect. All I know about Scarborough is through the Simon & Garfunkel song; which is to say, almost nothing. How lovely it is there! And it didn't look crammed with tourists, either. That makes for a peaceful stay. Best wishes for a fulfilling year to come. Happy birthday!
