I absolutely l:o:v:e to look up at the sky as I walk about. It's not a sensible thing to do mind you, quite hazardous in fact, but oh it does make me really giddy and happy to do it, and therefore I do it often. I was walking home from school this morning and I walked much of the way with my face turned skywards towards the sun. I even walked some of the way with my eyes closed (I was pushing the pushchair remember, so had something to steady myself with). I love the colour you can see when you look towards the sun with your eyes closed, that sort of pinky-orange glowy colour, do you know what I mean? Makes me feel all warm and content to do that.
After I wrote my calendar post yesterday, it got me thinking about the weather over recent weeks. Its true that most of our February days were very, very grey and gloomy, but there was the odd day here and there that was quite exceptional. Just goes to show how vague the memory can be (well mine at any rate) as I'd forgotten about these sorts of cold, bright, sunfilled days that popped up here and there last month. That is until I looked through my photographs and saw these ones I took on the ninth of February.
I took these photos as I was walking to school in the late afternoon, just before three-pee-em. As that afternoon was beautifully bright and sunny, and as Little B was suddenly very tired and needed to sleep iMMedIaTelY, I decided to head out the house slightly earlier than usual and walk a longer route to school through our local park.
I remember I did the looking-skywards thing a lot during this walk :: the sky was soooooo blue and such a welcome relief from all the grey/white that we'd become accustomed to.
The shadows across the grass were beautifully long, and the hills in the distance seemed to glow in the late afternoon sun.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this extra ten minutes of school-run. Enjoyed the physical exertion of walking (a steepish hill was involved and I was walking quite fast at times), and I thought how long it seems since I walked anywhere just for the sheer pleasure of walking. You know, a leisurely, scenic walk that doesn't involve getting from A to B. Probably the last time I did this sort of walking was on Boxing Day when I was still very pregnant and we walked (well plodded/shuffled in my case) at Bolton Abbey in the snow.
I miss that sort of walking, and hope to make it happen again soon :: need to purchase a sling type baby carrier type thingymajig in order to take Little B with us. Yes I'm really looking forward to doing that sort of walking again.

Wow.. And i thought I am the only one to love that orangish pink coor of sunlight in closed eyes..

Ah........
that confirms to me what a pushchair is. Have seen that word elsewhere and it has always left a question in my mind...
it is a stroller!

I haven't been in to check on you in too long! :) (midterms and all...booo!!)
But I wanted you to know, when I saw that you mentioned getting a sling, that I just saw a news report on tv, maybe an hour ago, where they were talking about the risks of suffocation associated with them. So you might want to do some research on the one you choose to buy before you put your precious little one in to stroll!

I also would love to support your urge for walking again... I have a baby carrier sitting here without use any more. It is made by wilkinet (http://www.wilkinet.co.uk) and if you are interested, please send me an email. It is plain blue, so a little bit of "attic24-pimping" would be neccessary...

Hi Lucy!
Wonderful! As always. How I long for spring now when I see your photos. We have so much snow, that I still can't see any grass. And my snowdrops are nowhere to be seen :( But, the sky is so bright and blue, and thats a good thing:) Still, it's about minus 10 degrees (Celcius/Centigrades... what do you call it?) and thats NOT a good thing anymore. I really really want spring to come now! And seeing your beautiful photos, make me want it even more. I can't remember when we had such long winter last time. It's almost 3 months now, since I last saw the grass in my garden. I feel so sorry for all the wild animals, like the moose and roedeer, the hares and rabbits, and all the small birds, that can't find food now. We can't feed everyone:( but I do try...
My goodness, what a depressing comment I wrote. Please forgive me ;)
I hope you will have a WONDERFUL weekend, Lucy!!
Love and hugs from Anna xxx

Hi Lucy,
Can't believe how green it is where you live. Everything is brown here in New York even on sunny, blue sky days. We've had so much white a lot this winter. Everything looks so clean and bright for such a short period of time until it starts to melt. My greyhound (ex-racer) loves the snow. We have just a tiny patch left in our back yard and she loves to sleep there for a bit. I tried to remind her that she lived and raced in the Florida heat but apparently her warm, fleece coat makes up for everything. You have a beautiful town, so peaceful looking.

How rude of me, I'd meant to say how wonderful and full of light your blog is again. Walking is wonderful and in such lush surroundings you are truly lucky.
Off to make myself a vase cover - inspired by you of course!!

This is where I bought my slings from when my babies were young. Sadly she's shutting down the shop now so if you give her an email she may be able to find you something at a cheap rate?
