Today I enjoyed pottering about the house with the family, celebrating not only midsummer, but Father's Day too.
Today I put my apron on over my pyjamas, turned the radio on and baked a cake.
Today I decorated my cake with rice paper butterflies and made a promise to myself to make a Summer Solstice cake every year from now on.
Today I packed up a speedy picnic and we journeyed into the countryside to enjoy an impromptu al fresco lunch.
Today I loved the way the grasses looked so utterly summery.
Today I loved the babbling sound of the river as I ate my lunch.
Today I celebrated this beautiful midsummers day eating cake and fresh strawberries beside the river with my family and felt blessed beyond words by this life of ours.
"As the sun spirals its longest dance - cleanse us, As nature shows bounty and fertility - bless us. Let all things live with loving intent and to fulfil their truest destiny."
Wishing you all a blessed Summer/Winter Solstice, wherever you are on this gorgeous planet of ours. I hope your day has been filled with happiness.

Hi Lucy, I absolutely love your blog! I have printed out some of your tutorials and have been trying out your teeny tiny flowers and hearts. I have made little gift tags and attached the crochet flowers/hearts. Your cake looks amazing and your gorgeous photos of your surrounding area. Your talent inspires me everyday.I have just started a blog and I would love it if you could give me some tips/advice? Also take a look at the post about your blog and the little crochet tags. I would love to know what you think? www.theartfullplace.blogspot.com

I was completely depressed today, maybe it's the deep plum color I'm crocheting with today, and finally (duh) remembered to look up my favorite blog, Attic 24,for a spot of joy and I did find it. Thank you for the beautiful solstice blessing and the reminder it's okay to hang out in the jammies. Maybe tomorrow I'll bake a cake too. Gracias, Amiga.

Lovely lovely post; inspiring as always but can I be a little pedantic and remind people that Midsummers day is actually the 24th June and not the 21st which is the shortest day - I know because 24th is my birthday

I celebrated the Winter solstice and thought how great it is that the days will slowly get longer. My daughters made lunch for Father's Day and made him feel special. You have such lovely places to picnic. X

lovely post; a recognition that intermingled between life's disappointments and challenges there are myriad reasons to be thrilled to be on this earth at this time in this place. We may have personal reasons to wish to be elsewhere but we can rejoice in the miracles of this world. Thank you Lucy, for being a voice of kindness, clarity and responsibility of purpose.

We make Christmas cakes, Easter cakes, birthday cakes, I-need-to-eat-cake cakes - why not a Summer Solstice one too? That's a lovely blessing; it is a special thing to feel so connected to the Earth xx

Winter solstice here in Aus. Minus 0.2 degrees this morning. Everything is rather frozen, so loving your beautiful views by the babbling brook. By the way, I am onto my fourth pair of socks. It's all your fault. 😜
