Hello my lovelies, so good to be back here in the Attic after an unexpectedly long break. Life has been running at full tilt for my little family this past fortnight :: it's been lovely but very full-on, and I've had absolutely no time whatsoever to spare for Blogland. And oh I do miss my bloggy time, I miss it very much.
We had a fabulous week away down in Dorset, it was so good to spend time by the sea and with my folks. I've got some lovely photographs to share with you, and as soon as I can find time to upload the pics I'll show them to you.
I've really enjoyed being Home this past week, this is a lovely house to return home to after being away from it for a while. Coming back to number 24 felt warm and welcoming, cosy and homely, familiar and friendly. In short, everything a Home should feel.
We've got some very dear friends visiting us this week :: they're not actually staying with us here in the Attic (they're in a lovely little caravan a few miles away in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales) but we've been seeing them most days and showing them a few of our favourite haunts. Lots of laughter and catching up, lots of walking, talking, eating, drinking, kid playing and outdoorsy stuff, it's been wonderful.
They came to see us at home on Monday (a first time visit to this house of ours) which involved a certain amount of crazy early morning Emergency Attention. You know what I mean, when one is expecting company and one suddenly stops a moment to look around and realises that the place really is in quite a mess and needs some Emergency Attention because one suddenly wants ones home to looks it's best.
The Emergency Attention consisted of some frantic scooping up of mess, a little straightening out of blankets, cushions and furniture and some busy whizzing around with vaccuum cleaner and feather duster. Even J helped out (he's very good at Scooping Mess and squirelling it away out of sight) and it didn't look too bad in the end.
You can see from these photos I took yesterday morning of our living
space that it's still pretty untidy and very full of Stuff, but this is just the way it is right now and I happen to quite like it this way. I like the Lived In Look. Think perhaps we need to have a bit of a de-cluttering session at some point, but hey, thats for another time, a time in the Future.
Right now I much prefer to concentrate on the Present moment, the Here-and-Now :: a time for spending with good friends, for being outdoors when the sun shines and for enjoying our Little People whilst they are still Little.
The de-cluttering can wait.
xxxx
edited to add :: tHankyOu all so much for your warm welcome home messages, you are a lovely lot! Some of you have asked about the star garland...I made it in December as an Advent Garland (there are 24 stars), but loved it so much I couldn't bring myself to take it down. I wrote a ta-dah post for it which includes a link to the pattern/tutorial for the granny stars, you can read about it here xxxxxx
Hello Lucy,
I am in awe of your amazing talent and skills! That's the coziest place I've seen, it reminds me of the old home of my grandparents where I used to spend my summer vacations as a kid. So warm and so homey, lovely space!

According to my experience books are the toughest stuff in home to manage and if you have children in your home then it become a challenge to manage book so i like the part where you have showed the books .

Hi Lucy,
We are having a Bloggers Fundraising Raffle in aid of Cancer Research and I am on the scrounge for prizes! All prizes we have so far have been handmade by us bloggers, and I wondering if you would like to donate a little crocheted something?
Do have a look at my blog and see what it's all about, and if you can help, please email me. Thanks so much.

I was just thinking how beautiful your home looked. How I miss my Victorian house, still trying to love my tiny 1970s bungalow - really miss all the high ceilings!

Hello!
I just found your ripple tutorial from back in April of 2009! Thank you so much for the plain and simple explanation to ripple crochet - FINALLY!!!! Thank you so much - I am now a new subscriber - can't wait to peruse through your blog - it looks great! I like to have a stitchery or a crochet/knitting project at night for when I'm hanging out with the family and not quilting. Thank you for inspiring to crochet again! I taught my grandmother to crochet over 30 years ago and she crafted well into her 80's. Wrapping up in her blankets is so comforting now - I want to leave heirlooms for my kids just as she has for me.
Great to have found you!

Hi Lucy,
we're still stranded here in Switzerland, may be back Wednesday, maybe not! Probably will come back by train, 13 hours, should get the ends darned in by the time we get back! Will call when we do. In the meantime, you won't have Tom's chatty company! Love Cx

Glad to have you back Lucy, and that you had a fab time in Dorset, I am very jealous that you are back home as we are stuck in Barcelona, unable to fly home to Hampshire ! I have visited the most amazing wool shop here and THANK GOODNESS I brought my hook with me , as I think I may have time to make a kingsize ripple blanket whilst I wait for the old ash cloud to shift !!!!!! Will flicker the photos when I arrive back in the UK !
