If yesterday was the very best example of Autumn weather (dry, bright, warm, blue sky, sunshine), then today has definitely been the worst. It's been horrid. Gloomy, cold, wet, grey and dismal, the kind of Autumn weather that makes my heart ache and makes me long for summer again. I haven't liked it one bit. I have been working a little on my growing collection of brightly crocheted Autumn Things and reminding myself that this season does contain beauty, despite the nasty weather.
As I sit and crochet, I flick back and forth between these pages, drinking them in and absorbing the very essence of Good Autumn stuff. Warmth and colour and cosy feel-good. That's what I wish my wreath to be about, with none of the horrid bits. None whatsoever thank you very much.
These pages are such a tonic when the weather turns nasty. They are from last months Country Living (the October issue), and represent the very best kind of seasonal styling. I just love them so much, I love the combination of decorating ideas and shopping lists, combined with that slightly dreamy, unreal "photoshoot" kind of perfection. It just makes me feel good right down to my toes.
Sometimes Autumn magazines make me feel slightly melancholy as I mourn the end of the summer issues (which are my favourite-best ones), and I really don't like the overwhelming devotion to Brown. But even the browns this year seem pretty good to me, and I am warming to them in small doses. On my wreath, acorns and hedgehogs can be brown, I've decided. And everything else will be a riot of glorious, rich, fiery, fabulous colour.
I've been enjoying searching for creative Autumnal inspiration in cyberspace, there is sooooo much loveliness out there! I'd like to share some of my favourites with you, just to lift your spirits in appreciation of all that is Good about Autumn......

Hi Lucy! I don't write to you often, in fact, this is only my second time I think. :) However, OH how I adore your blog!! I've looked forward to viewing your entries for 2, 2 1/2 years now! I would know you, even if I saw you in a crowded place! :) Every blog post you write up and share makes me happy! Your sweet vacations, mini or long. Your parenting, friendship, Yarndale, and creative ways are so inspiring!!
I've been working on your crochet bag for a few months now. Ha ha It turned out much bigger than I anticipated. I hadn't crocheted in a few years, so it's been a bit harder to stay focused, round after round. Lol I chose colors of the rainbow, because I want it (the bag) to remind me of you! I love, love your color palette!! :)
Thank you for sharing all that you do! I share your little corner of the world with many, many people!! Keep doing what you're doing, Lucy! It looks marvelous on you! :)
Be blessed! :) Vanessa Grant from Eugene, Oregon, USA :)

I really love the different wreaths! I have always loved the colours of autumn, and the smoky smell you often get, but summer is my favourite season, so to me autumn means that summer is definitely over. It's a bit hard not to feel down when the weather turns and the evenings are dark. But this post has reminded me of the good things of autumn.

I just looked back over your monthly mosaics for the past autumn and winter months. I think we all have lots of good things to look forward to.

I'd love to make one of these I just don't know where it would go? Where do you put them?
Love the one with toadstools, it could double up for Christmas with some added knitted holly, now I'm thinking about how you could make the one wreath and "dress it" each season...

Such beautiful colours. Autumn is my favourite season and I so yearn for it when I see these gorgeous Autumn posts, as we are now in Spring in Australia - and heading into Summer, which is my least favourite season. Still, I guess I shouldn't wish my life away, and try to make the most of each season in its turn; but I will file these away in my mind's eye, for when Autumn makes its welcomed return

I absolutely love British magazines and subscribe to quite a few. The picture you show of the tablescape with the books, pottery, plaid blanket, etc. I have cut out and framed! It just speaks to me so much and I kept opening to that page to look at it. Decided to frame it and stand it on my sewing table where I can see it all through the autumn season.

British Country Living is my favorite magazine - I meant to ask you in your last post what mag you were reading. It always makes me feel so warm and cozy (we spell it with a "z" over here in the States", especially the Fall issues. Love that wreath with the little mushrooms and pinecones - I think my white front door needs one like that!

I always feel like I want to reach out and hold all the colour of autumn before it disappears, now we can look at autumn wreaths and make it last longer :-). I love the sunflowers, fiery leaves, mini toadstools, pompoms sooo beautiful. I would like to grow some small gourds next year and dot them all over our home, I bought some yesterday and the smallest one I could find is standing outside the door of my daughter's dollhouse looking v cute.
