Hellooooo! Friday evening already, and I'm sat at my desk all chilled and comfy in my pyjamas feeling a little tired but in a nice way, you know the kind of physical tired that comes when you almost need it? Because I know that I'm going to flop into bed a little later on and be asleep within a short minute, and I cannot wait. I get ridiculously excited about going to bed as I love it so, so much. I think it's just the most comforting, beautiful thing to be able to climb into a cosy, familiar bed with clean cotton bedding and feel totally at ease with the day coming to a gentle close. No worries, nothing to noodle over, just the blissful feeling of being physically tired and ready to rest and nurture my body so that energy is restored for the following day. Simple daily pleasures, they are the very best kind to celebrate and be thankful for.
J and I popped into the café for an Outrageously Good Coffee this morning and he was asking me how my daily blogging was going. I told him I'm really loving being back in the Attic and am thoroughly enjoying the positive response to my daily ramblings (and thank you SO much if you've left me a comment this week, I read every single one and adore hearing from you). I said that I'm slightly worried about the repetitiveness of my posts as I have a lot of routine in my days at the moment and don't tend to do very much of interest really. He said he thought that the very mundaneness might be a comfort in these times of uncertainty, and that I shouldn't worry, just to keep it real. I thought that was an interesting way to look at it, and well, my blog has always been very honest and real, I never go out of my way to do things simply to have something to blog about. So I hope you don't mind the ordinariness too much.
I spent some time with a few good friends this morning but didn't think to take any photos - too busy chatting, laughing, sharing stories, drinking coffee and knitting half a sock gusset. It was so enjoyable, the company of lovely people and the pleasure of gentle stripy rows on my needles.
J and I took a walk this afternoon, deciding to stride out across fields as a change from the woods. It was sunny and bright with very blustery winds, the sort of weather that fills you with energy as you take in the miles. As you can see from the above photos, quite a bit of the walk is along very quiet country lanes and it was so atmospheric in the afternoon sunshine. I enjoyed it very much - walking has always been something we've done for pleasure but since March our daily walks have become such an essential component of my wellbeing and coping strategy in these very strange times.
I hope that wherever you are in the world that you are finding joy in lifes small daily pleasures. I hope you are sleeping well and enjoying fresh air, that you can laugh with friends and have some beautiful yarn run through your fingers. I'll see you again tomorrow, thank you very much for keeping me company xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I love reading your daily posts and the pleasure you take from everyday life. It is so comforting and teaches me to do the same in my everyday. You have a very wise man there, you lucky lady! xxx PS I love all your photos too!

Your blogs are great! I love the reality of them. Just real in the every day. No pretence, just sharing the simple comforting things we all love. ❤

I've so missed your blogs while you've had a (well-earned) break and it's lovely to catch up with you. I think J's right that what may sound mundane and ordinary is in fact incredibly comforting, especially at the moment. When you think about it you're writing a social history of an artist in the late 20th/early 21st centuries and it's fascinating to see what inspires your work. So huge thank you. :-)

J is absolutely right. It's the small repetitive things that bring us the most pleasure. And they're the things we often overlook. I make it my mission in life to live well on a very small income, money poor but time rich. So I try to cook from scratch and to mend and repair my things. And to only buy what I love so it breaks my heart to get rid of them! I believe in being content with small things as a sort of happiness.

Lucy having following your blogs for many years I love your daily write ups and am never bored . I return to connect with you and your family’s stories and love the routines you have as they connect with my routines too. Never doubt your followers. Xxx

J has it right, mundane is comforting in these worrying times. I'm in country Victoria, Australia, and haven't seen one of my daughters (locked down in Melbourne)for months. I so enjoy your photos of the beautiful scenery on your walks, and the glimpses of your everyday life. Thank you!

I miss your posts when you take a break—no judgment, mind you, you’re just missed! I love your photos, and they’ve encouraged me to document more of my life in pics. Thank you for sharing!!

like another of your commentator i live in outer Melbourne due to being sick earlier in the year for a few months i lost my walking mojo plus my husband was really worried about me walking though the forest as if i collapsed cars are not able to get in and get me out, mainly better now, but no mojo and he wont walk with me more is the pity,it will be so nice when we are able to go out and about and more than 5k from home.I don,t mind so much but it is starting to wear on my husband, we both have lots to do and as it is now spring time to get the garden up and running.so really enjoy your blog but cant understand why bloglovin dosen,t give every day only here and there quite frustrating really.

Hi Lucy, I agree with J the simple daily rhythms are very comforting. I’m in Melbourne, Australia, where we are in lockdown, face masks must be worn, you can only leave home to shop or medical reasons and for a walk/run/bike ride. This has been going for months so to read about a normal life is just what I need.

J is very wise. It is precisely that gentle 'ordinariness' that helps me feel connected to you in the Attic. I would venture a guess that many of our lives are spent content in the 'comfortable ordinary', and you sharing that that is how your life is as well just makes you feel more of a friend than some 'untouchable entity' that blogs.
I'm not certain if any of the above makes any sense at all. Suffice it to say, that these 'mundane' posts are very much something I look forward to (this month on the daily!) whenever you post from your Attic!💖

It's so good to have you back here on a regular basis. I am a quilter, I don't knit or crochet, but I love following you and others when they are just keeping it real. It feels like catching up with good friends. Thank you for sharing a little bit of your life with us.

The best thing people can do right now is to get outside in the sunlight and breath fresh air without a mask. Not sure wearing masks all the time is healthy for us. Love reading about your "mundane" life. It sounds very pleasant to me. I'm with you about looking forward to getting into bed at night. So thankful to have a comfy bed, a roof over our heads and know we are in a safe place. We aren't as locked down as some places. We can go out to eat at restaurants, go to church and we can have company so it's not too bad. I will be glad when this is all over, though. Never think we are bored reading your blog. I'm always glad to see a new post from you. I've been reading your blog for years.

Lovely to read your blog, and seeing all your photos are very inspiring.

J is absolutely correct! I was wondering if the other comments would agree and to my delight I see I'm NOT the only one that thinks 2020 has been a roller coaster and mundane is rewarding. Thank you for a tiny bit of normalcy - no drama, no sorrow, no anger.

I love reading about your every day life. I live in southern California and it has been very hot and bad air quality here of late. This week was better, but mor hot weather coming next week. Climate change is so real. I miss fall weather and love seeing your pics of the beauty.

I know I don't comment often, but I have been absolutely delighted with your posts this month! I have been reading your blog for a few years now, and I love this record of your life, the food you cook, the goods you bake, the photos of your neighbourhood, and, most of all, your crafting and the colours that come with it.
Thank you so much for writing this blog, I wish you nothing but health and happiness. :)

Your words are very comforting Lucy and I look have forward to reading your blog this week. I’ve been feeling a bit wobbly this week after my husband was diagnosed with cancer last year and I’ve realised that all the feelings I have had about it have been pushed aside. Anyway, now they’ve decided to pop up and it’s just been lovely to read your blog to help keep my thoughts calm. Thank you x

I love reading your blog. The pictures, the blankets and knowing that others are going through life at the same mundane (in a good way) pace is comforting. I just love your blankets and currently to the point in one where it actually keeps me warm while i'm going along and its just lovely. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for your lovely uplifting blog. I do so enjoy seeing your photos of the beautiful countryside around your home. When we moved to our present home almost 40 years ago, we were on the edge of the village. Times change and now we are surrounded by houses, more and more are being built, and the HS2 is under construction in our county (nuff said about that), so we are becoming further and further away from the fields. Your blog is a welcome breath of fresh air.

No such thing as ordinary Lucy; you are unique and what you write is uniquely yours. I guess what those of us who follow your blogs share with you is a love for what you represent - a gentle, colourful, yarny way of life. Often wish I had you to consult over a pattern or a colour choice but have to make do with my people! You’ll never know how much you’ve inspired and delighted me over the years. Thank you.

Love reading your blog. I think it connects us all, wherever we live in this time of Covid. My daughter-in-law just recovered from it and this week went back to work, she's an RN( nurse). That's where she got it. Thankfully my son has antibodies, must have had it earlier but doesn't know. Grandsons didn't get it. I feel blessed so your blog with beautiful pictures help calm this 69 year old. We will all get through this hopefully next year. Living in Las Vegas area there are places we can drive where there are not many people. Also peaceful, quiet, desert vistas.
You take care and stsy safe.

Hi Lucy, thank you for sharing the lovely photos and snapshots of life in Yorkshire. I'm down south in Surrey and so enjoy being outside but I'm finding it a challenge at the moment. I've had to give in to using an electric wheelchair and I'm not confident going out on my own and the children don't want to by the time they get in from school. We are escaping this morning for a meander and hoping it stays dry long enough. Keep going with your blog posts please, I love them. 😊😍
