Forty One Minutes.
I escaped out of the house alone this morning for a truly spectacular, glorious little solitary amble around my neighbourhood. It was bright and sunny but shockingly cold, with icy frost at ground level. I walked up through the cobbled back streets to the cherry trees at the top of the park. The morning sun was still low in the sky, the shadows were deliciously long and all was so heart achingly bright and beautiful.
It's a long weekend here in the UK as we celebrate the arrival of Spring. Here in my home town it's also the weekend when we celebrate the heritage of the local waterways. Our canal is chocka full of boats dressed up to the nines, with this years theme being "Great Britain". So a plethora of Union Jack flags and red-white-and-blue. It stirred my heart strings I have to say, made me glad for the umpteenth time to live in this sweet, friendly, vibrant old Yorkshire market town.
On my way homewards, I marvelled at the old stone bridge, the towns sweet floral endeavours, the incredible watery reflections, the amazing blue of the cold spring sky, the silvery green of newly unfurled tree leaves, the light on the distant moorlands. And I arrived at the back street of my very own house and marvelled at the old Victorian cobbles, at the crazy weird old chimney pot that sits above our bathroom, and my own back yard windmills. I love it all so much, with such a squeeze of my heart. I love that I can step out of my back door on a chilly May morning and enjoy forty one minutes of absolute gloriousness.
Lucky ol' me.

Totally not one to envy - having learned to find Joy
where I Am, and not wanting or feeling envy...... THAT said: I must say HOW Joyfully GOOD your little corner of the world is!!!!! Such a Blessing that I AM able to share those wonderful vignettes via your lovely and crisp photos!!
The boats and canal make my heart sing as does your wonderful way with words and your deep appreciation for where You are and what you have in your Life... SO NO I do not envy but rather share and pretend to live vicariously through You....
Your blog makes me so happy!!! And gladdens my heart on even the darkest and most dreary of days..... ( though I must admit I do so love the rain especially when just waking or falling asleep to its soft or even thunderous patter!

Lovely photo's, Lucy. I love canals - amazing when you think they were built over 200 years ago and they worked out all that engineering without the tools they have today! I work besides a canal which is undergoing restoration so no boats, but lots of reflections to take photo's of..... not that mine are a patch on yours. And that cherry blossom is gorgeous. Jude.x

Oh, you're making me miss Europe so much! We recently moved from Germany to Kansas, and I do so miss the Old World charm. My daily walks with the dog just aren't the same.

I love your town. Thank you so much for your pictures! It may sound strange, but I love British streets with houses looking so very much alike ... We don't have this in Germany, or at least, the houses are NOT worth looking at. ;-)
Have a lovely day. :)

Following you walking around your neibourhood, I really enjoyed the cherry blossom, the iced leaf, the cold bright blue sky in the morning, the streets asleep and empty, the colourful flags and boats. Thanks for the fresh air, I really enjoyed your pictures and post. See you soon!
