I read about Vanessa's tragic death over a week ago, and blogged about it also. She was truly inspirational, and I hope her family and close friends have gleaned some comfort from the outpouring of affection and admiration that has been posted in various blogs since she died on the 17th December. Her funeral was yesterday, I paused for a moment and thought of her.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Lucy. Vanessa illustrated a lovely book called 'There's a House Inside my Mummy' which I treasure, I bought it for my son when I was pregnant and we still read it now (he's 5 now). Rest in peace Vanessa xx

je pense a toi Lucy et a ton amie Vanessa xxxx

Vanessa was just amazing - I read and loved her blog right from when she started it, and was sad for her when she stopped writing. Whenever I think of her, I have this happy image of her in her beautiful fair isle dress. RIP Vanessa.

I felt a kinship to Vanessa, too.. even though I was not lucky like you to know her personally. I bought a packet of her cards.. I was amazed at her talent. What a loss to all of us. If you find out more about what happened, I would like to know. Please email me. I am working on a diagonal crochet in her honor.. it was one of her last crochet projects. Hugs.. Teresa

I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Vanessa or her blog. I can't imagine a better or more fitting tribute to your friend than showing her lovely little paintings. How eloquently they speak for the woman who created them. Thank you for sharing her with us. Magistra13 at yahoo dot com

So deeply sorry for the loss of such a sweet friend. Sending you hugs and cocoa.

Dear Lucy, your post is a worthy tribute of an artist, gentle and nurturing, much like yourself. Look at Vanessa's accomplishments and know that they are magnified through yours and others that she touched. Your work touches even more folks around the world and that is part of Vanessa's legacy as well, in addition to the most lovely primroses I have ever seen! I am so glad that she nudged you from the sidelines. You, your work and the buns are lovely!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Vanessa, she will be sadly missed. There is such a wealth of information on her site that I hope they don't take it down. She was so good at everything she put her hand to and it was so generous of her to share that knowledge. My prayers are with her family and friends.

Very sad and such a tragic end to a young life. Although I've read a lot of your past posts I did not know Vanessa's work or her blog but followed your link and had a look earlier. She was obviously hugely talented and creative and an inspiration to you and to many others, such a sad loss. Love and hugs Kathryn xxx

It's not been an easy time for you lately, but I hope you take much comfort from the comfort and inspiration you bring to others, thanks to Vanessa for inspiring you to create your beautiful blog, always lifts my spirits and makes my day. Take care of yourself. X

Dear Lucy,
I read your Fb post and then your blog about your dear friend's passing. I don't know why, not ever meeting you or knowing about her until today, but I began to cry. I am so sorry for your loss. Hugs to you and prayers for a peace that passes understanding.

Lucy, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear friend Vanessa. I just visited her blog, and she led an incredible life with so much love and talent. I didn't know her or of her, but after spending quite a bit of time there, she was a lovely person I didn't have the pleasure of knowing, and I know she is dearly missed by all that knew her. My heart feels very heavy at this writing Lucy for you, those that loved Vanessa. My thoughts and prayers are with you and her family.

Lucy I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your special friend. I pray that in time your heart will heal. May she rest in peace.

Vanessa was a friend to many.

So sad that she took her own life, our thoughts should also go out to the train driver who no doubt will have been badly traumatised too, through no fault of his own.

Oh Lucy, that is so terribly sad. I was another reader very much influenced by Vanessa's style and words. What a great loss. Sending love over the seas to you. xxxxxxxx

Oh no - I didn't know. How very very sad. Such a lovely lady. Hugs from me too. Bx xxx

So sad, vanessa left many lovely comments on my own blog early on when I first started blogging but I am afraid I am very behind with reading others blogs. It is such a shock, reading the other comments here it seems it was fate you found the butterflies today. Xxx

And so she is flying away , but will remain in your heart.
A butterfly suites her , enjoy what she has given to you , not only the watercolour but your shared thoughts.
Remember she inspirated you and you inspirate me , just a woman in the Netherlands.

I'm so sad to hear this - I've vistited Vanessa's blog before and made one of her patterns. She always seemed so warm and so talented. What a loss. Hope you're doing OK Lucy x

I am so saddened and sorry to hear of the loss of the talented and inspirational Vanessa. I discovered her blog many years ago, and I was a very keen follower of her wonderful work. I did have the pleasure of spending a day with her doing a Crochet Workshop. She was such a kind and generous person. Your tribute to her is so heartfelt Lucy and I feel for your loss. Sleep tight Dear Vanessa.
