On Sunday night, still on a complete creative high after finishing my Wreath, I was suddenly hit BaNG with a funny idea to hook up a Christmas card. As with many of my ideas, the image appeared so crystal clear in my Creative Mind, that it was simply a case of taking it out of that messy place and bringing it to life. Time was short, but I knew I could do it.
On Monday night I started. I sat at my friends kitchen table (our knit n natter night) and made twelve tiny little granny squares, followed by an orange rectangle, followed by a colourful stripy triangle.
On Tuesday night I put on my pyjamas, snuggled up in bed and worked up lots and lots of blue rows.
On Wednesday afternoon I got out my button tin and had a little play.
My trusty Chief Assistant was on hand to help with some close up photographic work.
He captured the colours beautifully.
I stitched the rectangle and triangle into place.
Ditto the large yellow button.
A friend called round for a cuppa tea and a mince pie and I carried on with my work whilst chatting, drinking and munching (mmmmmmmm the mince pie was sooo good).
I stitched on buttons.
I deliberated hard over what sort of embroidery to add, and in the end decided on simple french knots in yellow.
It turned out rather beautifully.................
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I managed to photograph it in the last remaining light of a gloomy late afternoon, and will use the prints to make my Christmas cards for this year. Tonight actually.
Next year, when I am more organised and when it is not less than a week before Christmas (yeah, of course I will be totally, completely organsied waaaaaay in advance next year) I will make some more designs and get them professionally printed. I may even package some up and offer them for sale.
Living creatively is soooooooo much fun xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Oh, I absolutely love this idea! Wish I had come up with this one ;-)!
Wishing you a joyful Christmas and a beautiful new year.

Please help spread the word!

Gorgeous. What not try to get on to Clintons and see if they'd be interested in commissioning the photo. I love it

Fantastic idea and beautifully done!
Can anyone recommend a company for professionally printing such things?

I love it! It is like the best parts of Kirby's Epic Yarn (video game set in a knit and sewed world). Also, what you said about taking the idea "out of the Messy place" resonated with me. :)
I wonder if there is a way to make the cards textured like the original? It would be so neat if they were embossed so you could feel stitches on the paper...

OMGoodness!! What a great, original design. Have you tried scanning it? Since it is flat it can get you an even better image. What a great idea!!
Have a great Christmas and all the health and happiness for the next year!!

OMGA! Love it! I made some snowmen doorstops a couple of Christmas's ago from some white "poodle-like" fabric, knitted scarves fimo noses etc... and then photographed them to make my cards with. Life is good....
