At Little Lady's nursery they are having a big
clear out to make way for some new furniture coming. A skip arrived
last week and all sorts of old, broken, rusty, disused bits and pieces
began piling up. A box was put inside the front door for us to "help
ourselves" and yesterday I couldn't resist having a rummage. I found
this little tray, a bit dented and slightly rusty in places, but it
immediately reminded me of my childhood. I'm not sure if its the
pattern or the colours but something about it made me think of being a
little girl and having lunch in the garden with my Mum. It was unexpected that nostalgic trip back into my childhood, but it made me love the little tray very much.
Whilst I was waiting for Little Lady to come out of her classroom, I was trying to be very casual about the whole tray thing, I already felt so attached to it and was feeling kind of nervous in case anyone might come along and tell me to put it back. I could see one of the other Mums really staring at it, and then she said to me "oh, you've found a tray!".
I said enthusiastically "yes, isn't it lovely?", but she kind of shrugged her shoulders and said "mmm" with a look that suggested I was slightly doolally.
Of course Little Lady thought it a great find too and joyfully took charge of it as soon as she realised it was coming home with us. Clang, clang, the tray gets dragged up two flights of stairs. Pretend tea for one, cosied up on the window seat in the attic with a view over the hills. Perfect.

Seems like I've been stuck in all winter with poorly children and my crochet :D. Fairly new to your wonderful blog so now I'm enjoying going right back to the beginning of your blog for a bit of brightness and adult company! Thank you for sharing - I'd have given the tray a home too!

Had to let you know that I am now the proud owner of the exact same tray!! I was doing some tidying for my poorly grandma today and came across it in her cupboard and she said it could come home to stay with me! It's strange I had a vague memory when I first spotted your tray on here. ooooh the excitement when I opened that cupboard door.! Made my day xx

I had to comment on this even though I know that your post is over a year old, but I am a newcomer to your blog so still discovering some of your delights. My mum still has that tray and I always found it to be horribly dated and old fashioned, however, seeing it appear so many times throughout your blog makes me look at it in a very different way. She also has a very bright, orange tray in the same size although that one doesn't have any patterns on it.

As soon as I saw the tray it took me back to my childhood too, I'm sure we had the same one or a coffee set in the same pattern as I recognised it instantlly, there are so many things I'm noticing lately that do that including the new house, I think thats why I fell for it straight away as there lots of things decoration wise that were in my childhood home, does it mean it's a sign of gettig old..argh!!! Thanks for the post!! claire xx
