Pretty much all day today from start to finish I have thought it was Wednesday, I've no idea why but I have been convinced of it. I went out to the front doorstep first thing this morning to bring in the milk, but of course there was none as the delivery comes on Wednesdays. I walked into town after the school run to visit the market, but of course there was no market as it is in fact Tuesday. Yes, Tuesday all day, but no matter how much I told myself this it still felt like a Wednesday.
The weather this morning at 8.30am was delicious, a real cold snap in the air and the bluest, clearest sky up above.
Little B was not impressed with me stopping to take so many photos on the way to school, complete with a gushing running commentary on the beauty of it all. In fact, it made us three minutes late and the poor boy had to run the final stretch to make the door on time. But just look at the way the canal looked!! It would have been a crime to just rush on by without stopping to drink it all in and capture the moment to share. This is the joy of blogging, it gives me a reason not only to to stop and stare (which I would do anyways) but to go that extra step and photograph it so that I can document and commit the moment to memory. Blogging is the very best kind of memory-keeper and I love it dearly for that.
After my jaunt into town to visit the market that wasn't there, I felt a bit off kilter and found myself unexpectedly up at the top end of the high street. So I decided to leave the streets behind and drop down to walk home along the side of the canal....
....this bit of the canal is the "Spring Branch" extension which connects the canal basin with the woods, stopping just beneath the castle.
It made me feel absurdly happy to walk along here on my way home from the invisible market, a beautiful end to a strangely wasted trip. Although I did go and buy strawberries and kale from Marks and Spencers, so it wasn't all wasted time.
Marks and Spencers also tempted me to buy a bunch of yellow Chrysanthemums, even though I don't usually like these cheap and cheerful flowers very much. There was just something about the bright colour and cute little button-like blooms which called to me, so I gave into the urge.
I love them in this stripy jug on my table, they do really bring a little sunshine into the room.
Talking of flowers, I have an update on the front garden planting sitch - I have violas! YAsss!! They are the dearest, sweetest little floral faces and I am desperately in love with them of course. The plantlets are tiny, but I think will be just right to fill the small gap in my wall planter alongside the cyclamen. I'll show you once I've gotten them situated into their new home.
When I came home from my wander I was hungry so I made myself a bowl of hot porridge for breakfast. Underneath that pile of fresh fruit there is a small serving of milky oat porridge, cooked with a few chopped up prunes for extra sweetness and fibre. I eat my breakfast around 10am usually and I think it's my favourite meal of the day.
I've felt a bit discombobulated today, my head has been in a muddle and I haven't been able to focus or settle down to do anything. My morning drifted by in a blur of goodness-knows-what. I stripped and washed my bedding, did some printing for a friend who needed some forms but doesn't have a printer, posted my Wednesday #challenge on Instagram, then a few minutes later deleted it again when I realised for the umpteenth time that it wasn't actually Wednesday. You get the picture, it's been an odd one! My big Teen had an exam today, the second of two that he chose to resit for one of his A levels. So I mothered him accordingly, making him cheese on toast for lunch and providing a freshly ironed shirt, but resisting the urge to hug him as I saw him out the door.
At 1pm I still felt a bit odd in my head, but I gathered together my knitting and pootled down the hill to Coopers café to sit a while with a few good friends. We aren't able to hold our usual busy creative get togethers as there isn't nearly enough space to socially distance at the café and we have the "rule of six" that we need to follow. But sometimes there are 3 or 4 of us who can meet up informally, sitting around a table large enough to feel safe and comfortable with each other. It is such a blessing, and I am making the very most of these little gatherings as restrictions are beginning to tighten again up here in the north of England.
I drank my decaf cap and worked around and around the foot of my sock and for a few hours my mind was at peace. And it felt like Tuesday and not Wednesday for a while....yay!
Predictably, as soon as the clock struck 3 and it was time for the school run, the weather deteriorated. By the time we arrived home there was a steady light rain falling - well I say falling but it was actually hitting the window horizontally due to the gusty winds, and I was very glad to finally be indoors and not out.
I love love love lighting the fire, it's one of those daily jobs which gives me an intense feeling of contentment. I sat for a weeny while wrapped up in my Dahlia blanket just looking into the flames and feeling the warmth seep into my bones and settle there. Some days just feel harder than others for no apparent reason other than they weigh a little heavier somehow, don't you think? I feel quite glad to bring this odd feeling non-Wednesday to a gentle close.
I put a few of the tiniest little flower stems into an old mustard jar beside my bed earlier, just after the fresh pillowcases and sheet went back on. A little ritual that I don't often remember to do, but it's just the sweetest thing to have a miniature posy of flowers to wake up to in the mornings. Do you ever put flowers beside your bed? Oh, you should! Just a sprig or two is all you need......promise me you'll try it?
Right, on this strange day that really isn't Wednesday, I shall love you and leave you until tomorrow when it really will be Wednesday for real. Hmmmm.....I wonder if tomorrow will feel like Thursday???!!! See you then... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ahaaaaaaa, this is why so many new wonderful ladies are coming to visit today. I was starting to wonder what it was all about...:) You see me beaming and blushing? I can't include that beaming Emoji here but you get the picture. Thanks for the mentioning Lucy, it's very kind of you and it encourages me to keep on doing what I'm doing. Every blog post gets a little bit easier to create, with baby steps I do rediscover my voice and my words... Even if I just last night thought "Give it up Annette, just let it go..." but just like you, the blogging gives me a reason to snap those special moments in a picture, add them into my journal and share them with others together with some thoughts and rambles. Love the idea of posies on my night table... I'm gonna give it a go for sure. Have a wonderful day my friend. Stay warm and cozy.

It is certainly easy to get one day confused with the next while spending almost every day indoors!
I am loving your blog, it is so inspirational. I feel like we're sitting over coffee just talking about your day. Your photos are beautiful and I love the fireplace in your home!
I actually love Mums in the house this time of year, although I tend to go towards more reds or oranges if I see them. I currently have some right in front of me on my dining table in fact. I just love them. I'll have to put a few in my room and see how that works out!
I do hope you're having a great Wednesday, and that it feels like a Wednesday!

It’s so weird to have your days mixed up but an advantage that it’s a day ahead not a day behind! I often get those COVID- blues days - we work thru them though. Big hugs xx

Loving your posts. I get days confused regularly. It must be my age!😃I've still got some lavender in my garden, and as I've said before still not sleeping great.I will put some in a jar at the side of my bed tonight. I'm hoping it will stop Mr B snoring as well. 👍

Hello Lucy! I am really enjoying your daily posts. It feels like a return to how blogging used to be (pre Instagram days), when I read a select number of blogs to which I felt a connection and allowed me to be immersed and inspired by someone’s words and photographs for a few minutes of my day. So many bloggers seem to have stopped posting these days (or have made the switch to Insta) so it’s good to have you back. I am about halfway through your Coast blanket which I am making for my 8 month old son and I completed the Sweet Pea blanket for my 3 year old daughter earlier this year - it was my first ever crochet project and took me a LONG time! I wish I had more time to crochet but time is limited with demands of my little ones. I haven’t commented on your blog before but it’s the early hours of the morning and I am currently sat up in bed feeding my grumpy, teething baby and thought I would type a hello to try and keep myself awake! Thank you for taking the time to share your world!

My family and I are always thinking one day is the next, or more! Yesterday, I cut my own and my Father's hair, I almost always do this on a Monday. Did it feel like it? No. There's probably a name for it, if only I could be bothered to look into it. And yes I am aware that yesterday was Tuesday, but I haven't gone to bed yet so it's still Tuesday proper for me!

I will definitely add flowers on my bedside table. I love the small yellow chrysanthemums too. They are so cute.

I forgot to add that I have done a good few of your blankets as well

I just love reading your news, and all the lovely photos! I have been reading your blog, for a few years now. And I missed it so much when you were on a break.
I remember crocheting the hat with the flowers on the side,it was so admired, and I made a couple for some friends.
I enjoyed reading About the different recipes you made with little B.
I have the exact same breakfast every week day, I also have strawberries, blueberries
And a few sultanas ,then a few slices of banana. But I put mine all into the pot when the porridge is cooked,as I like it warmed through, then plate it up and add some milk
Look forward to all your news,

Flowers by the bed, right, added to the list. I have some huge dahlias in the garden that I'm sure are full of miniature snails and full-sized earwigs. So perhaps not them... I have a 9.30am breakfast after morning chores and the dog walk and it's my favourite meal of the day. Possibly because of the peace and solitude... Your town is such a picturesque place, those canal reflections are beautiful. And an M&S! No such luxury here. We do have a rather mad grocery store that is rumoured to be the inspiration for Open All Hours though. I had spotted Annette's return, hurray! CJ xx

Ohhhh, I need to stop at the grocery to pick up flowers now!!

OMG I think my day just mirrored yours! I woke up thinking it was Wednesday too, raced downstairs as I’d forgotten to put the recycling out to be collected. Then it dawned on me, it was actually Tuesday! I then went upstairs and stripped the bed and put on a wash, and lunchtime I made my daughter cheese on toast as she wasn’t in college today... How weird is that? x

Hope you have a really good actual Wednesday x
