Welcome to the Littlest Room in my home. Not often you get to peek in peoples bathrooms is it, I don't think they are especially photogenic rooms but hey-ho, I'm offering you a little glimpse nevertheless.
Up until this week this room was looking a little bare and forlorn, with no decorations or personality to speak of. And I like my rooms to have plenty of these things. We moved house over four months ago and I haven't yet hung many pictures or put my treasures about the place. And I own a lot of pictures and all manner of bits and bobs, nic-naks, treasures and ornaments. Stuff coming out my ears. All sorts of things that I have collected over the years which are currently stored in four (yes four) large fruit boxes in the attic24 eaves. But for some reason I have not felt inclined to unpack these bits yet. We still have a long way to go with our house, work is beginning slowly but because the decor is a bit ropey and I don't have many shelves or pieces of furniture on which to display things yet, I haven't felt inspired to embellish the place much, or photograph it much either because a lot of it bugs me.
Take the bathroom for example...I do like the colour of the walls, aqua/turquoise/eau de nil/duck egg is my absolute favourite colour palette of all. I think it comes back to the sea thing, I just love watery colours. But see the wooden paneling on the walls, the green stuff? Its rather hideous, kind of reminds me of seaweed or slime. But as we intend to remodel the whole bathroom and take the paneling out, its doesn't seem worth while painting it right now. So I am living with the seaweed/slime (which is stubbornly mouldy round the bath just for good measure), but it really does bug me big time, even seeing it in these photographs. But what the heck, I decided this week that this poor little neglected room which we use every day really does need some cheering up. So I had a rummage in the attic eaves to find some jolly seaside accessories.
First out of storage were these housey harbour hooks which I bought a year or two ago on ebay. And below are some of my other seaside bits that I have gathered over the years. They are actually spread out around the bathroom but I brought them altogether to photograph.
The beachut and fish hanger, and the little driftwood boat came from Country Heart. I love this website, they have such beautiful handmade decorations with new ones being added regularly, I can always find something lovely.
The wooden houses with the rocking boat and fish was made by Rod and Vicky of Mundos Bizarro. When I was in business exhibiting and selling my textile work (about 6-8 years ago now) I met a lot of very lovely, talented folk at the various craft fairs I used to attend. I was forever spending my earnings, but we used to do swaps too, which was a great way for me to collect handmade craft without spending any money :: woohoo now there's a winning situation if ever I came across one! I swapped one of my embroidered cushions for this lovely seasidey piece and it makes me smile a lot.
And lastly there on the seaweedy shelf is a lovely handmade tile by artist Wendy Wilbraham who I met at the Country Living show last year.
Can you tell that my mind is still on holiday down by the sea??
It takes me a while to come back after I've been away, I'm here in person but my heart is still at the seaside. And now so is my bathroom.
Ahhh.. now I can see that you like this wooden type of stuff, like the one you bought this year too. It's indeed lovely looking decoration :)

OO! I love seeing other peoples nooks and crannies! (If you know what I mean) And I must say I'm rather fond of wood panelling... maybe not slime colour though. Maybe you could colour wash it so it looks more seasidey! More pictures please! love Fi x

I really like the 'Housey Harbour Hooks'. I have lived in my house for 10 years now and still not put up pictures or put 'my mark' on the place!

I love seeing corners of other people's homes, even the bathroom!
And don't feel bad- we've been in our home for almost 8 years now and we still have some things in boxes that we haven't unpacked yet!

Hello from France!
Your bathroom seems very cosy and I particularly love your harbour hook. It remains me our arrival by boat in Cork. I'm thinking about a nice quilt just like this cute hook... at the moment, I've just finished a mini quilt for our bathroom with some fish because the walls are also in white, blue and we think about the sea which is so far away from us now...You can see it on my own recent blog :

Last summer, we spend two weeks in South England and we love it!the weather was very fine, yes!and we rented wonderful cottages near the Cotsword after one week in Wales. We are fond of England and my daughter learn in an International Section to obtain OIB, "french baccalauréat" with English for main subject, nine hours of english with litterature, history and geography. What's why we spend some weeks in England every year to improve her english. Mine is not so good, sorry...
I look and read your blog every morning and appreciate the pictures from England!
Read about you soon, have a good week-end!
