If you could hear inside my head today, you would hear a quiet and gentle exhale. Phheeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww. That is the sound my internal self makes on the 27th December every year :: it's the quiet sound of contentment mixed with the gentle sound of relief. Christmas has been and gone and it was oh so Very Good.
I really love this particular day in the year, it is a day for peaceful enjoyment. The pace is slow and relaxed and the atmosphere is lazy and playful. There has been lots of film watching, game playing, colouring and role play. There has been reading, browsing, chatting and hooking.
Little B's most favourite toy this year has been a rather nifty Bosch Tool Belt, with yellow hard hat and builders jacket. He built two houses today, and carried out numerous small household repairs. Little Lady delighted me this year by remaining a firm fan of Sylvania (long may it last!) and asking for the Campervan. It is a truly gorgeous toy, and we had much fun setting it all up together. There was some super-sweet shared play going on this morning when she invited Little B to go on a camping trip with her (she had the campervan, he had the Caravan
), it was lovely listening in to snippets of their conversation. Little Man asked for lots of books this year, and a new game for his PS3, so he has been very happy with his buddies today, off in some virtual fantasy world. There has been much excited shouting and laughter all day here at number 24, the sound of children happily at play.
I've spent much of the day pootling about in my Comfort-wear (ooo look, you can see me in my new snuggle-top reflected in the mirror up there), doing nothing in particular. I had no need to go out, and nothing pressing to do aside from tackling the horrendously large pile of dirty laundry. It was a day of relaxation and pleasure-seeking. How luxurious!
I spent some time in Magazine Wonderland, ooohing and ahhhing my way through the January issues. Lots of warm, cosy, snugly vibes in those pages which went very well with my mince pie and chocolate-dusted coffee. I laughed at the picture of the very pretty lady sat elegantly on the floor with her yarny pursuits, cos that's exactly what I've been up to, although my outfit was a little more slovenly.....
...pink fluff and brushed cotton for me, the perfect outfit for hooky comfort I'd say. Yeah, I've been having a high old time in the Hooky Zone, working my happy way around the edge of my ripple. At long last eh, as the main ripple part of the blanket was completed months ago, but it remained borderless and felt unfinished.
This afternoon the blanket finally became a Finished Object and I'm very much looking forward to putting some images together and showing it off to you. Even though you have been used to seeing it around on my blog (it's been in constant use here this Winter), it still deserves it's Ta-dah moment.
Number 24 has felt happy, cosy and bright today, with a beautiful After Christmas glow. It's been a day full of happy.

Lucy, you are such an inspiration!!!! Never mind the crochet - I recently bought a pair of pyjamas (I don't usually wear them) so that yesterday I could get out of bed AND PUT THEM ON because it was the first day, for about 10 days, that I didn't have to do anything for anyone else. No Christmas shopping, ferrying children to rehearsals, going to my daughter's (plural) Christmas dance show, working a full week, going to a 5pm OUTDOOR nativity (brrr) as a parent, putting on two Christmas shows as a teacher, having a class Christmas party (30 overexcited Y4 children.....) having a birthday party for my 8 year old, wrapping gifts, etc. So, the pyjamas went on and the knitting needles AND crochet hook came out. Loveleeeeee.

I love the time between Christmas and New Year - relaxing and leftovers! I need to follow your example and get to work on my ripple blanket - it's been rather neglected recently :(

Our Christmas is always a bit extended as we see different Grandparents and aunties throughout the week between Christmas and new year but there has been plenty of quiet relaxing time going on as well.
I'm loving the look of your ripple, I'm about halfway through my own blanket following your pattern and need to take some more pictures too, I hope to have more time for it, now all the Christmas present crafts are finished (or nearly finished!)

I recently found your blog and it is officially the first blog I am (definitely) addicted to! I work very hard at not getting sucked into the virtual world, (because I really like the real one!), but reading your blog doesn't feel virtual at all. I think that's the charm and charismatic pull. Thank you for representing the real out here!
Also, I've not thought about how wonderful the 27th is, and you're right, so thanks for the illumination. My favorite day is Christmas Eve-Eve, anticipation at its highest!
Thanks again and please keep writing and posting and hooking!

There's something peculiarly lovely about these post-Christmas days - relaxed and togethery (if that's a word!) without the pressure that can build up around Christmas Day itself. Enjoy every minute of them, Lucy! E xx
