About Me

  • Hello! Thank you so much for visiting me in the Attic, it's lovely to see you. My name is Lucy and I'm a happily married Mum with three children. We live in a cosy terraced house on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales in England which we are slowly renovating and making home. I have a passion for crochet and colour and love to share my creative journey. I hope you enjoy your peek into my colourful little world x

Ready to move to England where vacations seem to be frequent. Here in the states we people work too much.

I loved every word and every photo, Lucy. You are brilliant to share all this with us and your children will look back at it with great affection when they are older. Wendy is right when she says that some blogs are written by people who seem to live charmed lives where nothing goes wrong but we all know that things like forgetting the picnic (not you, of course!) do happen and I admire your honesty. All this and you've taught me to crochet as well!! Many thanks indeed.

It sounds absolutely wonderful. I'm curious about the playground. Is that a swingset of some sort in the foreground? I can't quite figure out how it would be used. Maybe it's a balancing thing and you step from one triangle to the next? I'm curious.

Au contraire, mon fraire! We never get dulled-eyed over these posts! LOVE EM, in fact. Hate the picnic didn't arrive with you.. maybe next time.. ;) Can't imagine how much the babes will enjoy devouring your work in a few years. Certainly wished you lived nearby.. We'd be sisters for sure. I'd STILL love a post address. I see so many little things here in the states that make me think of you. Would love to share them. Thanks for all the sharing you do with us. We can never have enough "family". XoX

So delightful to read of your lovely adventures - beautiful views, the soft grassy meadows and rural vistas, the charming flowerbeds - Happy tales of your children - and everywhere you show the colors you find in the landscapes as only you see them! Thank you for your generosity. I think you teach us how to see things sometimes! I treeemendously enjoy your weblog.

Thanks a lot for the vicarious holiday! Really enjoyed it.

Wow Lucy, I live in Allithwaite and walk past Templand Farm on our walks most evenings. Glad you enjoyed staying at Brian’s it's really peaceful at that end of the village. My children who are 24 & 22 both played in the little park you took your children to and at the Farm and any place else that took there fancy, it’s a really friendly & safe place to live.
I read your blog most weeks but haven’t left a comment till now – felt very compelled though this time, when I saw the pictures and great descriptions by you. Not many locals would go to touristy places in the summer as they are to packed, off the beaten track is much better. Great read.

Dear Lucy have really enjoyed reading this post. Reminded me of holidays
when our boys were small. We were staying at a spot in Shropshire one year
at the end of May and the boys loved it because there were lots of ducks running around. xx

As always, reading your blog makes me somehow feel homesick, even though I've never been to England at all. It is SO beautiful- and you are the perfect hostess to show us around! :)

Lovely vacation! I am with you on avoiding the places with too many people. I just came back to the USA from Ireland where a friend and I rented a car and just drove all over the countryside. After 10 minutes in Dublin, we spent the rest of our time in tiny villages and out of the way places! Love to be in the countryside with very few other people. Wish I was back on your side of the world! Enjoy

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful holiday memories with us Lucy. Looks like you had such a lovely time. Yet again you make me long for a caravan. Its definitely on our long term wish list. I never ever yawn over your posts. They are always a joy to read. Fiona x

Lucy, you should be the ambassador for our beautiful country, there can be no better place to live, and bring up your children, than in this beautiful island. I luv the UK. Your children are very privileged to have you as their Mum. Your simple pleasures in life will mean more to them, than any electical toy!!
Long may you blog, we just love it.

lovely! thank you for sharing.

A beautiful post, and thank you for sharing the rough and the smooth. Reading blogs can give one a sense that the lives therein are perfect (after all who wouldn't edit out the bad bits?) but after a while a little complex can set in. You have a talent for writing as well as crochet, reading your words always warms my heart! x

Beautiful post. I love caravan holidays too. For me, it's the best part of the year when I go away with my man and two children, just us, away in the country somewhere...we have wonderful memories of our caravan holidays. I am in the process of re-decorating ours inside too.

It's a wonderful post and brings back many happy memories of holidaying in the Lakes when we were kids (in the days before it became quite so touristy!!). I'm glad you had such a good time :)

Beautiful. Loved every bit of it and it wasn't too long at all.

Lovely Lucy. Super holiday and pics. We used to own a farm and have 5 van site and loved it when families came to stay. The children used to help feed the calves, play with dog and shut up the chickens. One year a family sent a present and pic of the children with the dog when they got home. The children thought the best part of the hols was playing with the dog. Doreen xx

Not too long at all! Wonderful!
Thank You for sharing.

When I looked at your picture of Grange-over-Sands I was expecting to see Miss Marple coming out into the street! Beautiful :)

It all looks so wonderful ~ it's been a long while since I had a holiday and I would love to do something like caravan around. Thanks for the little photo holiday!

I so enjoyed your post Lucy, you really do great things for UK tourism! We are lucky enough to have a holiday cottage in Sweden so rarely get to spend holiday time in the UK hence your jaunts are wonderful to experience through your super words and pictures.(Off to Bridport area camping soon though so I'll be raiding your archive for Lucy tips...)

penelope dubois

Enjoyed it immensely!

I loved reading this post and looking at your lovely photos, but the absolute top prize, best in show, overall winner just has to be your wee baby enjoying his dinner. That picture reminds me of my grown up daughter's porridge slinging days, and how quickly the time slips by. Thank you for sharing. x

i really enjoyed your post- there something quite lovely about the way you take photos and your writing- i loved the cafe shop that your other half thought was 0.T.T hehe...but thats just to look at, the pricey seemed abit much!. ive always wanted to visit beatrix potters house at the lakes, but quite a few friends have told me how packed it gets and it takes away the charm...i guess its a hot spot more so since the 'miss potter film'.
lots of lovely memories for you and the children- love the pretty scenic views and rolling hills x
