About Me

  • Hello! Thank you so much for visiting me in the Attic, it's lovely to see you. My name is Lucy and I'm a happily married Mum with three children. We live in a cosy terraced house on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales in England which we are slowly renovating and making home. I have a passion for crochet and colour and love to share my creative journey. I hope you enjoy your peek into my colourful little world x

Lucy these CAL blankets are fabulous! I'd love to have a go and fingers crossed I might buy a pack of yarn from Wool Warehouse. They are a brilliant company and I've got a friend buying from them too.
You've put such a lot of work into your blog and it's as lovely as ever. I'm going to my 'Nit and Natter' group this afternoon and I'll show the ladies your blog. Well done it's brilliant.
Love from Carole from Rossendale, just over the border in Lancashire! xxx

Beautiful blankets Lucy, lovely. And that song - I'm humming it in my head, now, that song was my grandmas song, she always sang it to us, she has been gone over 30 years now but I still hear her singing it and remember her touch every time I think of this song.

Really didn't like that first log cabin square. Now there are 4 I can see the pattern as it will be and its going to be a winner. I'm still in love with my Coastal Colours blanket. I look at it every time I go into my bedroom, ha ha.To be honest I still prefer the striped blankets but it takes guts to try something different!

Must not buy more wool, must not buy more wool - oh go on then! Have to say big thank you for sharing your lovely patterns. I only taught myself to crochet last year and made a stripy throw from your original pack. I made it smaller to suit the bench in the garden and then used to leftovers (plus some other oddments) to make a multi-coloured granny square blanket which I joined together with navy and a navy edging. It looks so lovely on my bed and is incredibly warm. I am just finishing an Autumn version of your Springtime garland as a present for a friend who is very difficult to buy presents for. Thankyou again.

why only packages with 100% acrylic packages?
please consider 50% acrylic 50%wool!

They are both fabulous Lucy I love the granny strip and Ive never done the log cabin so it will be a learning experience for me. I have too many wips to join in with your CAL so Ive decided that it will be a new years project for me that way I can add the Sunny color pack to my Christmas wish list. :) xx

I love your quilt pattern, I wish I could crochet better. To be a little pedantic (I am a quilter), You have actually created a courthouse steps block, which is a variation of the traditional log cabin block shown in the quilt early on in your post. Just thought you might like to know :)

What size crochet hook is needed please?

Hi Lucy. My very own sunny yarn package is sitting on my desk, calling my name. It is hard to resist but I do have to finish my sewing class homework before I open it up. (I am making a duffle coat). The log cabin pattern is such a clever idea. I don't think my brain is up for it and I'll probably make a traditional granny with my pack, or maybe a v-stitch stripe. Thanks for putting the colours together, I am too indecisive myself to get something sorted. I am not keen on the actual yarn (I am all woolly) but it is great for a hardwearing family blanket. I am forever mending my Noro blankets.... Have a lovely week. Christina x

Wow - Log Cabin. I have made so many log cabin squares in patchwork, but in crochet - I would never have thought of that. Well done; the squares look great.

Hazel Henry

Very very clever. I wasn't sure at first but now I see them and their actual size, I think they look great. Can't wait to see your progress. X

Another amazing blanket design and colour combination. I have ordered my pack and now have to decide which one to make. I made the Cosy Blanket last year which now sits on the sofa and is loved by all members of the family including the cat.

Also from South Africa, I went out and bought my yarn and worked from your photo. Unfortunately with the current exchange rate, ordering from Wool Warehouse was just too pricey for me. Can't wait to get started. I love the colours, definitely make me happy.

I ordered my kit this morning!! I am in Australia, also going in to summer, but I will be crocheting along with colourful glee!!!

Barbara Somerset

Oh wow Lucy! This is so exciting. I am going to be following this CAL from sunny South Africa. We are going into our hottest months here while you are going into your coldest. The warm months make it difficult to crochet but will be following on regardless. Unfortunately our wool selection here is not as extensive in its colour range as yours but will make a plan with what is available. Thank you for your inspiration.

Teresa Kasner

Oh wow, that is going to be amazing! Love the colors and the old fashioned nod to quilts of a bygone era. I will be enjoying watching the progress. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

I love the colours and I'll be doing the stripes! My wool arrived last week to Western Australia. This will be my first crochet along. Looking forward to it Thanks Lucy.

I'm a wannabe quilter, and I am so in love with that log cabin "block"! Brilliant idea. The colors are stunning. Can't wait to get this crochet thing down so that I can join in! (Soon!) ;)

Absolutely gorgeous colors! I can't decide which pattern I like best, though I must say that the log cabin is just amazing. As always, you've done a beautiful job, Lucy.

Love the Sunny colour combinations! I'm busy rippling in orange, grey and black for my son - I have promised him it'll be done by Xmas so maybe I can tackle a "Sunny" something-or-other then :) I like your philosophy about sewing in the ends too, shall try to remember that one xx

Maggie Smith

I do like this and I am very tempted... How will the squares be joined? Are they going to be sewn together or joined by crocheting?

Thanks for sharing some of your creative process with us, Lucy. It is so interesting to realize the history behind some patterns and the intentional placement of color. Thanks for the links, too. I tried to launch out on my own making mitered cornered squares with the Lucy Pack I purchased a few years ago, adapting a colorful pattern I had saved for over twenty years. After making eight squares, the result was so wonky that it now is a little baby doll blanket in a basket on a shelf in my room :) Your log cabin pattern reminds me of the pattern I was trying to create. I am hoping I can follow your log cabin pattern, and am excited to try! Although I rarely comment, I truly love visiting you here and I admire your artistry and generosity. xxx

Harmony still on my hook but I am liking the log pattern and will be giving it a go!! Thanks for sharing xx lots of love Jky xx

The Sunny Log Cabin blanket loos amazing. I love the colourful trick it plays on your eyes. Very original work. Thank you for sharing!

I am in the middle of a Granny Stripe at the moment, a Christmas gift for a very dear friend. Love the two new blankets Lucy, you are an amazing lady.
