Ooooooooooooooo this is more than a weeny bit exciting, don't you think???!!!!
More than a year and a half has passed since I first created and shared this design.
So many of you have waited extremely patiently for me to arrive at pattern-sharing time, and there have been a few hitches and delays along the way. Your patience and understanding has been very, very much appreciated.
I've been working very, very hard this week taking lots of additional photographs, re-working some elements of the finished design, trying to remember long forgotten details (how did I make that sunshine?!).
And while I have grafted, I have thought a lot about the process of designing, creating, sharing and inspiring. Putting it all out there into the Big Wide World so that these little crochet birds become very much more than the written lines of a pattern.
They turn into a wonderful, joy-filled Global Connection, something that I hope will bring creative happiness to many hundreds of you all over the world.
I like to think about you making your very own Bower Bird, selecting colours, working those stitches, creating a piece of decorative crochet that will make you smile broadly.
I want you to have as much fun as I have! I want you to jump up and down with excitement when your first bird hatches!!
So......I have spent countless hours writing up a full-blown tutorial for this project. I warn you now that it is very, very long. No detail has been left unexplained. There are ninety nine pictures. And over five thousand words. I want you to feel like I am sat right next to you, chatting through the pattern to you, helping you every step of the way. I am with you in spirit, I am right there in your hooky hand. Enjoy.....I really hope you enjoy every single minute.
The pattern is HERE. Yaaayyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the original Bower Bird ta-dah post is HERE, in case you feel like you wish to revisit.

ps I thought you might like to see ALL the Bower Birds that have been made in my studio workshops this year. Thank you SO MUCH to all of my lovely workshop ladies for working my pattern so beautifully and encouraging me to share it here on my blog. Your flock of birdies will provide a lasting visual inspiration here on Attic24............
Oh, and one last thing.....I've not yet had time to create a printer friendly version of the pattern, but my lovely hubby tells me it's possible to make a PDF pattern file which printers approve of, he says he'll help me do it. I hope you can be patient a little longer for that technical jiggery pokery to happen. At the moment the tutorial is in no way printable I'm afraid, unless you wish to make a Bower Bird Book, it is waaaay too long. But I promise I will do the PDF thingy as soon as I can.

All the colours, variety and talents.
I always love the ideas and the crochet work on your blog.
It's bee a long time I read your blog and you are the reason why I wanted to crochet and I wanted to have my own blog, you are inspiring.
Miss.

Wonderful pattern. Have you ever tried Print Friendly? It's a little program you add to your blog and readers can print right from your site. They can decide which part of the text and which pictures they want to print and they can even save it to pdf format.

Just smiley loveliness :) I wonder what the collective noun for Bower birds is????

You were right Lucy it is very long, but absolutely wonderful. Have you thought about a book yet? I'd buy it! Just to soak up the wonderful designs and colours you choose. Magnificent photos again. I have come back to crochet and it's all down to you (well that's what I tell DH when he asks if I really need more yarn!! ;o)

Gorgeous! I wish I could crochet!

Hi Lucy, why don't you link your posts to a pdf writer like "Print Friendly"? You don't have to worry about making pdf's and if someone wants to save your pattern to make later they can use the pdf option embedded in your post? I use it for anything that I want to turn into a pdf in my online searches. MUCH better than saving word documents all over the place and wasting paper printing things out. Cheers for the bower bird pattern. I love your work :)

Oh Lucy, you are the best!! We all know how busy you have been, Family, Yarndale, Studio, and Magazine. Thank you, Thank you a million times over for taking the extra amount of time to keep up Attic 24 and provide this unique and beautiful pattern! You have provided us all with inspiration and a sense of "crochet community" where as some of us may not have; here; where we live. Your generosity is beyond compare! xoxo A degree in embroidery? Please explain? what does a person plan with it when they go into embroidery?

I started my bird....almost done. I have a tip for getting the washers on the safety eyes: after you have them positioned, give them a blast with a hair dryer on high for a few seconds. The washer slides down easier.

Thank you sooooooooooo very much Lucy! I have been longing for you to share this beeyootifull little bird since you first introduced him to us.
You have given so much detail and fabulous pictures too, I am really, really grateful. I struggle with lack of sensation in my hands due to Multiple Sclerosis and am trying to learn how to crochet. Holding on to the wool and make any necessary movements is tricky 😊 I really could do with you sitting beside me!!
Do you run any workshops for absolute BEGINNERS? I am the girlie who Messaged you on FB about Little B's Watermelon plant. We still have one for him!! We are caring for it along with our own ....
My husband would very happily bring me up with the plant, if you would like it. It will happily grow amongst your happy planted pots! Do let me know.
Big love and thank you so much for this wonderful gift, again,
Rachel x

Dear Lucy your bird pattern is out of this world. What lovely presents they would make. As I have commented before you should write your own book!
With that bower bird on the front cover it would be sure to fly off the shelves!
Thank you.xx
