Hello from the Attic :: I am up here supposedly trying to sew bloody name labels on bloody school uniform. With a Humungous Hangover (don't ask). I can't even seem to thread the needle let alone sew these itsy bitsy labels on (why oh why didn't I buy iron-on ones????). So instead I have been drinking tea and looking out the window watching the cloud shadows move across the hillside. And I've been pondering, thinking, contemplating life as it were. Been thinking about Blogland and my little patch of space in it, thinking about the way my life is going at the moment, thinking about the changing seasons.
I've been reading through Susan Hill's book, which is a wonderful celebration of the four English seasons, and trying to come to terms with the fact that Summer is almost over. During this past week, I've been forced to think about the imminent arrival of Autumn :: it seems you are all welcoming it in and looking forward to it in a way that I can't quite seem to do just yet. Its still Late Summer for me, although I can feel it fading fast.
In fact this whole year is speeding by so fast, I can hardly keep up with the days and weeks and months as they whizz by. I have been blogging my life for almost six months now, and the whole experience is everything I hoped it would be, with a hellava lot more besides. I enjoy it enormously, enjoy thinking about it all, photographing stuff, writing it all out. But it is time consuming, crikey, it really does eat away the hours, don't you find? J tells me (quite crossly) that I have become Obsessed, and I have to admit that he may well be right. And I know I'm not the only one :: if you haven't already done so, you must go and read Jane's post about this very thing, it rings oh-so-true with many of us I think, myself included.
Sometimes I wonder if it's normal to be quite so ecstatic when new comments appear in the In Box, you would have thought that after 100+ posts that I would be a bit more cool about the whole comments thing by now, but no not me. I still hugely enjoy the thrill of receiving your comments, I love the two-way dialog that begins to happen. Love that somehow my own life starts to push out into cyberspace and create little waves of influence. That has been such an unexpected thrill about blogging :: to hear about you trying out the recipes, learning to crochet, visiting the places I've talked about, or choosing to bring more colour into your lives. I have even had my first, delightful bloggy-friend meet up, which was absolutely wonderful. So it's all good, and I am thankful for the part blogging is playing in my life at the moment.
I've received some awards over recent weeks and am so sorry it always takes me an age to get around to acknowledging these things. I hope you don't think I am ungrateful :: I truly appreciate it, really I do. I just find it hard sometimes to fit it all in when there is always so much else to tell you about.
The Friendship award came to me from Notes from my Days.
Thank you Lesley.
And this Love your Blog award came to me from Petticoat Lane.
Thank you Jane.
And this Brilliante Weblog award came to me not once, not twice, but three times.
It came from Serendipity Loves New York, thanks Claire.
And Clairey too, thanks hun.
And also Dasiy Quilts, thank you Robyn.
So :: I am not going to pass them on (it causes me too big a headache), but I am truly thankful for your frequent visits up to the Attic, and your wonderful comments and awards. I love that you take time to stop by, and that you enjoy sharing my ordinary life with me.
Now I must get back to those pesky name labels, see you tomorrow for sea breezes, cute harbours and tales of my summer holiday.
xxxx
Hi Hon! Hope you're feeling better...
congrats to you on all your lovely awards :)

You must think of the time spent writing the blog itself as an investment. It will be an amazing record of this time of your life - much more powerful than a photo album.

yours was the first not portuguese blog I started to follow...and I find it brilliant.
once again: thanks for colouring my days!

I am obseesed with blogging too I'm afraid.
I am 50/50 about autunm, I love it in some ways, the coziness etc but it makes me sad to see the end of summer and know the next one is far away!

I love Susan Hill and am patiently waiting for her next Simon Serailler(sp?) to come out.
I hope things are better there soon.

Lucy you just gave me a fright like Catherine above i thought you were going to say that you were going to pack it in. What would we do without your stories, your photos and the wonderful crafts that you make. I too have to check your blog (and that of Jane's at Posy) first thing in the morning the day would not be the same.

Just got up a few moments ago and when I read this you scared the living beans out of me. I thought you were going to take a huge blog break. You were so missed over your holiday that I thought, oh no, no Attic24 in the mornings with my first cup of tea? What will I do without that beautiful colorful soul brightening up my new day??
Since I am new to the blogging world I am hearing the same word thrown around in my home...obsession!! But it is fun and I do love the comments too and I am using my imagination in ways I never have before. I think we all inspire each other to be a better person.
So after those bloody labels are sewn in sweet Lucy, do something really good for yourself.

Hi Lucy,
This putting labels into clothes for school is something we do not know...here everybody just wears what they want at school ! Typically dutch :). About the blogging, i know: sometimes i also feel a bit "obsessed" but also it gives me so much happiness...isn't that great as well ? I hope the little people are all well!
i had a lot of reading up to do because i didn't have our computer for the last week: it had to be repaired....then you really miss the blogging :)
Have a nice week,
Janneke.

Dear Lucy,
get yourself a laundrey pen. I got one years ago and its saved loads of time. Life's too short to sew in labels girl!

good luck with the labels, I resorted to the permament marker too, whilst the child was wearing the new item..........

Totally understand the obsessiveness of blogland I think we are all the same :-) it is fab being able to ask others for advice or be inspired by things they have done etc - I am off to Dorset in a couple of weeks so have enjoyed reading your post about going there and have asked for ideas on my blog as well and you couldn't do that and reach so many people in "real life" so I hold up my hand to being a blogaholic and proud :-D

My DD is 31 and asked if I still have any woven name labels.
Found one on a towel - so will unpick it and re-use it - not bad after 26 years' use!

Those labels are like sewing in a bit of love to keep them safe! but that loving feeling can fade after the first 8!

Hi Lucy
I think we're all probably a little obsessed - but isn't that part of the fun?
Well done on all your awards...and very belatedly, I nominated you for one last week too...

I have cut my blogging time down to Saturday morning from 7am to 8.30am and Monday morning after the boys are ready for school. I still read blogs on a daily basis but don't work on my own.
I don't think I'll ever tire of your photos from your attic window. What a magnificent view.
Don't worry too much about summer ending, you know you'll get another one next year ;). AND who can be dissapointed about a winter that holds CHRISTMAS!
Have a great week.

Gosh! You had me worried for a mo there. Thought you were giving up blogging, cos it takes up so much time. I find it difficult to fit it in, and I'm often posting that late on a night that I have to squint at the screen to see.

I still get a thrill every time someone comments on my blog, it's so nice to know there's this little band of people out there living their lives but taking the time to share them with us. But you're right it's so time-consuming.....I've had to step back a bit as work is pretty intense right now but I miss it, I still think of things I could post about but just can't do it all! Good job you're making us happy throughout the week.

Hi Lucy,
I understand what you mean about sewing on name tapes. I needed to hem 3 pairs of slacks for my son to wear to work - I ended up using iron on hem tape instead. Why could I spend hours sewing tiny pieces together for a quilt but hate to do hems? Even though blogging takes up a lot of your time, you could think of it as a journal of your children's early years. I wish I had kept one for my kids. Plus they are such fun for us to read!
