This little jar of Spring has made me ridiculously happy today, I've been smiling at it adoringly and drinking in it's sweet beauty.
The pussy willow came from a local nursery who've been selling buckets of it this week, I got a whole bunch of big branches for £1.50. It is incredibly soft and reminds me of my Mum and my childhood.
The little mini narcissus came from the pots on my mantel. Some of the stems had grown tall and leggy and had begun to flop over, so I snipped them off to stop the pots toppling.
Aren't the flowers beautiful? I love that they're so little compared to normal daffodils, the petals only measure about an inch across. And the colours are wonderful too, so vibrant and happy.
Do you remember last week I had a go at crocheting a daffodil? It's quite a hard flower to get right and I ended up re-working it a number of times, making small changes each time until finally today (fifth attempt) I got it spot on.
When I design a pattern, I always try and make it as simple and user-friendly as possible, even if the end result looks quite complex. Cos I always have in my mind that I will be sharing the pattern, and my wish is that everyone will be able to give it a go no matter what hooky ability they possess.
Creating effective, beautiful designs that are simple to work is not always easy, it's quite a challenge actually. But ohmygoodness, I love doing it sosoosososooooo much! When an idea comes out of my mind and into reality, and I feel it right in the pit of my stomach that it's a success, well, that feeling is amAZing. Like a shot of pure joy. And it's why I continue to do what I do, to share my patterns freely and with love.
The idea for making these daffies came about as I'm beginning to make an Easter wreath. And everyone knows that Easter wreaths absolutely have to contain daffodils. And eggs, yes they must have eggs too. But I thought today that this little daffodil would also make a lovely Springtime brooch, and would add a little shot of handmade yellow loveliness to a garment. Plus I've been told that tomorrow is the 1st of March and is Saint David's Day, where it is the done thing to sport a daffodil on your lapel.
Oooooooooooo sweet little hooky daffies, I really am smitten by you!
I dug deep in my stash and unearthed a very, very pale yellow baby cashmerino which I bought by mistake ages ago (I ordered it on line and it was far too pale when it arrived). It's the perfect shade for a daffie though, and in real life I love those very pale yellow ones with bright yellow centres.
So this morning I had the luxury of a bright sunny day + some child free hours and I managed to perfect the pattern and photograph a tutorial. I'm about to go make a big mug of tea and get cracking uploading the pics and writing the pattern for you.....will post at the bottom here to let you know when it's ready. I'm right on it.............................
x
Whoop-whoop! THE PATTERN IS READY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! go HERE to find it. Happy hooking my friends, I hope to see lots of pretty yarny daffodils blooming very soon!!

I just had to let you know how I have loved making these! I have been having some major health problems and knitting and crocheting have been a stabilizing thing for me through this experience. I have been loved on by dear ladies in our church and to thank them for the meals they have brought to my family, I have made them each a daffodil pin and they love them! I wish I could send you a pic of them, but I don't know how to do this in the comment section. Just know that I am thankful for your lovely pattern. And NOW I can't wait to make the Japanese Quince flowers you have so beautifully patterned for us...the cluster of three will make a perfect pin! Many blessings to you and your family Lucy!

thank you Lucy. I LOOOVE these daffodils, have made one and worn it as brooch on 1st March and after.
Also wanted to say THANK you for your Easter holiday photos, my family and I are now going to Bridport for one week in April and it's all down to you!
I've had scares this month- lumps etc- and this will cheer me up I trust and with such a lovely yarn shop in town and the sea as well I hope to be crocheting on the beach and walking along the cliffs.im working full time now and don;t read you as much as I used to but am always telling everyone I know and especially all my crochet students about you! I have a crochet group at work who I teach- for free-at lunchtimes to help reduce stress and help them be happy as we are going through a difficult change at work.( NHS)
So thanks from all of us really, from the crazy lady who named her puppy Lucy - after you but no offence meant, n fact it was a compliment- the one who sent a stripy crochet puppy long time ago.ALL THE BEST AND THANK YOU SO MUCH for always cheering me up.

Hi Lucy
The daffodils look great! Was wondering how you're getting on with the bower bird tutorial-the daffodil one has inspired me to create an easter bower bird wreath with daffs, easter eggs etc!

Hi Lucy! I am a long time reader of your lovely blog, and was surprised to see that Lion Brand Yarn is using one of the images from this post in a Facebook post today. They are linking people to your pattern, of course, but I wanted to make sure you were aware of it, because they are also using your photo. I hope they are compensating you for your work :)

Well, I had a restless night sleep continually dreaming of a studio. For some odd reason it was just outside of London which is quite a far commute from my residence in Oregon, USA. Love your blog! I learned to crochet about a year and a half ago. It is a creative delight that I can do anywhere and in quick snatches of time. Since I have 5 small children, this is a must! Thank you for all your happy posts and tutorials!

Thank you for the gorgeous pattern, have just this minute finished my first daffodil! On to the leaves next.

I had to make one the moment I saw them. It came out beautifully despite my being a very young crocheter--you're directions are ever so clear and precise, a real treat for a beginner like me, thank you!!! I've also begun a ripple blanket using your pattern, which my teenage son has claimed as his when I finish-can't beat that as a compliment! My son also saw the daffodil I made and requested I make more- to which I will gladly comply. And my newly turned 5 yr old is demanding a stem (so she can put them in a vase on HER dresser)-any ideas on how to do that??
Thanks again!

This is fantastic. If only I had the skills. Having had a Welsh grandmother, I do like the excuse to celebrate another national holiday. This would be perfect and so sunny too! x

Hello, I've recently discovered your wonderful blog! As I've been oogling over your posts I've been desperately looking for a search feature to look up some of the posts I've read, etc....do you have a search box I've missed or will you be adding one?

Utterly gorgeous, Lucy, thanks for sharing your pattern. I am sitting here admiring a jug of daffs right now, they really are the most joyful flower.
