Parallel lives - sort of! On my birthday (same day as yours), I walked from Scarborough to Filey along the coastal path and had two nights alone sprog-free with my husband. Precious indeed.

I love how your writing (like your pictures)is peppered with delicious little phrases - and "that tumble of little cottages" is right up there!

Thanks for sharing your story. Really I felt the breezes and all those lovely views,so kind of you to share all those lovely things

Oh that is glorious. What a wonderful birthday weekend you had. We had an unforgettable October half term week staying at Ravenscar on the cliffs in the house built in the 18th century for the manager of the Alum works. Our little people were three and a half and just six years old and they walked those cliffs (well perhaps there was a little bit of shoulder carrying) and cycled the six miles along the old railway line along the coast. We did have a scary moment though on our first morning. We were on the beach below our holiday house beach combing and looking for jet and suddenly the tide came in very fast. The only way out was straight up those 600 foot cliffs, my husband carrying our three year old and me helping our six year old. We made it but it was very sweaty. We are always very respectful of the sea and tides so I don't know what we were thinking of that first morning. It's my birthday next week and I can definitely feel a short break by the sea beckoning. Thanks for sharing your weekend.

Happy birthday dear Lucy! Your photos are so nice - great that you had such a nice hideaway with J!!
What a pitty that I live so far apart - so a visit of Robin Hood Bay is very unlikely for me ;-)

Happy birthday! I really enjoyed all of your beautiful pictures. Thank you for letting us all come along with you!! xxx

What a perfect way to spend your birthday weekend and time to be just the two of you again for a while. I have to agree with you about Whitby, we were there a couple of months ago and as well as being busy (us tourists are such a pain!), the seagulls were the real reason to close that visit. RHB is so idyllic and I would love to visit the place, you have really sold it to me. Take care xx

Happy Birthday Lucy, Your weekend looked bliss.

What struck me when reading all about it, was that I could have written it, which was a really wierd sensation !!! You feel the same things as I do about the sea and the walks and the views.
Looking forward to the next 'away day - seaside' blog xx

My best wishes for your birthday, Lucy. Indeed, you had such a wonderful anniversary; you've loaded your batteries, as the saying goes. You've made me live through your eyes the beauty of these places (as always), and I thank you for that. The same feeling I have too, when I leave the seaside (our marvelous Black Sea). Many happy returns and many happy trips!!

Happy Birthday to you! This trip sounds so dreamy! We went to North Yorkshire coast a couple of years ago when I was pregnant with my middle child and I absolutely loved it, I wish my husband and I could go there sans the kids... alas, it'll have to wait a few years :(

Inge

Happy birthday Lucy!

How gorgeous!! Glad you had such a lovely birthday. I have just finished your harmony blanket (here in Australia) - such a joy to make- and I love that there are probably hundreds of them all over the world all looking the same. I have it draped over a lovely old pink velvet chair and each time I walk past it I think about it's lovely cousins in England or Germany or wherever!! Funny how they come to life like that!!
Looking forward to the next pattern and a delivery of a big bag of yarn!!!

You live in such a beautiful country. I know there are beautiful parts of the United States, but, nothing like I have seen in your photographs. Thank you for sharing and Happy Birthday...don't worry about your forties, your fifties are the best, truly, you begin to explore yourself and it's amazing.

Happy Birthday Lucy, so glad that you had a beautiful time. It was my birthday just over a week ago and we visited Cumbria, we are lucky to have my sister-in-law living in Cumbria and we stayed with her. We spent our time visiting Ullswater, Windermere, Ambleside, Appleby and Penrith, ate lots of wonderful food, Cheese Scones to die for, and had such a wonderful birthday until I dislocated my knee, still gives me more time for crochet!!!!

Angela-Southern USA

Sounds like the perfect getaway! So glad you could enjoy the sea on your birthday.x
