Well, helloooooo there my lovelies!! I'm so sorry it's taken me a while to get myself sat here for a chat, I've been so lazy these past few weeks, haha!! My days have been drifting rather pleasantly (and rather idly) along, and April morphed into May in the blink of an eye. I'm not reading too much into the whys and wherefores of this laziness that has come over me, but I have certainly appreciated the gentleness of this time.
However, May (being my most favourite time of year) is most certainly bringing in a new wave of creative energy, and I am more than ready for it to unfold. I am missing my blanket making something terrible, oh I miss it so much! I am seriously craving a big new project to get stuck into, and new designs and ideas are tumbling about inside my Creative Mind trying to unleash themselves. It's fun and frustrating all at once, I've got soooooo many ideas doing somersaults up there!!
But more of all that another day - today I need to tell you about what is happening in Atticland on Saturday.................
.................yes, this coming Saturday 6th May is Yarn Shop Day here in the UK. If you've not heard about it before, let me tell you what I know - this is an annual event organised by Lets Knit magazine, to celebrate the wonderful bricks-and-mortar yarn shops up and down the country. Almost 200 shops will be taking part this year, and there is a handy map for you to locate where you nearest Yarn Shop Day party can be found {Yarn Shop Day Map}
This will be the first year that I'll be involved with this event, and I am rather excited about it as I get to yarn-party in my very own town!!!!
I'd like to introduce you to my very own Local Yarn Shop, which is called The Wooleys {no website to give you, but lots of info over on their Facebook page}. The shop has only been open on my local High Street for 7 months but it is already an absolute dreamboat of a place, particularly for those of us who have a soft spot for squishing Stylecraft yarns.....
.....see what I mean? What do your eyes make of that little lot ??!!
The Wooleys in Skipton carries every single colour of the Stylecraft Special range (Dk, Aran and Chunky) as well as other popular ranges (Batik and Classique Cotton for example). It is run by the nicest ladies, and I am often in and out of this lovely little shop, grabbing balls down off those shelves for myself as well as helping friends pick out colours for blanket projects. You just can't beat having a friendly shop where the owners positively encourage you to get down on your hands and knees so you can play with their balls on the carpet. Yes, I am that needy, hands-on type of customer, and I make no apologies for it.
I am really happy to be supporting Yarn Shop Day this year, I think it's a fabulous idea and hope that where ever you are in the country that you'll take a few hours out of your Saturday to go find your local place and help them celebrate the Yarn Love. And if you happen to be anywhere near my little patch of North Yorkshire, I'd like to invite you to come and join me at The Wooleys in Skipton........there will be those gorgeous yarny shelves to squidge......and there will be cake!!
So I'll be hanging out at the Wooleys in Skipton on Saturday (it's easy to find, right in the centre of Skipton town, see the map here for details) - from 10 am onwards. There will be a very generous 15% off all purchases in the shop on the day, and I'll be more than happy to help you select yarn colours and plan projects. Or we can just eat cake, have a chat and get giddy at all the possibilities held in those shelves! I'll have my blankets there for you to see and stroke, and am really looking forward to meeting some of you and indulging in all that colour and yarn. I think there will be some goodies bags and gifts as well as a charity raffle too, it's all good stuff!
I'd also like to let you know that my little Studio room will be open on Saturday for you to pop in and have a peek - it's only about 10-15 minutes walk away from The Wooleys. The lovely ladies at Coopers Cafe Bar would love to see you too (more cake!), there really is no better cup of coffee in town, and the lunches and home baking are to die for. I know I'm very lucky indeed to live in such a fabulous little town, and I'd love to share it with you if you fancy a wee jaunt to Atticland on Saturday......

I know it is now June, but I have been dipping in and out of your blog for the last couple of years - when I have some time! I crochet lots of amigurumi bears and rabbits with clothes. I get the bug around April/May every year. By June I have a hankering to give up the small stuff and go for a blanket, you are my 'go to' for inspiration. I would have loved to have meet you on yarn shop day as I adore that part of the world. I will definitely put a note in the diary for next year! I used to be a rep for a needlework company and loved travelling all over Yorkshire. Now I am based in the Cotswolds but will definitely make the effort to spend a weekend near Skipton soon. Thank you for your wonderful blog!

I would love to come over for Yarndale!!
I love your blog! My passions are yarn and books!

You do live in a lovely town. Visited it last year while staying close by for Yarndale. Visited a couple of Yarn shops. Crossing fingers Yarndale is on my list to do again next year. I plan our arrival in to the UK on the date of Yarndale. So you can guess I can't wait to see when you post it up. Sorry means that this years Yarndale would have been and gone for that to happen. Sad for everyone that went but goody for me. 😊 Next time I will visit your studio. Plus I want to see you again at Yarndale like I did last year. Till we meet again. 😀

Ahhhh! I so wish I could visit your little bit of heaven! The U.S. is so far away! I'm sure I would snuggle in and have a lovely stay and finally learn how to knit!!

Agggh I'm jealous! There are soooo many lush yarn shops in the UK you are so spoilt! As far as I know there are only a couple of dedicate yarn shops in Western Australia where I live and this state is many times larger than the UK!

If I ever make it across the pond, I would love to meet you and explore your little town. I hope you enjoy yarn day.

What a good opportunity to support your local yarn shop, as sadly there aren't too many around & it would be lovely to keep the ones we have left! They have such a lovely feel about them. Thank you for letting us know Lucy. Xx

What a wonderful event! If I could, I'd be there if only to visit Skipton again.
On another subject entirely, would you be willing to write a blog about your favorite camping tips? We've just purchased our first trailer/caravan and would love some pointers. What food you like to take along, activities that keep your children occupied (we hope to take our grandchildren out a few times, ages 8 and 4), or just anything you can think of to help out some first-timers.
I'm on row 3 of the hydrangea blanket! I'm new to crochet so this is very exciting for me.
Thanks for continuing to write your lovely blog!

Looks fabulous, Lucy! Wish I could be there, but am too far away (Canada). I am going to our annual Fibre Fest today, though, and will definitely be supporting our local fibre artists.

We'll be visiting Skipton on our brand, spanking new, canal boat this summer. So, although, I won't be able to get to Yarn Day tomorrow, I now know
where Woolleys can be found!

What a great shop and I'm glad you have it nearby. How nice of you to have a meet and greet there! I wish I could pop over from Oregon, USA to visit. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Such a cute little shop, and full of Stylecraft! Surely do wish I could be there, but it's a looong trip from Texas! Maybe someday. Hope the weekend is splendid!

Oh how I wish to find a shop like that and good prices as well.....and visit your lovely studio. I am so happy with your last blanket and colors. I am happily crocheting along and have done about 90 rows.....Thank you for sharing. I am looking ahead to get more yarn.......I am a quilter by trade, but crochet is my sit down enjoyment.........can't wait to do what you do next..... - if I can! I am self taught crocheter and with this blanket have learned how to change colors.....a first for me.......gloria g. in Florida

Oh, if I could only jump on a plane and fly over to visit you and that glorious shop. Skipton sounds like my kind of town. Have a wonderful yarn day.

You are a dear. That would be a long commute. I'm in Minnesota. But I visit you here at your blog all the time. :) You remain my yarn color goddess. Have a most pleasant week!

Drooling over all that yarn! Looks like a great shop & pity I can't be in lovely Skipton for the day, but way too far for a day out I thinks. Talking about playing with wool on the floor, makes me laugh, as I've been known to have fabric or wool or even magazines at a Newsagents on the floor with me sitting there too. I do get some strange looks. BTW, is there a good fabric/quilt shop in Skipton, though I suppose I could ask K's family that question? But none of them sew. Have a wonderful day & I'll miss meeting you. Enjoy & take care.
