Our walk to school yesterday morning was just breathtaking as you can see, with the most incredible, beautiful golden light. I could hardly find the words to describe how it made me feel, I was quite choked thinking about our good fortune being able to witness this sight on an average Monday morning school run. We are so, so, so lucky to live where we do, walking this path every day. I tried hard to convey some of my emotion and gratitude to the Little People, but I have no idea whether they took it in or not. I am often telling them to look at the sky, the hills, the light, the birds, the leaves, etc etc, trying to impress upon them the importance of seeing the beauty in our everyday, but possibly they are too young to really get it. Maybe they do. Maybe they don't.
I get it though, I really do.

We get it too...thank you Lucy!

Just gorgeous...I always do the same with my kids, but I figure, if they hear it enough, they will get it...it might take them a while, but they'll get it. Sounds like they are extremely lucky to have such an appreciative and loving mom! :)

Lucy - I'd say that your Little People are getting it and will one day surprise you by showing you how very much they got it, with comments or writings of what they've absorbed when you least expect it. You'll see!

Keep telling them Lucy. They listen, you just don't know they listen. Heaven forbid they show you! I watched two boys for years. I was an outdoor person, their family are indoor people. I used to make them work in the Community Garden with me. This past summer, the older one, now a senior in High School, made benches for the Community Garden for his Eagle Scout project. The younger one, calls MY Dad to go golfing with him! They listen.

How beautiful! Your children will take it in. I remember shrugging off my parents' attempts at making me aware of the beauty of nature or art, and I now greatly appreciate both :)

Beautiful photos Lucy. I wish our school run would allow us to walk past such beautiful scenery (I am not even doing the school run, it is my older children who take the little ones). I often say to mine to watch the sky, the birds... and the usual reply is yeah yeah mum.... Have a lovely day. x

Lovely pictures Lucy and keep at it. I am trying to teach my grandchildren about nature - I gave them a bird table and feeder with instructions to keep it full!!

Yes, so lucky to catch this on a normal school run!
Although I don't feel the same way about the town I live in as you do, we also have a physically beautiful walk on our way to and from school. And very, very, very occasionally the sunlight is coming from the sky in such a way that it makes the top of the trees look like they are on fire! I mean really really on fire, bright orange, alight, burning. I want to shout, "Look everyone, look, isn't that amazing?". But most people don't seem to be looking at all ...

My daughter is 16 now and we have spent our lives pointing out types of birds, sunsets, views, just all the things that make a day wonderful. I knew that she had got it when we were on holiday in Sicily and she came running to us in triumph as she had seen a Hoopoe. She described it perfectly, I was thrilled and jealous at the same time!
Your little people will get it and take as much pleasure as you do, but probably won't express it until they are a bit older.

Beautiful. And though they may not be aware of this now, I am sure your children will carry these experiences with them throughout their lives.

We don't feel that bittersweet emotion in the presence of beauty until we get older and understand just how fleeting it is. I'm sure your children will inherit your capacity to appreciate it, and feel it just as fully as you when they grow up!

how beautiful. i always feel it is important to direct our children to see and notice things of beauty, even if they are very young, as now it may not seem to go in but i think as they grow older they will remember these moments.

Very beautiful Lucy. When I see nature doing a top act, I choke up too!

You will see, Lucy, that your sharing of your appreciation of your 'universe', including the sky, the trees, the flora and fauna with your Little People WILL pay off.
When my own were still little, I shared my appreciation and gratitude for all thee beautiful things the Lord has given us has paid off. Because now, as adults, they too appreciate and are grateful for the beauty in the world - and they are sharing with their own children. They have all, in their own way, thanked me for having given them such appreciation of all of the beauty around us!
Keep on sharing - it will show up as they become Bigger People!
Bless you and your family during this Beautiful Christmas season and throughout the New Year! YOU, Lucy, have made the lives of many of your readers more beautiful by your generous sharing - of your surroundings and certainly of your crochet work!
I thank you personally for having had a part in my appreciation of crochet and my ability to increase my own abilities to tackle more complex patterns! Your tutorials have so helped so many of us because you make it all look so simple!
Bless you always!

Oh, Lucy, beautiful photos! And they AREN'T too young! I always thought that with mine, I thought they weren't really getting it, in one ear and out the other, until they were teenagers and would come home from school saying things like "Mom, did you see the clouds today?", or "I'm going to go on a quick walk because the light is just so nice." And I would realize that all of my chatter about observing nature throughout the years had nestled itself in there somewhere, and they got it, and probably got it all along.

So beautiful! You are truly fortunate and blessed! You may not realize it for a while, but your children are taking in everything you tell them! They too are fortunate to have you as their mom!

Keep telling them to look. My girls are 11 and 13 and often call me to come see the sky.
