Monthly Mosaics

Hello! Happy Friday to you!!

Yesterday I was browsing through some of my photographs and realised that I'd gotten a little behind with creating my monthly mosaics this year. So this morning I've spent a delicious hour or so catching up with myself, and taking a weeny review of life at Attic24 through the first third of 2009. And I have to say it's veeeeery bright! And veeeeeery cheerful! And veeeeeery colourful! Well you wouldn't expect anything less now would you?

I'm sorry I can't really stop and chat much today, but I have Little Lady off school and needing some cuddles. So I shall leave you with this eyecandy and am off to the sofa to snuggle. Enjoy............

Hello, lovely to see you as always, thanks so much for stopping by.

Today you are joining me in a celebration, a little belated celebration of the Old Year. When New Year comes around, I always find I am not quite ready to begin planning for it until I've had a thorough chew over the year just gone by. So this is what I'm doing today :: having a good ol chew on 2008 before I get on with the business of welcoming 2009.

2008 :: what a year! I feel so blessed, it was a year of such creativity and happy discovery for me. I busied myself settling in to a new house, in a new town, making new friends.  And then there was the start of Attic24. wow. Without sounding all dramatic, I can honestly say that starting to write this blog has really changed my life. I don't feel now is the time to talk Blog, I'll save that for another time...today I simply want to share my photographs with you, photographs which sum up what a happy, bright, colourful and creative year 2008 was for me.

As you probably know, I do enjoy taking photographs with my little Canon Ixus. I take photographs most days, and as a result I have amassed a fair collection of images (typically 300 or so a month). There were over 5000 photos for 2008. For someone like me who thrives on visuals, creating these 3x3 mosaics has been a very exciting project to work on. The above collection was a very random selection of favourite images that kind of sum up my life chez Attic24. Sewing, crochet, flowers, baking, walking, family time, me-time. And now, here follows a month by month visual diary of 2008. Remember you can click on each image to pop it up in a larger window. Here we go then, I so hope you enjoy!

I'm a bit lost for words really after that little lot!

I hope it's not been too much bombarding you with all these images? I'm thinking that throughout this year it'd be fun to make one of these 3x3's at the end of each month, a sort of Attic24 Visual Summary. And  with that in mind I've created a little photo album to put them in :: so at any time you feel the need for a colour fix of Attic24 life, you can look over in my sidebar (down near the bottom) and have a little looky at these "Monthly Mosaics". You don't have to of course. Just saying it's there.

SO pheww, I feel better now. Feel kind of refreshed for the year ahead. Folks, I have such a LOT of stuff whizzing around in my head right now, so many projects and things that I wish to make happen, it promises to be a busy old time here at Attic24 over the next twelve months. A new crochet blanket will be starting shortly. House renovations also beginning very soon. New recipes coming, new things growing, an Etsy shop to open...ooooo I am so excited for it all! Yipppeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

Photographs

I've had quite a few compliments about my photography recently, which has made me smile. Smile a lot actually. I certainly don't consider myself a photographer and am not particularly skilled or technical. I definitely belong to the point-and-shoot school of thought. But through Flickrville and Blogland I have learnt how wonderful photos can be, how the every day stuff of life can be elevated somewhat by a decent photo.

The camera I use is a Canon Ixus 65. J researched it all, read reviews and lots of geeky photography forums before we (he) decided which one to get. Its easy to use and I have the measure of it in so far as I know how to get the pictures I want. I was especially amazed when I discovered that the little tulip symbol allowed me to focus on closeup stuff, wow, that was a eureka moment for me last year (I now know this is called macro but I am not one for jargon, it bores me). I never use flash (it distorts the colours too much) and I never use a tripod (I don't have one). I have the shutter speed on auto. Erm....thats about it as far as technical stuff goes!

The camera does have some nifty settings for different lighting conditions :: cloudy, sunny and the especially good indoor setting which adjusts the yellowness of tungsten lightbulbs and corrects it automatically. There is also a fabulous setting I use called V for Vivid which perfectly suits my subject matter. Without this setting on, I find my photos are disappointingly dull and lucklustre, using the V  has a way of bringing things to life and making bright colours true, if that makes sense.

I do love taking pictures for my blog, love focusing on the small things. These pictures I'm showing you today are all random shots from around the house this morning. No styling, no faffing, just point-and-shoot from the living/dining room to the hallway to the bathroom.

Buttons, ceramics, fruit, napkins, clothes, bags, soap. Strong colours like a heartbeat throughout the house. I know it's not everybody's taste, but having colourful things around is essential to my wellbeing. If you've got time, just hop across and glance at my "Home" set on Flickr, isn't it just a riot of colour? Mad isn't it?!

Our house is still a majorly long way from being how I want it as we have done very little since moving in seven months ago. There are big things I really don't like (blue hall carpet, most of the kitchen etc), so for the time being I focus on the small things.
