Hellooooo! Friday evening already, and I'm sat at my desk all chilled and comfy in my pyjamas feeling a little tired but in a nice way, you know the kind of physical tired that comes when you almost need it? Because I know that I'm going to flop into bed a little later on and be asleep within a short minute, and I cannot wait. I get ridiculously excited about going to bed as I love it so, so much. I think it's just the most comforting, beautiful thing to be able to climb into a cosy, familiar bed with clean cotton bedding and feel totally at ease with the day coming to a gentle close. No worries, nothing to noodle over, just the blissful feeling of being physically tired and ready to rest and nurture my body so that energy is restored for the following day. Simple daily pleasures, they are the very best kind to celebrate and be thankful for.
J and I popped into the café for an Outrageously Good Coffee this morning and he was asking me how my daily blogging was going. I told him I'm really loving being back in the Attic and am thoroughly enjoying the positive response to my daily ramblings (and thank you SO much if you've left me a comment this week, I read every single one and adore hearing from you). I said that I'm slightly worried about the repetitiveness of my posts as I have a lot of routine in my days at the moment and don't tend to do very much of interest really. He said he thought that the very mundaneness might be a comfort in these times of uncertainty, and that I shouldn't worry, just to keep it real. I thought that was an interesting way to look at it, and well, my blog has always been very honest and real, I never go out of my way to do things simply to have something to blog about. So I hope you don't mind the ordinariness too much.
I spent some time with a few good friends this morning but didn't think to take any photos - too busy chatting, laughing, sharing stories, drinking coffee and knitting half a sock gusset. It was so enjoyable, the company of lovely people and the pleasure of gentle stripy rows on my needles.
J and I took a walk this afternoon, deciding to stride out across fields as a change from the woods. It was sunny and bright with very blustery winds, the sort of weather that fills you with energy as you take in the miles. As you can see from the above photos, quite a bit of the walk is along very quiet country lanes and it was so atmospheric in the afternoon sunshine. I enjoyed it very much - walking has always been something we've done for pleasure but since March our daily walks have become such an essential component of my wellbeing and coping strategy in these very strange times.
I hope that wherever you are in the world that you are finding joy in lifes small daily pleasures. I hope you are sleeping well and enjoying fresh air, that you can laugh with friends and have some beautiful yarn run through your fingers. I'll see you again tomorrow, thank you very much for keeping me company xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Love your posts and so look forward to them. They give me a gentle optimism to begin my ordinary and beautiful day. I love the way you write too. Thank you💕

Lucy your photos and blog posts are a delight, please don't stop! I live in Blackpool so there aren't many country lanes round here, and as I work during the week and am trying to avoid the crowds at the weekends, I don't get out very much so your walk photos are a much needed green therapy for my town-befuddled eyes. The yarn pictures and Tilly portraits are wonderful too. Thank you xx

I do have a very ordinary life, too. I love reading your blog thank you for your honest and optimistic and grateful outlook on life. It's helpful and so good!

I may be 71 years old, but I've decided that when I grow up, I want to be you. I want to walk on those paths and through your lovely town and along the canal and into the woods. I want to live in that cheerfully colorful home and sit in front of the fire. I live in the desert near Tucson, Arizona and I find your colors are so different from mine. I love all your flowers, all the green, and your rain. (I do miss the rain.) You take me to a place I've never been. Thank you for letting me live a little bit each day in your life. Uh oh, I'm starting to sound like a stalker. :-)

J is absolutely right! I’m thoroughly enjoying these posts. I moved out of my parents’ home and into a home I purchased this summer... it’s very comforting to know that others enjoy the blissful ordinariness of a live lived wholeheartedly.

Thank you so much for being back in the Attic. I have missed reading your blog posts while you took a break. J is right about your everyday posts. It helps at this time to have something be the same. It's refreshing.
Enjoying your blog from Ontario Canada

I love reading about your everyday life, and seeing the photos you take on your walks. It may seem very ordinary to you, but to so many people following your blog it is interesting because different from our own lives. For those of us who no longer live in Yorkshire or even in the U.K. it’s a comforting glimpse of home. Your ‘’mundane’’ posts are like a chat with an old friend ... a gentle familiarity that makes my day feel better. In this strange and unsettling year we are all living, the familiar is calming and reassuring. Whether about crochet or the countryside, your creative process or even sitting by the fireside, I enjoy all your posts. Thank you for sharing these snapshots of your life with us x

As we are still in the endless cycle of lockdown, reading that others are able to see friends and share coffee is something to look forward to some time in the future. Thank you for your posts.

Lovely Autumn pictures. We've enjoyed a comforting 'Lucy's Lentil and Peanut Bake' for dinner. Always goes down a treat and gets lots of compliments :)

J is absolutely right, the comforting, everyday things are perfect, and I always love following along with you. You have a knack of writing very cosy, warm, comforting prose and coming here is always a few minutes' solace. So I'm very happy you're writing every day in October. Glad you got to spend some time with friends this morning, the best kind of therapy for these uncertain times. Hope you have a good weekend. CJ xx

I too am enjoying the glimpses of an ordinary day in Yorkshire.Your "J " is right. (my husband is from East Yorkshire). I enjoyed the article about Anna at Willow. I love it when you give interesting info. How about a pic from the Attic window? I used to love reading the adventures in Connievan. Few years ago now.

I love the ordinary every day things in life. It's what most of life is, the simple pleasures. I love the pictures you capture. One day I hope to come to Skipton for a holiday and experience some of the beautiful countryside for myself - something to look forward to. Thank you for sharing as always.

My son got married three weeks ago tomorrow. Only 21 people because of Covid. No singing in church. Masks and social distancing required. They’re planning on having a reception at the end of March......but will this be over?? I doubt it. So reading your daily comings and goings is such calm for me!!! Zen blogging. ❤️

I think most of us appreciate your days as we all seem to be almost in a pattern of living with no rush to get anywhere, appreciating the sunsets and the beautiful flowers that are hanging on waiting for Winter. Our beautiful ISLE OF Anglesey is breathing a sigh of relief as most of the tourists have gone and it can now prepare for a beautiful Autumn and hunker down for Winter!Thankyou Lucy.

I get a lump in my throat each time I view your beautiful snapshots of Yorkshire life having spent many holidays walking the lanes and hills around Skipton before migrating to NZ. [I think] there is no where like England for the leafy, meandering walkways - always with a surprise somewhere along the way. We live in a beautiful part of NZ and have many walk and cycleways provided [by the Council] but the very nature of the landscape is so different and I guess one’s heart is always in our homeland.
Enjoy your wonderful life and family, as indeed I do each time I read your blog. :)

Hello Lucy! This is the first time I have ever posted on your blog but I have been following you for quite some time. I love reading about your daily walks, your family and most of all your crochet and eagerly look forward to your posts and your photographs. I am familiar with the Yorkshire Dales, having holidayed there several times and indeed my husband is a Yorkshireman so I am proud to have that connection to the area. I have found it a lovely release from all the doom and gloom of the present time to read your blogs and really appreciate the time you take to share with us all. Can’t wait to read tomorrow’s post. Thank you lots.xx

I am enjoying your daily blogs and pictures of the surrounding countryside. Your days sound wonderful and so chilled and leisurely, I am so envious! I look forward to reading them for the rest of the month and am looking forward to making one of your beautiful blankets. Love the new fireplace decorations!

I love your "ordinary" all-day life. My life has been so different after COVID hit. Your little view of your daily creative life is very comfortable. Thanks, dear ;>*

I have followed your blog since the very beginning. I cannot tell you how I excited I still get when I see that you have a new post, bc I know that there will be beautiful photos of your outings and info about a new colorful project. Most of all, I love to see and read about how you live your life, season to season, as you raise your family. It brings me joy!
I worked with seniors for 15 yrs, and interviewed them for articles about their lives. Every single one asked me why I would want to write about him/her bc he/she only lived an ordinary life. There is no such thing. Each life is so fascinating and beautiful!! So, please, don't stop!!

I have been a reader of your blog and website plus a maker of your designs for many years. You are like a breath of fresh air. I have always loved your enthusiasm for color and life. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us.

I love seeing your photos and hearing about your very ordinary days, walking cooking, cleaning your muddly shelves and just being normal. I like the idea that there are similarities between us (although I wish I could walk as far as you do!).
I think so much on social media is staged and tarted up and not real, which is a pity. Life is not all sunshine and roses and endless excitement and exotic stuff. Mostly it’s about getting tea on the table and the bin out.... and if we are lucky, a bit of yarny fun in between.
How about a photo from the attic window one day.... I’ve missed those!

Thank you so much for the ordinariness of your posts - as someone who had to shield, has therefore still been avoiding most face to face contact and who is now in bed poorly with a chest infection I am loving seeing glimpses of your everyday. I can almost feel like I am taking those walks with you, especially as once lockdown eased together with my hubby and younger son we started to walk the Thames Path. I'm missing it a lot more than I expected and gutted that these last few sunny Autumn days have been spent in bed coughing. So thank you for bringing the sunshine, outdoors and simple pleasures into my bedroom this week!
