I know this is maybe getting a bit repetitive, but I just can't get over how much I am enjoying the Autumn season this year. I keep talking to myself about it in my head as I walk to and fro across town, finding myself constantly surprised by the joy I am feeling. How beautiful it all is! How jolly and upbeat and colourful! These aren't words I would normally put together with November at all. In previous years, I am darned sure that November has had me in a bit of a low funk. Gloominess. Moaning about the lack of light. Not nearly enough daylight. Rain. Grey. Lots of shades of damp grey, and a weariness in my soggy step.
This year it is different. Yes, we've still had the grey, soggy stuff on occasion, and yes our hours of daylight are incredibly short. But oh the colour! The colours of this November have been absolutely heart-stoppingly glorious.
And the daylight, although dwindling now by 4pm, seems so beautiful throughout the day.
Everything seems to have a warm glow about it. Trees that I would normally walk straight past are stopping me in my tracks.
This is the top of my street, looking down the hill. My neighbour hard-pruned that cherry tree two years ago, and we were all quite shocked by how brutal it was at the time. It looked so bad that we felt sure the tree would surely never recover, but I have to say he must've known a thing or two about trees/pruning, cos that tree is thriving.
I really love Autumn cherry leaves, I think I wrote about it last year? Noooo wait a minute....two years ago????? Surely not???! My, how time flies. I love Autumn leaves in general, but cherry tree leaves are a particular favourite. I am constantly inspired by them and distracted by them at this time of year. I keep picking them up from the street and bringing them inside, strewing them on the dining table where I can love their perfection for a day or two before they crisp and shrivel.
My Autumn wreath is currently on the dining table next to the pile of drying-up cherry leaves. It is looking A-maaaaaa-zing I have to say. I have made everything now, and pinned it all in place.
Lots and lots and lots of hooky, and lots and lots and lots of pins. The wreath is well and truly smothered. I was just about to start stitching it all in place this afternoon, when I had this madly BriLliAnT idea. So I dashed out of the house, down the road to the shops and purchased a large sheet of blue-grey card. The light wasn't good enough this afternoon to do it, but tomorrow morning I'm going to do a rather ridiculous (but BriLliAnT) thing and unpin the whole lot.
Yeah.......I know. CrAzy. But listen....I have this idea to lay every single bit of crochet out on the piece of card to photograph it all together, it'll look soooooo great!!! It'll be a fantastic record of my wreath making process, a visual catalogue of it all. I am hugely excited about doing this, almost as excited about the photographing as I am about finishing my wreath and finally hanging it on the wall. Almost.
I can't wait to share it all with you. The sharing process is also rather ridiculously BriLliAnT.

Always look forward to your blog. So much inspiration!

Hmm not sure if my comment posted or got lost in the internet... anyway, you're right about the colour. I think it's the warm October helping the leaves along a bit. They seem to glow when the sun is out!
The unpinning does sound like a mad-cap idea, but I'm sure you know what you're doing??!

I am an autumn baby and have always loved this season. I love the warm, rich autumn colours and the fact that you have to wrap up when you venture out for walks. I am loving your little teaser pictures of the wreath. Can't wait to see it in all it's glory. 🍄

The trees on this side of the pond have been absolutely AMAZING this year too! I wonder why that is? I've never seen such brilliant colours and they seem to last forever. As always, your amazing photos and beautiful words have brought a smile to my face. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a lovely week.

These wee peeks of your autumn wreath look so magically colorful and gorgeous. I'm really looking forward to seeing the whole thing. And I'm very curious about the spread out of your products on blue-grey card.
Have you already seen my attempts of autumn crochet on my blog? They're looking quite different. But maybe you like them anyway. At least your posts were the inspiration for my work.

If this wreath is as amazing as your other projects, it will be spectacular. Can't wait to see it. Every time I read your blog I wish I knew how to crochet. Can this grandmother be taught?

Beautiful pictures! November does seem to have been dryer, sunnier and more colourful than in previous years. Am dying to see the wreath - the little snippets so far look lovely!

Your enthusiasm is catching Lucy, the Autumn colours are truly inspiring I have to say, your photo's are beautiful and that wreath certainly looks as if it's going to be, can't wait to see it finished. :)

Your photos are gorgeous! I do love the colors of Autumn--Our trees are most beautiful in late October to early November. It feels like summer here today, but was freezing at night 4 days ago! Storms are bringing a new cold front! Here in central Arkansas our coldest weather of Winter is late December through February and so dreary. I love summer sunshine, despite our high humidity and intense heat! I love October leaves and pumpkins, but always long for May warmth and sun.
Your wreath is going to be amazing--Can't wait to see it in all its autumnal glory!

Whoop hoo Lucy! Welcome to the delightful non-brownness of Autumn! I know you've always known this but it's thrilling to hear your joy. Autumn is always like this for me (I ignore the brown) and there's so much amazing natural splendour to enjoy.
Love the card idea -carn wait to see it xxx

What are those pins that you are using on the wreath please? Never seen them before.

You keep teasing us. I can't wait to see it all. Please hurry.

Your enthusiasm is contagious! I love it! Here on East Coast U.S., our autumn is a bit different this year. Bare naked trees next to trees FULL of color and others half empty but gorgeous russets and golds. A lovely year indeed.
Can't wait to see that finished wreath!!! Your work is lovely, in case nobody has told you lately...
