Its been a funny old day today. As you may know, my Little Lady will start school in September and it was her last day at nursery today. I blubbed. Yes I did, I was really overcome with emotion and it totally caught me by surprise as I am not usually one to cry. I then decided to call in to M&S on my way home and buy some bits of school uniform and nearly started crying again looking at the dinky little Age 4 grey pinafores. People must have thought me a real headcase, standing stroking the school uniforms sniffing madly and looking all snotty and weepy.
Anyways...enough of all that, how do you like the little posy on my table today? I took this pic late yesterday afternoon when the light was shining through the back window and across the dining table, lighting up the flowers. I so love this simple little collection of flowers and herbs from the garden :: a few more sweet peas, some lavender and the most gorgeous deep, dark cornflowers. Lovely C gave me these plants as seedlings a few months ago, she told me they were cornflowers grown from Sarah Raven seeds but she couldn't remember the colour. Aren't they just amazing? In fact I adore Sarah Ravens approach to gardening, she's a colour junkie like me. I order her catalogue and dribble and drool all over it.
And talking of flowers, I crocheted these ones last night as a final flourish for my bag.
The handles are there too look, and now it's been assembled and finished. I am so very thrilled with it! I'll reveal it for you on Monday in all it's stripey colourful glory.
And talking of Monday, I'll also be picking out the winner of the BCG, so if you have'nt already added your name to the hat, you are cordially invited to go forthwith to this post and add your comment.
See you then xxxxxx

My youngest is now 35 years old, and I can remember her first day of school like it was yesterday. I too cried. It's nice that you surround yourself with pretty things. Maybe you can crochet her a little something to celebrate her first day of school, so it won't be so hard on the both of you.

Hi isn't awful when the kids move from stage to stage in their lives, my eldest(18)has now just finished secondary school, and my youngest (12) has just finished primary school and is going onto secondary school - that one is a little hard to take, no more of my kids in primary school - so sad!!! My middle child (14) well its her second year in secondary and she knows it all - don't they always at that age!!! I just love you crotchet bag, the colours are just gorgeous, well done you - I think i WANT it!!

You're not the only non-crier to find themselves blubbing at pre-school this week. And I haven't been brave enough to do uniform shopping yet.

My daughter has just left school after her GCSEs, going to college in September, so I have similar feelings! School life is over in this family and she's a young adult now, I look back on her childhood with nostalgia but I have to say I'm enjoying the feeling of becoming "me" again and not just "Mum"!
Lovely flowers, especially the crochet variety.

Your crochet flowers are just lovely - I especially love the leaves. That beautiful afternoon light looks great - wish we were having a bit more sun over here!

Hi
I was referred to you by misssewnsew. She thought we might be similar. I have just read back all of your blog until Easter. It has been very pleasant! I love colour and am a very visual person too. I also am not looking forward to my youngest son starting school in September. In fact I CANNOT STAND THE IDEA!!! He is staying at home on Friday's with me - could not cope giving him up for the whole week yet. I have two girls as well - age 5 & 8. I really miss them too. They have been on school holidays for a week now and I have (for a change) barely had to tell them off (touch wood - as there is another 7 weeks to go yet!!!). In September I am going to try to set up a
knit and natter group I think. I know Vanessa from
do you mind if I knit. We have been away on crafting weekends together - it is how we met. She is lovely.
Well hope you have a great weekend. Like you I have a great view from my house but a small garden - which sometimes I find frustrating but I think in the end is a benefit as it makes us go out and about a lot more - we live right near the beach. We long to potter in little streams like you have featured on your blog too though - cant find any down here - pants!
Well I rambled on a bit more sorry! Have a great weekend - get the Pimms out!

Hi Lucy - So much respect to you for learning to crochet - I am an accomplished knitter but would love to learn to crochet - I have just ordered the book you mentioned from Amazon, to see if I can finally crack it! I am also from North Yorkshire (Filey) and it is such a shame that it also happens to be one of the largest counties, since I would love to come along to your fortnightly knit 'n' chat group, but I suspect you are a long way from me? - Anyway, I really enjoy reading your posts - Natalie x

Don't feel bad, I have a post on my blog today about a grown man crying while using a public pay phone? He was talking to his mother in Afghanistan......interesting to say the least!!

It was my daughter's last day at pre-school today too. I gelt fine until she went to give all her teachers a hug and then it reaaly hit me that 8 years of preschool life is well and truly over, how fast it flew by! I keep looking at her and can't quite believe in 6 1/2 weeks we'll be parted, how I'll miss her!
Love the cornflowers, and can't wait to see the bag!
Have a delicious weekend
