It feels like a while since we took a family walk in the countryside as usually J and I take advantage of our childfree time during the week and head out to walk just the two of us. We had been prepared to walk in rain today as the weather forecast was a bit grim, but it actually turned out pretty good. So after a lazy start to the day (with an extra hour to play with after the clocks changed last night) we eventually rounded up the two youngest kidlets and drove out into the Yorkshire Dales to appreciate the weather and the seasonal colours.
We parked the car at Linton Falls so that we could follow the footpath all along the river. The falls were spectacular today, with very high and rapid water and an immense amount of noise. I love it when it's like that, it really does take your breath away. I thought you might appreciate seeing a little more of this location, I found a short video on YouTube which gives you an idea of what it's like in Autumn/Winter - click HERE to watch (and listen).
Our usual thing when we do this walk is to head for the Old School Tearoom in Hebden for a half-way refreshment stop. It takes maybe an hour to walk there which means that by the time you arrive you are generally pretty ready for a sit down and a drink. However, the Cappuccino Gods were not looking after me today as the café was incredibly busy both inside and out with not a single seat to spare. There was also a big queue going on for takeout drinks and the whole place was overwhelmed and overcrowded. J took one look, shook his head and made tracks to leave immediately, he doesn't like crowded places and especially not in the midst of a global pandemic. I was disappointed but not a lot to be done other than suck it up and walk back along the pathways to enjoy the scenery.
It was a lovely walk, but my goodness it was really busy out there along the riverside and that kind of took some of the pleasure away. Passing through gates, over stiles, and along some stretches of the path that were narrow felt tricky as there were just so many groups of people. It was still very enjoyable to be out and about though, soaking up the sunshine when it broke through the clouds and breathing in the fresh country air. And do you know what I did when I came home? I made myself a mug of milky coffee and a hot water bottle and tucked myself up in bed for a while, just for the absolute comfort of it. It felt quite decadent to get back into bed in the middle of the afternoon (I even had a little snooze, living my best weekend life).
I do like Sundays, especially ones which are at the start of the school holiday. No alarm for me tomorrow, hooray!!!!

Hello Lucy
I too have been following your daily feed and blogs over the years but have never commented. I’ve tackled many of your projects made so much easier with pictures. But I wanted to say what a saviour your daily posts are now. I’m Irish but in Palestinian and love seeing the coziness of the wet and windy weather and the fire lighting. We are in the heat and a second lockdown for the past few months and I keep your post as my daily treat with a coffee after I have sorted out family life and online schooling for my children. So after many years I just wanted to say thank you a truly heartfelt thank you for helping all of us around the world. Its such a lift In these days.

Hello, Lucy,
It's been such a pleasure to read your blog every day, thank you so much!
The colours in these pictures are amazing! I love that dramatic feeling of a cloudy sky with some sunshine appearing between the clouds... Here in southern Brazil we're in the midst of a long drought and are happy with every rainy day this year!
I have been reading your blog for quite some years now, but I rarely take the time to write a comment, sorry for that! I have crocheted a blanket for my eldest son using your neat ripple pattern when I was pregnant. That was some years ago, and now I'm starting a blanket for my youngest son, who chose the Summer Garden Granny Square pattern and is constantly watching my progress. ;)
So, thank you again for inspiring us.
Best wishes, and still happy belated birthday!

The autumn colours in your corner are still so bright an vibrant. The gales seem to be stripping our trees daily. I remember walking by those falls many years ago. Such a beautiful area. Have a lovely week. B x

I agree, the best day of the holidays is the first one when you feel free and everything is still possible.

Thank you once again sharing the beautiful Autumn over there to us who are going into our Summer. Perth WA weekend was very hot Mid 30’s and it’s not even Summer yet. Two things happen around our house in the last couple of days, first the roller blind fell down while I was getting it up, allbok I didn’t get hurt. Yesterday we went to one of our shops that sells everything, craft things, yarns homewares (Spotlight). Anyway, we went to look at blinds when we got home our neighbour came round and asked did we hear all the noise, of course we didn’t as we were out. Turns out there was a mini tornado (we call them Willy Willy’s) which had come pass and knock part of our fence down. Upside while at Spotlight I bought some yarn 🧶 😁. Chin chin Jackie x

I went for an autumn walk today too. The sun was shining and the colours of some of the leaves were glorious. We didn't even have to put coats on just a hoddie zipped up was enough. Having the extra hour was wonderful. I did a bit of card making when I returned and in the evening some crochet so a very pleasurable day here too. Those falls look amazing and I even spotted a couple of brave souls on the water. You are probably fast asleep by now so I hope you slept well.

Lovely Autumn colors there. I love the comfort of a milky coffee ( not too strong) when I go to bed at night, sometimes with a bit of crochet.
