We had such a lovely, simple, happy day yesterday, full of all the right things. The pace was perfect, I just loved it all from start to finish. For the first time in many years we got a lie in.....yippeeeee for the number 6 instead of the number 4 or 5 on the clock!!!
The Little People were pleased with all their gifts, which were pretty modest this year. Small toys, puzzles, books, balls, socks, gloves, pens, clothes, and a little hard cash for our rapidly maturing eleven year old. And sweets, yes lots of those. It tickled me that all three Little Peeps requested sweets, and how completely delighted they were when they received them.
The weather yesterday was unexpectedly mild and sunshiny, so on a complete spur of the moment we decided to go out for a walk in the morning. We've never done this before (we usually always stay put, loafing about in pyjamas), but it was sooooo good to be out in the fresh air amidst beautiful scenery. Little Lady and I even managed to keep our new pyjamas on and simply pulled coats and wellies on top, which felt completely, ridiculously naughty. The light was incredibly beautiful and I ate the most juicy clementine.
We ate a very late breakfast after our walk (the Little Peeps were full of sweets and chocolate anyway), and a simple roast chicken dinner at 3pm. I painted my toenails with a rather decadent gold/glitter-bling nail varnish, and drank prosecco topped with fresh raspberry and cranberry juice. We lit candles, pulled crackers and popped poppers and our house was warm and messy and felt cosy and festive. I watched television with my feet up on the sofa and alternate Little People climbing on top of me for continuous snuggles and cuddles.
Yes, it was a very, very lovely day.

Sounds like you had a totally delightful day Lucy- and calm and relaxed to boot which really came through in the photos. Merry Christmas (although a little belated).

Sounds wonderful, and just goes to show the really important things at Christmas are family, friends and love, commercial Christmas should be banned. Thank you for making me realise how blessed I am xx

Dear Lucy and Family,
I wish you all a very happy 2014!
Thank you Lucy for giving me the love of crochet back into my life. The little birds have flown the nest, they are grown women now and I am so happy to pick up the Crochet-things. I have done and made it all, knitting, embroidery, sewing clothes, name it. Finally I ended up with patchwork and quilting. That was it! But I love crochet nowadays too, again! Thank you Lucy! I am buying yarns again and I am now working on an Elmer the Elephant blanket. Like the one you have made. Not Stylecraft special DK but Catania cotton.
Also bought Elmer Himself and a book with Elmer stories, to tell to my grandson.

oh, how lovely!! It really looks cozy and festive. Kids are amazing and yours are probably in that honest and unspoilt phase when all they need to make them happy is sweets, not iPads and computers and DVDs... Wonderful. Have a lovely new year and lots of luck and happiness and pretty blog posts, because I love reading them :)

It look colorful and fun and happy and pretty and wonderful! We had a similar day with our 2 sons and their families here - 10 for a ham and scalloped potato dinner. I bought crackers for us all at World Market and we were popping and reading jokes all through dinner, while wearing our paper crowns. I have pix on my blog if you have time to visit.
