Let me introduce you to Hollie Hedgehog, the cutest little critter you ever did see.
I sat down to make her at 8pm last night, and by 9.15 she was snuggled in the palm of my hand looking impossibly cute.
Totally AdOrAbLe, from the tip of her snuggly little nose right the way to her cute little rear end.
I know she is only a baby, but I couldn't resist giving her a weeny little flower to wear.
Hollie is the baby of this hedgehog family, designed by Liz Ward. Utterly charmed, yes, I certainly am.
If you would like to make these cute hedgehogs, you can find the pattern inside Issue 11 of Simply Crochet magazine (available to back order here, with UK & International postage options)
The pattern was pretty straight forward, once I got the measure of it. You start at the nose, and work the whole of the body (the pale brown), adding safety toy eyes and stuffing as you go. The dark brown "spines" are worked in afterwards, on top of the pale brown body. I had a little bit of confusion over how exactly to work the rows/rounds of the spines, ie how exactly to leave the "tummy" part free from spines and whether I should be turning the work or not, but I kind of fudged it and got there in the end.
Poor Hollie, she suffered the indiginity of being turned upside down so I could show you her tummy and her bottom (!). I thought it might be helpful to give you an idea of how the spines are formed as it was this part of the pattern where I felt desperate for more pictures and some reassurance.
Sigh. I feel kind of weird admitting how ridiculously excited I have been over crocheting a baby hedgehog. But I know you know. I know you get it, or at least I hope you do.
I'm almost there with the Autumn wreath folks, and I can't wait to nestle Hollie into her leafy nest. One more day should do it. Almost Ta-dah time. Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
x
EDIT TO ADD:: Just discovered that the hedgehog pattern is also available as a downloadable PDF pattern on Etsy. Find it HERE.
She is so cute !

She's gorgeous Lucy! SO sweet!! Like you, I had a little trouble working out how the spines were supposed to be hooked - didn't realise to begin with why the instructions say you chain 2 at the end of each spine row before beginning the next but I think this is what makes it easier to "hop" to the next row! May have to add a flower to mine after seeing yours! Really looking forward to seeing your completed wreath. E xx

I made miniature felt teddies for the first time this week. I totally get the weirdness of being excited at how cute they are. It became particularly weird as I sewed the eyes- it was like they came to life! Your baby hedgehog is so full of cuteness that your excitement is totally justifiable-just sayin'...

Very, very sweet! I'd really like to have a go at crocheting some little animals, everything I've made so far has been flat or a hat so it'll be a bit of a challenge but I think this would be great to start off with
