Brrrrrrrrrrrrr it's so cold here today! I walked to school wearing just a waterproof this morning and about 3 minutes down the road I was seriously regretting my choice of outerwear. I'd had a quick look out the window before setting off and thought to myself, oh it looks like a lovely bright sunny day, but totally got the temperature-to-outerwear ratio wrong. It was not a light-waterproof day at all, but a thick-winter-warm-coat day. I have my old, shabby, faded, warm black winter coat on standby but as it is so shamefully shabby I feel reluctant to wear it. I am still dreaming of that luscious green Boden number and trying to find the exact right time to ask my beloved husband if I can have the money to purchase. You know, needing to find the exact sweet-spot moment to bring it up because it is a lot of money to pay for one garment.
And money is needed elsewhere right now in the Attic24 household. I'm talking elecricals, plumbing, double glazing :: we are in the process of getting quotes in from tradesmen for various bits of work that need to be done on our lovely house, and to be honest the quantities of dosh required to do fairly boring work is eyewatering. Thousands and thousands of pounds worth. Ah well, such is life eh.
I took these leafy photographs on Friday, it was a stunning day here in North Yorkshire on Friday, the perfect sort of Autumn day. Bright sky, warm sunshine and Autumn colour at it's best. I had been asked to help out at school with Little Lady's class who were going out and about on an "Autumn Walk", and I happily agreed. We walked from the school to the local park, the kiddiwinks walking in a cute little crocodile formation, a snaking line of little excited children, two-by-two holding hands. Awww it was so sweet!
They had such fun in the park! Such joy to be found in fallen leaves, in open green space, in mud!
Observing small children exploring nature and the world around them is so
infectious and joyful, I loved watching them discover the different
leaf shapes and colours, collecting great handfuls of leaves to take
back to the classroom. I loved seeing them run and jump and enjoy the
freedom of being outside in the fresh November air, all
rosy-cheeks and laughter (and quite a lot of mud too, it has to be said)
I didn't take my camera with me for the school outing, but as the park is only a five minute walk from my house, I went back on my own later that same morning. I went on a sudden whim, literally grabbing my camera and running out the house without a coat on, suddenly wanting to be outdoors and back amongst all that Autumnal nature.
It was obviously a lot quieter without 26 four-year olds running riot. Peaceful even.
I spent time looking up through the leaves still on the branches....
....and down at the fallen leaves carpeting the ground.
Taking it all in, loving the textures and colours and the very leafy Autumness of it all.
On the way back I walked down the old cobbled back street that runs behind our house and so I came home via the back instead of the front. It was lovely walking down the hill, looking along the row of tall old houses that makes up our street and seeing that just there in the middle of the row amongst all the other back yards, one yard still had summer flowers blooming. The geraniums and lobelia literally stopped me in my tracks and I experienced a bolt of pure happiness streak through me when I realised that those pretty flowers were in fact mine, that the colourful yard was mine.
Love coming home.
So much.
Your blog is just beautiful - not only the amazing photography, but the wonderful pictures you paint with your words too. Your pride and love for your home and family in this post moved me to tears and are truly inspirational.

It is really beautiful at the moment, but you're right, the best part of being out is coming home....if only I could find some time to just sit and crochet......sigh........

I say hang asking for permission, buy the coat! I will last a few years as is not too trendy and will suit your style and colouring. Just make sure you have made a very nice dinner indeed and that the house is tidy the day you spring it on him :-)
I was wearing beige and gold mary janes yesterday and walking through golden leaves rather like the ones in your pictures, I wish I had taken a photo of them against the leaves they looked great!

Well it was bound to happen! Your pattern for the hexagons was excellent. It was very easy to understand. So now I am rippling and hexing. Only another crocheter could possibly understand the need to have two projects on the go.I have one question regarding the amount of wool for the hexagons. Will 16 balls be enough do your think as I have to order the yarn? My husband is from Kent in England and he is always saying "Oh to be in England when Spring is in the air." I don't know. Your autumn pictures are pretty fantastic. I think I would love England in any season. It might be time to leave these Canadian winters behind.

When I´ve got my first Boden catalogue this autumn it was exactly this coat which charmed me so much. Unfortunately I´ve bought a new coat last winter (black - very elegant, but how boring!), so there is no good reason to have a new one this year, too, isn´t it? But best luck for you!
The weather here is the same, golden sunshine and surprisingly biting cold air. Love the picture of your last summer flowers, that pink geraniums are such a great contrast and memory against the yellow, orange, brown autumn colours.

Now blowy and cold I can so but you should have been here in Wales last night good god it was like someone emptied about a million golfball bits of hail onto the velux. Both the kids woke up screaming, andy and I did see the comedy in it though. We ha da cuppa at 1am read a book with the kids and all conked out in one bed. I woke up with Little L stroking my head, sweetheart. Finally got round to popping on my blog about how we survived converting our barn and it reminded me of sleeping in our caravan here in the wind and rain and waking up to a frozen toilet!!!

The cornflower blue sky, and the rich colours of the autumn leaves make me think the pictures could have been taken in New England. It is a different scenario here in the UK today. Out of my window the outlook is bleak and wet! At least I can visit your blog post for a bit of blue sky!

I'm glad you've had some good weather.... it is raining here as I type this. It is scary isn't it having quotes for work on the house? We need a lot of work after Christmas and I'm not looking forward to it!

Lovely pictures, the colours are beautiful. Wish we were having a lovely sunny day here in Devon, it's been raining all morning & the roads & paths are flooded. Think it's a DVD & cup of tea afternoon!! :)

Love all those Autumny pictures. Hope you manage to find the right time to ask for that coat! Thanks so much for your very sweet comment on my blog at the end of last week. It bought a very big smile to my face to read such kind words. Have a lovely day. Fiona
