Hello my lovelies, thanks for dropping by. Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to talk Weather at you now. Cor the weather here is unbelievable at the moment, it is sooooo cold. F-f-f-f-f-freeezing, currently at -11 degrees as I type. Minus Eleven!!!! Not what we are used to here At All.
We had snowfall on Friday night, then yesterday was a spooky day of thick freezing fog. If I had taken a photo of my Attic view yesterday, it would have been just a murky white rectangle because you could not see across my street let alone across the town to the hills beyond. It was as if we were existing in an icy cold nothingness.
Not so today though :: today has been absolutely amazing. Stunning. The freezing fog of yesterday cleared away to reveal a bright and sunny day, one of those days when no matter how tempting it is to stay warm and cosy indoors you just feel compelled to be outside.
11am and we wrap up warm, gather gloves, hats, scarves, sledges, chocolate, a blanket and fresh coffee and off we head to our park.
Through the little woodland at the top, it looks so very, very pretty, like a magical winter wonderland. Oooooooooooooooooooooooh!!! So beautiful!!! I find I'm exclaiming a lot, I am so bowled over by the beauty of it all!!!!
The Little People are not hanging around to listen to me wax lyrical about the beauty of the icy landscape. Nope. They are off in an instant, swooshing down the hill on their sledges, shrieking as they go.
And as they disappear down the slope, I carry on talking to myself (Little B is soundly asleep in his pushchair, or else I would be talking to him). I marvel at the ice that covers everything.
Have you ever seen anything like this? Isn't it just fantastic??
Look! Ice crystals have grown on everything! Amazing isn't it?? Can you believe how beautiful it is??
By the way, where is everyone?? The park is unexpectedly deserted except for us and a few dog walkers. Doesn't everyone know what they are missing here? How can they stay away when there are magnificent ice crystals growing on absolutely everything???
The trees, oh just look at the trees!!!!!!!!!!! I can't get over it.
Oh.
oh-oh-oh-oh.
Fit to burst.
Too lovely for words.
Best unroll my blanket, sit myself down, pour out my coffee, eat chocolate and watch my lovely Little People do their thing.
Quieten myself down.
Be Still amongst the Beauty of Nature.
Not easy for the likes of me, but I give it my best.
Such a wonderful morning.

Now you know what it's like in Alaska. We had someone deliver fresh pears to our door yesterday and by the time we got home and brought them in, they were frozen solid!

It is unbelievable beautiful! We have about three feet of snow on the ground in Minneapolis, Minnesota and except for the shoveling, it is a fairyland! Thank God, we are not traveling! We will hole and and have a lovely little Christmas!
I love your blog!

DEAR LUCY,
I HAVE BEEN STUNNED AND INSPIRED BY YOUR COLORFULLY HOOKY GOODNESS . BUT YOUR ICY CHRYSTALLY PICTURES LEFT ME BREATHLESS! I DID HAVE TO LAUGH AT MYSELF,THO. IT SEEMS THAT I HAVE BECOME AN OLD WOMAN. THE THOUGHT OF DRESSING UP LITTLE PEOPLE AND GOING OUT TO PLAY WAS "CHILLING". BEING A LIFELONG CHICAGOAN I REMEMBER THE EFFORT TO GET MY 3 GIRLS SNOWSUITTED UP AND OUT ONLY TO HAVE THEM BACK IN TO USE THE POTTY, GET A DRINK ETC 10 MIN LATER. I APPLAUDE YOUR ENERGY.

How wonderful Lucy that you feel such joy in being out in the cold. Your children are so lucky that they have the chance to enjoy the snow. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family.

Thank you Lucy for explaining the beauty as well as you did. I too love how it looks after a frightful storm. We get them all the time here in Erie, Pa but always there is beauty the next day in the way the ice is or how the snow clings to the trees. Yes, even in the shoveling the next morning at 5:00 AM to go to work, so peaceful at that time of the morning. I've tried to get people to look at it for the beauty of it all but it seems it is a lost cause on most people. Thank you for being you!!

Another gorgeous post! Where I grew up we always got a lot of snow and it was a regular thing to look out of a window and find fog so thick you couldn't see a thing, it used to make me feel weird, as if the whole world had vanished!
I'd love to be outdoors enjoying the snow, but for the next few days I'm trapped in a freezing cold, damp and mouldy flat :( where the temperature inside and outside is usually about the same and there's limited heating and no double glazing, BRRRR! Can't wait to go home on Thursday!
Lovely to see you out there making the most of our fantastic weather!

Oh Lucy, I'm SO glad I'm not the only one who waxes lyrical about the beauty of ice crystals or snow covering the land lol! Unfortunately, despite the snow and cold, we have just a completely white sky here, so although I made myself go out briefly yesterday, there's really no motivation there. I'm hoping for some blue skies myself so that I can venture down to the park with the camera of course. Happy Christmas :)

so many people seem to have frozen pipes this winter, our hot water taps have given up on us (we don't have a hot water tank), but we still have running cold water.... My wise old dad tells me previously heated water freezes at a higher temperature than cold water does. Oh well, and about a foot of snow fell on Saturday, I went out playing in it with my teenage children and a friend and her 3 20 something daughters..... No snowman but a large snow mountain on part of their drive; the snow was too powdery to form into a head so we considered making a snow castle. We settled for 'spading' spade fulls at each other.... um, how grown up of us all!

And yet again you provide some much needed wintery coolness to counter the stifling humidity here... great pics! How could you stay inside with that landscape beckoning?

What an inspiration! It's not quite so bad down here in Hertfordshire, but we were sledging on the road at the weekend. Think you might have persuaded me to stop hibernating and get outside for a bit...

I want to thank you for your bauble tutorial. Had to try them immediately. I linked to it on my blog. I hope that is o.k.
