Oooooooooo it's a cold one here today! When we set out to school this morning there was a thick blanket of icy fog covering the landscape and my weather app was showing a -6° temperature. Minus SIX!! This is very cold for us Brits and not something we get to experience very often, even in the depths of our wintertime. Our hill view was completely invisible under the fog blanket for a while but it didn't last long and it was amazing to watch the white slowly lift and disappear. Once the fog was gone the temperature remained below zero for the whole day, but it's been so very lovely to see some blue sky.
One thing about freezing fog is that it leaves a remarkable dusting of delicate ice crystals over absolutely everything.....it's so very, very pretty! Humble spiders webs are completely transformed into delicate glimmering lace creations. The small patch of grass in our front garden was covered in frozen ice crystal beads. Even the dead plants growing along the footpath beside the canal were transformed into beautiful frosty things (sorry, couldn't think of an appropriate word for dead stuff).
I didn't need to walk along the canal but I did it anyways, taking the opportunity to crunch along the frozen narrow path which is usually very muddy at this time of year. This extra bit of walking added on maybe ten minutes to my journey home, and I enjoyed every single second of it. It was icy cold perfection.

Hiya Lucy, oh how I just love all of your colours in your blankets that you make. You have taught me a lot about crocheting and I thought I would let you know what I am currently working on. I am crocheting an Eastern tiger yellowtail butterfly with a sunflower. It's 225 stitches by 60 rows.

Beautiful photos as always Lucy. Your posts are never boring, brighten up my days and are inspiring. I had never made any crochet things before but with your fabulously detailed tutorials I have made 4 blankets and lots of other lovely things that I absolutely love 💕 ( as do the people that have received some of these!) so please carry on blogging and know that we appreciate all your hard work and effort and really look forward to hearing all about your tales. Hope you feel brighter and more energised soon love and big hugs 🤗 Becki xxxx

Nah, that's a heat wave for us in the New Jersey. DD in the toasty city of Minneapolis reported a -26F temp, which is approx -32C. Now that's cold!

What beautiful frozen beauty. I can't even imagine what it's like to be that cold. Right now I'm sweltering as it's hot and humid and I've just put the air conditioners on so I can crochet in the cool. xx Susan

Lovely pictures, down here in Devon it was freezy rain on the schoolrun so I didn’t hang about to look at stuff on the way back with the 3 year old and the 3 month old! Even in the freezy rain I’m enjoying being a mama that’s not currently working though. About to embark on your moorland blanket - I know, so retro, but the colours speak to me more than the sweet pea one (I love that one too don’t get me wrong). Have discovered it’s possible (albeit tricky) to crochet whole breastfeeding! Knittting, my first love, is not do-able - I’ve tried!

Thanks for sharing your photos. I am stuck indoors as I am not so well at the moment. Keeping busy making lapghans for the local hospice and catching up on lots of tv.

Gorgeous photos, especially those spiders' webs. I love walking on frozen mud as well, it's a treat after all the squishing. Not quite as cold here today, but it's snowing now, so everyone is living in hope of a snow day tomorrow. CJ xx

I did the same as you! A longer walk round the old airfield taking photos of frosty ivy, brambles and hogweed seed heads. The sun shining through the haze was really pretty. I came home freezing but all excited.

Ooh it’s lovely to see your icy pics as it’s been sooooo hot here in Australia. Really over our very hot Summer with 40+ temps for days on end. I shall return to see these pics when I get overwhelmed by heat!

Well that is cold, though we do get the odd minus 5 here where we live in the south east of Oz & our pond freezes over. 8deg here & that is cool for a summer morning, but our temperatures over the weekend are supposed to reach 38-40deg, so not quite as hot as the heatwave last week, but too hot for me. I love your photos, especially the cobwebs. So pretty. Thanks & take care.

What a perfect day for a winter walk.. I always adore it when you show us the canal and those wonderful canal boats. What I wouldn't give to spend a month in one of those. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

This is the weather where I am: "Extreme Cold Warning for Southern Ontario: A prolonged period of very cold wind chills continues. Bitterly cold arctic air combined with westerly winds will result in wind chill values near minus 30 today."
But it is bright and sunny and enjoyable to crunch through the snow (of which we have A LOT).
Warm greetings!

I’d be more worried about slipping into the canal😳 You must have sturdy, non slip, sensible footwear👍 not like me 😂
