Do you know what, I hadn't actually realised till late on this morning that we have now moved into the month of February and that January-2009 has passed away in a flurry. So quick that month! So whizzy and speedy! And now onwards into Month Two we go, the month of Love and Hearts, ahhhhhhh!
The heart in the above picture was made by me quite a few years ago, it's repurposed out of a pair of stripy woolen mittens which I adored, but which sadly got too holey to wear any longer. The heart hangs on my kitchen door and the stripes and colours and very hand-made-ness of it cheers me each and every day.
Those of you who have been following my blog a while will know about my calendar ritual at the beginning of each month (if you need more blurb about this, you can read through all my Calendar posts here). It was fun turning the pages at lunch time when I finally realised that pages did indeed need to be turned.
This is the Bossy Calendar, with this months instruction :: go and do a Winter Walk! Take blankets, pack a picnic, go on! As it happens I do love Winter walking and winter picnicking and just as soon as a free weekend presents itself, I shall be obeying orders and jigging the family along to go for it. In fact, my blankets are still residing in the boot of the car so I am already there with that bit.
This is the Ideal Homes calendar, and oh how fabulous these photographs are. I just love this idea of bulbs and moss nestling in a pretty teacup. How completely and utterly charming. It has made my heart skip just looking at this image, and I do like it when I experience a good heart skip.
Talking of heart-skipping, I thought you might like to see how my little jam jar tete a tete's are doing....remember this post was only written six days ago :: haven't they grown? I know a couple of you were concerned about the lack of drainage holes present in the bottom of a glass jar, but remember bulbs like these can be grown quite happily with no soil and their roots in water, although it obviously wouldn't work for normal plants.
Like much of the UK, we have had (and are having) the flakey white stuff today. We've only had an inch or two fall so far here in North Yorkshire, but I think more is expected. I recently discovered I have valiant little snowdrops growing up through the vigorous ground cover in my front garden (I had no idea they were there until last week), and I have taken to chatting to them each morning on my return home after the school run. I love to see those sweet little white buds, usually surrounded by greenery but today surrounded by whitery. I am quite desperate for them to burst open and come into flower any time soon. Desperate! Yes, thats me, driven to Desperateness by a few snowdrops.
I am also quite desperate to get some work done out in the back yard :: I keep popping out there and looking at all my empty pots full of dead stuff and wishing it was time to sow seeds again. This little mosaic plaque caught my eye today :: it was made by artist Wendy Wilbraham and hangs on the outside wall. It looks quite cute with it's little topping of snow today I thought.
And finally before I go and make myself a cup of tea, here is the January view from the Attic today. Actually, no it's not is it? Not January I mean? No no no, silly me, it's February! Yes, this is the February view from the Attic window. Snowy and blustery, shades of grey-white. Bitterly wintery cold.
I've lots to share with you this week folks so I hope you'll be popping back through the next few days for a natter and a dollop of bright eye candy. I have my London trip to tell you all about (Oh that was one heckava fabulous day!), a to-die-for cookie recipe to share, some crochet stuff, magaziney bits and bobs, oh it's all been happening here you know!
See you tomorrow? You know where to find me......

Beautiful pictures. I just bought a "new" tea cup and I love the idea of putting a small plant in it. I enjoy your blog very much.

I wish I had that view from my window - *sigh*. The snow is still going down here in London. It's brilliant! Your bossy calendar does make me laugh. In March, will it order you to Spring clean or drink Guinness at your favourite pub? Looking forward to the cookie recipe and crochet!! C xxx

I too have the bossy calendar! I won't be having an outdoor picnic anytime soon because the snow is thick down here in the South East and I haven't seen snow like it for years!!! I am glad that your jam jar plants are doing well. I forgot that bulbs can be grown just in water so no drainage is necessary. I am looking forward to popping by during the week and hearing about your London tales.

I just recently happened on your blog. I love hearing about life in England and seeing your photos. I especially like your happy contented outlook. Your blankets are beautiful and have inspired me to start thinking about colors and yarn. How I would love to be able to take a train to London!
