Helloooo Sunny Sunday hookers!!!
Have you got your yarn ready? We are using the Sunny Yarn Pack for this CAL which contains 18 x 100g balls of Stylecraft Special DK in the following colours ::
Claret, Lipstick, Bright Pink, Magenta, Fondant, Shrimp, Spice, Gold, Citron, Lime, Meadow, Sage, Petrol, Aster, Turquoise, Wisteria, Violet, Plum.
The Sunny Log Cabin blanket will be made from 16 large squares arranged in a 4 x 4 format. All the squares have the sunny motif in the centre, with the surrounding strips arranged differently for each square. The squares measure approximately 35cm square. The finished blanket will measure approximately 150cm / 5ft square.
THE SUNNY CROCHET-ALONG
I'll be sharing my blanket making journey here on my blog every Sunday throughout November and December 2015 if you would like to follow my progress and crochet the Sunny Log Cabin blanket along with me.
Part 1 :: 1st November
In this first week, I'm sharing the pattern for the Sunny Granny Square which forms the centre of each log cabin square. This will also be an opportunity to assess your tension and choose the correct hook size.
Part 2 :: 8th November
In week two, I'll share the pattern for the Sunny Log Cabin Squares. There will be a full picture tutorial for this pattern, plus colour placement info for squares 1 and 2.
Parts 3 - 9 :: 14th November - 27th December
During these weeks, I'll give out the colour placement info for squares 3 -16 (two each week)
Part 10 :: 3rd January
This last week is all about joining the squares and crocheting the border.
The Sunny Granny Square Tutorial can be found in the left hand side bar of my blog. This forms part 1 of the CAL, you will need to make 16 of these centre squares in total, using Citron, Spice and Gold yarn. Please read the info at the end of the pattern re tension/size. It's important you get this right my lovelies, please do change your hooks size up or down if you need to in order to achieve the correct size.
If the Log Cabin design isn't for you, perhaps you might prefer some simple Sunny Stripes instead? As an extra part of the Crochet-A-Long, I'm also making a Granny Stripe blanket using the Sunny yarn pack. The finished blanket will measure approximately 120cm x 175cm (single bed size). Each week I'll be sharing the colour order for 18 stripes - this will take five weeks (88 stripes in total). In week six (Sunday 6th December) I'll share the pattern/colours for the border.
I have written a full tutorial for making the granny stripe blanket with lots of step by step pictures to help new crocheters. I've put the tutorial in the usual place in my left hand sidebar with all my other patterns - it's called Granny Stripe Blanket.
Here is the abbreviated version for those of you who don't need the multitude of pictures.....
Use a 4mm hook, Aster yarn and chain 200 to begin (this is a multiple of 3, plus an extra 2).
:: Starting Row :: (Aster yarn)
Beginning in 2nd ch from hook, work 1 dc in each stitch along [199 stitches].
*Please take this opportunity to check your size/tension - your starting row should measure approximately 120cm. If you crochet loosly you will need to switch to a smaller hook size (try 3.5mm or 3mm). If you crochet tightly, you will need to increase your hook size (try a 4.5mm or 5mm).
:: Row 1 :: (Aster yarn)
Chain 3 (counts as 1 tr), 1 tr in chain at base of chain-3.
*Miss 2 stitches, 3 tr in next stitch*
Repeat between ** until 3 sts remain. Miss 2 stitches, work 2 tr in last stitch. Chain 3 (counts as 1 tr), turn.
[You should have 2 tr at the start, 65 tr groups, then 2 tr at the end].
:: Row 2 :: (continue with Aster yarn)
3 tr into first space between treble groups of the previous row.
Work 3 tr into each space between treble groups to end of the row.
Insert hook into top of the chain-3 in previous row and work 1 tr. Fasten off.
[You should have 1 tr at the start, 66 tr groups, then 1 tr at the end].
:: Row 3 :: (Sage yarn)
Join the new colour in the first space between treble groups. Work 1 tr into same space.
Work 3 tr into each space between treble groups until 1 space remains. Work 2 tr's into the last space. Chain 3, turn.
:: Row 4 :: (continue with Sage yarn)
3 tr into first space between treble groups of the previous row.
Work 3 tr into each space between treble groups to end of the row.
Insert hook into top of the chain-3 in previous row and work 1 tr. Fasten off.
REPEAT ROWS 3 & 4, working two rows for each colour stripe.
The colours for the first 18 stripes are as follows : remember two rows for each stripe.
♥ 1. Aster (the chain, starting dc row, granny rows 1+2) ♥
♥ 2. Sage ♥ 3. Wisteria ♥ 4. Magenta ♥ 5. Lipstick ♥ 6. Plum

ps the Sunny Yarn Pack contains 18 x 100g balls of yarn and is enough to make ONE of the blankets for this CAL. You will need two yarn packs if you wish to make both blankets. x
I look forward to seeing all the lovely blankets come together.(I'm already working on a textured blanket at the moment but may do a mini version for a baby blanket in the log cabin design.)Happy hooking all! x
