I've really, really enjoyed this week, we've all had such a relaxing time (discounting the two five year old Birthday parties I attended back to back with Little B on Saturday). It's felt good to spend simple family time at home lazing the days away and taking it easy. There have been many hours dedicated to personal pleasures, which for each of us here in the Attic means something different. Sometimes we were all in separate rooms engaged with our own pursuits, other times we would come together in the living room to watch tv, play games, read, crochet, lark about.
My own personal relaxation, as you can see from the pictures above, involved colourful hooky beside the fire (pretty much there with sampling my new granny square!), sniffing and admiring the hyacinths on the mantel, scoffing hot toasted fruit bread, drinking copious mugs of chocolate dusted coffee and dancing through the beautiful and inspiring page of Country Living magazine (oh, how I LoVe love love the Spring issues!)
Of course there have been some necessary chores too - food shopping, multiple loads of laundry, the seemingly endless process of keeping our seriously cluttered house under control, but nothing too taxing. We all trooped out into the drizzly rain on Thursday to enjoy a lovely pub lunch with J's parents (doesn't it feel a bit naughty to drink wine at lunch time on a week day?!). I do love pubs in Wintertime, especially if there happens to be a huge roaring log fire belting out some heat and feel-good comfort. This afternoon as an end-of-holiday treat, I offered to take the family to the local cinema to see the Disney film Big Hero 6. In the end it was only Little Lady who wanted to come out into the pouring rain with me, so off we went just the two of us. Our local cinema is just wonderful, very retro and very red! There was even a teenager who arrived during the intermission with a tray of ice creams hanging around his neck, so beautifully old fashioned. I enjoyed the film too, sweet and funny.
So back to routine tomorrow, J back to work, kiddos back to school, and me.....well I'm back to my studio, oh the bliss of that thought fills me to the brim with gratitude, it really does.
I've got something colourful to share with you tomorrow, can't wait for that!
See you then xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I love love love your website and your studio, and all that you do! I am an avid knitter, but learnt crochet only last August. Since then, have made so many wonderful items (a few by borrowing [thank you!] patterns from your site) and feel so fulfilled and happy to sit down with my stash of yarn and crochet away the hours.

Reading Country Living during a quiet period is one of my favourite ways to relax (and get inspired - all that beautiful styling and photography!)
I love the spring issues but also the autumn/winter ones too. For some reason I tend to give the summer ones a miss. I'm more of a wintry person I suppose!
Your fire looks lovely and inviting.

Can I ask you:
I'm getting back into hyacinths in jars of water on the mantel (now that I have a mantel of my own) & I can't for the life of me remember - now that they're going over, what do you do to make them ready for next year?
This year we discovered a shade of hyacinth that made this synaesthetic's heart sing! Delft blue - do you know it? Bet you'd like it.

What is the adorable little bell shaped crochet item in photo 5? I must make some!
Lucy, I LOVE your posts. Crochet is now in my life forever because of you! Also, it is very touching to know that colors in nature are as meaningful to others as they are to me. :)
Thanks so much -- Caitlin

I have spied, on your floor in front of the fire, a cushion (though I can't see the size/shape) JUST like one I have in my imagination but can't find. Yours is bright pink. I love that bulky squishy piping/edging. Can you remember where you got it from? Could you tell me?

The little cinema reminds me of the one I used to go with my parents as a kid. Good times! Oh, the smell of popcorn and the excitment beforehand! Unfortunatly very few small cinemas survived here in Germany :(
Looking forward to see you colourful something tomorrow!
Take care

Hi Lucy, When I commented on your post about the trip to the Yorkshire Coast the other day, I was sooooo carried away with the fact that I felt your narrative had lifted me into the pictures to be there with you, I forgot to say I was SOOOO glad to see you and yours were having some lovely quality time togeter, and I know that you REALLY were in need of that. Reading your post today you can tell how much this time has lifted your spirits and I really am happy about that as this time of the year is difficult. Can't wait for your colourful surprise. xxxx

Sounds like you had a quiet and blissful weekend. Mind was laid back and wonderful as well. Last night during one of my surf adventures on the web I came across the most wonderful site that had fabric that I KNOW you would flip for. Here are a couple of the links. I hope you take a moment to take a look at them. I don't know if you have heard of Micheal Miller and Fabric.com but tat is where they are. They are just fab and right up your alley. :)

Looks like you've been having a fabulous time. I must say now my kids are all grown up I miss the times we spent together just 'hanging out' and having fun. We all remember them fondly.

That cinema looks so cosy and glowy - almost as if it's candlelit! We used to have the cutest little old-fashioned cinema too - a man even came on stage and introduced the film and if it was anyone's birthday in the audience he gave them the book of the film! (if there was one). The council closed it down and now we just have a horrible souless multiplex which I boycott!
