This morning I felt an overwhelming urge to be out of town and surrounded by countryside, I suddenly felt very cooped up and in need of some theraputic views. So I chivvied the family into action, packed a snack-bag and off we went. We didn't go far, only a ten minute drive away from Attic land, but up on top of these moors it feels very remote and far away.
We parked the car on the roadside and walked a short way along a stony track to find a suitable spot to stop and sit a while, to spread a blanket and enjoy morning coffee and a snack. It wasn't a very healthy snack. It consisted of oreo biscuits (for J and I), toffee poppets (for the Little People) and white chocolate buttons (for Litttle B). It was fanTAStic.
I don't think I need to wax lyrical about the colours of the heather or the expanse and beauty of the landscape, the above pictures speak for themsleves. It was just an hour out of our morning, but the feelings of happiness stayed with me all day.

ps did you spot the grouse in one of the above pictures?
How could I have missed the grouse!! Absolutely wonderful colours too - we have lots of this kind of terrain over here. Yes, sometimes one has to grab the moment and go!

I've been spending a bout in the hospital, for my dear husband has had colon surgery. Your gorgeous photos have been a joy of the outdoors for us. I had told him I love your art of crochet and now he's a photo fan. Thank you so much for sharing your world. :) USA fans!

The heathers are GLORious this year! I've just been waxing lyrical about them too :) Did you find them honey scented?
There definitely something therapeutic about a biscuit and a brew in the open air - very cathartic and no, I had to go back to look for the grouse - found it!

Ohhhh ! So beautiful. I live in the mountains, very beautiful mountains (Alps), but we have no heather. These colours are gorgeous.
Good day !

You can't beat the countryside in northern Britain - landscapes like that make my heart sing.... and make me quite homesick. Must book a holiday back home soon!

WOW, that huge carpet of heather is just so beautiful! I've always wanted to have myself a little holiday in your part of the world..... I think I'll need to make a bigger effort to get there after seeing that!! Thank you!
Oh and I was so bowled over with your views that I had to go back and find the grouse.
