I love making my tutorials, like really love it. I set up my work station (a tray with a piece of white paper, camera, yarn, hook, needles, scissors) and settle myself into the Big Chair in the light of the bay window. It's cosy, happy work. It makes me feel as if I can somehow reach out to all of you who love to crochet and invite you to sit and hook along with me in my living room. I feel like I'm sitting next to you chatting away, showing you the more complex bits that don't translate well into Ordinary Pattern blurb. The bits where I need to say "look, put your hook right here", or "hold the flower just like this and bend the petals forward a bit", or "don't forget to crochet over your ends!"
Sometimes my working conditions are a little chaotic due to the spontaneity of my Chief Assistant.
He likes to carry out unexpected Quality Control checks on my yarns. He also likes to assist with the photography. He is very big on health and safety and is obsessed with making sure my scissors are always safe. He also quite likes to help provide the essential cosy vibe by sitting right on top of me.
What can I say? It's fun. It's rewarding. And I love it.
The procedure of making a tutorial is in essence quite simple. The design has already been done, the pattern worked, re-worked, tweaked and re-tweaked. I know exactly what I am doing by this point. Yeah. Go me! Hook, stop, camera, hook, stop, camera! Easy peasy.
But making tutorials is a serious time eater. They take a surprisingly long time to create even for a simple thing like a flower. Hours and hours go into the making and the photographing, then the uploading of pics and the detailed writing (forty seven pictures! Two thousand and seventy two words!). I do it over a number of days, as and when my family commitments allow. The photography has to happen in the daytime due to needing good natural light, but most of the hard work is done for a few hours each night once my Little Peeps are tucked up in bed.
For me though, it's a little bit of magic when I manage to make it happen. I love to feel like I am sprinkling a little bit of colourful joy into the world.
It's my Happy Thing.
So, the tutorial for these Triple Layer Flowers is now finished and can be found HERE.
Thank you with all my heart for the heaps of enthusiasm and excitement you always share with me. Very, very much appreciated. Have fun with the pattern, let me know how you get on!

Edit to add :: In answer to many queries, yes, the Bower Bird tutorial is coming very soon...will be working on that over the weekend and into next week so that you'll have it in plenty of time to make some for Christmas gifts or decorations ♥

Nafa Label - I need to thank you for you're instructional exercise. I have been making spreads for 5 cm retractable measuring tapes for blessings and loved the thought of a bloom for frivolity. In the wake of making two blooms that I didn't care for, motivation hit me with a cocoa focus and two lines of yellow petals - a sunflower. I made a picot in the focal point of the second line of petals and included a column of dark French bunches to the inside's edge. Your leaf is connected to the force tag. Much obliged to you so much - well done!

I just wanted to say Thank You. I have just started your lovely flower tutorial and I have to say as a beginner in crochet Im so pleased I bobbed into your blog for a peek as I have never been able to understand the treble stitches from reading online or in books (I work better one to one where I can see it being done in front of my eyes)......terrible I know....but you have made it so easy to follow and I have now completed my first flower and I am sooooo happy!! This has opened a WHOLE world of possibilities crochet wise......I will have flowers everywhere. Love your blog. Keep up the good work love Nicky x

Ok, of course, my question is answered in your great tutorials. I see that you crochet
over your ends when you switch colors. Nice.

I'll have to send the link to your site to my sister, she'll love this!

I recently found your blog and it is a very happy place to go to. I marked the hat, but I find all your colorful work so wonderful as well. My question is how do you deal with all the many ends when switching colors? On another blog someone just mentioned the Russian Join. What method do you recommend?

Oh my Lucy, what a joy to read your blog and feast mine eyes on a rainbow of color:) I'm officially your newest fan and subscriber:)
I'm a bloody beginner at crochet, but I'd like to try the flowers and that hat in your other post. Love that "house" potholder in the picture, hope you have some instructions for it somewhere.
Presently I'm switching the focus of my blog from a Florida travel blog to a general lifestyle blog. Drop by anytime:) www.ramblingrosy.com
BTW, found you via Andrea's blog hop via the blogger who posted her version of your ripple afghan.
Rest assured I'll be pinning several of your beautiful projects. Great job on everything - love it all! You are an inspiration to me!:)

My dearest teacher, it's a tremendous work what you do here. Your kindness and generosity plus a lot of patience is very much appreciated, I am so sure, by all of us, your followers. I am soooo thankful to have found you here. I loved the hat and would very much learn to make one by myself. Here in Brazil we are in summer time and I would love to have one to wear when to the beachside made of cotton yarn. Can you help me?

Lucy, those flowers are so beautiful! I spend hours admiring your attic. Everythig is lovely! I must admit that I've tried to copy some stuff but ... I'm not that good... anyway, thanks for the ideas! Your work is really inspiring!

I want to thank you for your tutorial. I have been making covers for 5 cm retractable measuring tapes for gifts and liked the idea of a flower for embellishment. After making two flowers that I didn't like, inspiration hit me with a brown center and two rows of yellow petals -- a sunflower. I made a picot in the center of the second row of petals and added a row of black French knots to the edge of the center. Your leaf is attached to the pull tag. Thank you so much -- well done!
