I've been crocheting the last little bits n bobs for my Autumn wreath today. A few more leaves, a couple more acorns, a toadstool, and some clumps of delightful little Michaelmas Daisies. Do you know these flowers? I just did a Google image search for them and my heart leapt when I saw the purple haze fill my screen. So pretty!
Michaelmas daisies are named after the Feast of St Michael which falls on 29 September, so are always associated with the start of autumn. I love them very much. They take me instantly back to my childhood, to the garden behind our small terraced house in London when I was 8 years old. We had a huge clump of them growing there next to the shed, and I used to love the colour of them even as a child. I've realised lately that so many of my childhood memories are colour-coded.
I enjoyed some lovely, peaceful hooky time today, it was a very nice way to spend Saturday morning. The Little People were happily entertained in front of the screen (a Minecraft Addiction has taken hold here), and I set up Hooky Camp at one end of the dining table. Good coffee, beautiful yarn, and purple daisy production.
I managed to work out a pretty simple way to make a daisy flower, I'm pleased with it! Each thin petal is simply made by chaining 3, then making two slip stitches into the chain. A wee bit fiddly at first, but once you've got a few daisies under your belt, it does get easier.
The little green bit that looks like rabbit ears is a little daisy leaflette. You know what I mean, right?
The idea is that you stitch it onto the back of the daisy flower, then when you turn the flower over, the leaves sit nicely in place and add a good bit of greenery to the whole ensemble....
....sweet!
I wrote up this little pattern for you, if you would like to make yourself some daisies.
You can find the pattern HERE.
Right.......on with my wreath, a glorious Autumnal Ta-dah is imminent!!

love them!

When I saw your post title I thought of the Michaelmas daisies that used the grow in my garden regularly at this time of year, until I managed to obliterate them. But what a lovely surprise to see delicate little crochet ones, I should have known.

my first memory of Michaelmas daisies are bushes of them growing over some old gravestones in an old derelict church that I played in when I was very little. Wherever I live, I always have them planted
in my garden. I used to embroider them on things, now I crochet garlands with them on. I love how the yellow centres make the petal colours just 'pop'.

Lucy, your daisies and their leaves are so charming. You've got the perfect colors. How kind you are to also let the rest of us know how to make some ourselves.
I laughed at your mentioning the fiddly bit. Know exactly what you mean!

Lucy these flowers are so beautiful, when the woolen thread passes into your hands undergoes a transformation that enchants me every time!
For me it was a great honor to receive a comment in the blog, what you saw was solicited from your labors, never expected to return to work with the hook but after knowing you have changed my mind; o)))
