We've enjoyed a very gentle week doing very little here in the Attic. It's been indulgent, lazy (oh so lazy), relaxing and fun. Good times.
The weather has been mixed, but aside from one or two forays to the supermarket to buy essential food supplies we've not left home, content to stay put within the cosy four walls of our home. If you wanted to find me during this past week, all you had to do was go to the Big Chair in the light of the bay window which is where I've mostly been sat. The chair and windowsill have become my studio for the week and I've absolutely loved the hours of crochet time that I've been granted.
My new blanket is well under way and I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying it. I'm making 5-round granny squares, with the 6th round being the join-as-you-go round. Unusually for me, I decided to make all the little middle squares in one go (there are 126 of them), well that's to say I've worked on these a bit each day over the course of this week. I love that I've done it this way, I love looking at them all nestled together waiting for their turn to become proper squares and part of the bigger picture.
The Little People have been a delight this week, slightly irritating at times (sooo many requests for food!), but pretty great really. Little Man (age 12) is very independent these days, coming and going with his mates, dividing his time between home, the park, the shops and various friends houses. Little Lady and Little B have played a lot together, which I've enjoyed watching from the quiet of my crochet corner.
Yesterday, we all sat at the table together and did some Easter colouring, cutting and sticking, it's been a while since we did this together and I enjoyed it.
We need new pens though, many of the colours are beginning to run out now after several years of heavy duty use. I've always bought Berol Colouring Pens for the Little Peeps, they are absolutely brilliant. We have a mixture of fine, broad and brush pens and like I say, they are very, very well used here.
Whilst we were in and out of our craft drawers searching for glue and various bits, we re-discovered this old tub of cutters and tools. I've had these for ten years or so now, they were originally bought when Little Man was a tot and we were in the midst of a play-doh obsession. These days we've gone back to the old fashioned medium of plasticine, oh the smell of plasticine is sooooo nostalgic don't you think? I was instantly transported back to my own childhood the minute a got a whiff of it. Love that stuff.
Little B made this Easter wreath from an activity book I picked up last week at the supermarket. He was so pleased with it, and visibly delighted when I hung it up and told him how much I loved it. He then asked if I could "photograph it and put it on your blog", made me smile :)
I love these sort of slow, relaxed weeks, they are very good for mind, body and soul. I love the ease of simple stay-home holiday days and the palpable contentment they bring.
I hope you're enjoying a wonderful Easter time full of things you love too. Gently does it remember......

Having the same sort of holiday here, love it. My blanket is finally getting underway, and it too is join as you go, at least end to end, the sides will have to be sewn together. It's tapestry crochet of heart blocks(inspired by Little Woollie's latest blanket) in shades of blue and green, 16 colors in all. Nothing like snuggled up in your favorite chair listening to the family noise and crocheting. Love L. B.'s wreath and his colored bunny, I see he loves lots of colors like Mom. Enjoy your Easter Lucy!

Love the new blanket! Is there going to be a yarn pack for this one eventually? Not that I need any more projects as I'm trying to finish off a ripple blanket and one from Wink's blog before the Lily Pond Cal starts and also start a Sophie! Do you get tempted by any other designers' CALs/designs? I also did the Simply Crochet poncho but I wondered particularly about blankets etc.

Happy Easter, Lucy! I hope you and your family have a lovely day. I agree, staying home is best. We've done the same over the past week for our spring break too. This week I only went out twice, both for groceries and a library trip on one of those outings too; needed lots of books to go along with my hooking and sewing. :)

A lovely relaxing week for you all. I love little B and his comments - and I LOVE his wreath (please pass on that message to him). Four more working days for me and then I retire and will have all the time in the world to knit/crochet every minute of every day (I may go for a run sometimes though) Happy Easter to you all Xx lots of love Joy Xx

Absolutely agree with the comment above that it's not necessary to go out and about with children all the time! they learn to amuse themselves so much more if you are not constantly giving them external stimulation, and just enough time, attention (and food!) to make them feel loved and secure. This way they develop proper attention spans rather than the 'flutter-minds' many children seem to have these days. Lucy, it seems to me like you have got it just right, and that you are treading the perfect middle ground down this precarious path we call child-raising. Loving the colour, Little B's wreath and the overall feeling of contentment in this post. It's an emotion so rarely found these days and one to be made the most of. Happy Easter, every blessing to you and yours, Claire x

Lovely blanket idea. I have just finished your coast ripple blanket for my son, now beginning a ripple blanket in bright 'girly' colours for my two year old niece. I love your blog Lucy!

Happy Easter to you and yours Lucy, can't wait to see how this new project turns out. Little B's wreath is fab and he should be very proud of it.

It's great to read this, Lucy. Too many parents feel they have to drag their children out to expensive 'attractions' in the holidays to keep them happy, with lots of stress, queues, and needless travelling. I'm sure lots of children would be just as happy chilling at home spending quality time with their parents and siblings.

Oh its a new design! Like it very much. I love lazy hone days too. Easter too crowded for driving anywhere.

Sounds like a lovely week Lucy. I have the same problem with endless requests for food. They don't get snacks all day when they're at school! I hope you have a wonderful Easter, and another good week off. CJ xx
