I've had a very slow, restorative day today. I've not been feeling great so I settled myself horizontally on the sofa for much of the day with a hot water bottle on my stomach and a blanket or two wrapped around. Before I allowed myself to flop I tidied up in this room, it gets itself into a shocking state across the weekend with five of us all in here, plus various visiting children added into the mix. Really I didn't want to bend and stoop and pick up, plump and straighten and rearrange. I really resented doing it today actually. But I longed for some sort of visual calm and order so I Just Got On With It. It was worth the effort in the end.
I was grateful for a quiet (ish) house as Little B was off with Daddy visiting his grandparents, and although I ended up with four Little People in the house, they chose to play upstairs in bedrooms leaving me to slug about in my jammies downstairs. I managed half a row on my ripple. And half a magazine (it was a good half). But mostly I've just been still, doing nothing but drinking tea and looking around the room. Thinking how much I love being here, especially when I'm feeling a bit under the weather. Sometimes just Staying Home feels like the greatest luxury.
I lit the fire around about 3pm, it's been bitterly cold here this past week and we are expecting snow anytime soon. I didn't much feel like cleaning out and lighting the fire, but at the same time I longed for it's warmth and comfort. So I Just Got On With It. I cleaned, set, lit and tended until it was happy and established, and then I flopped back to my sofa. It was worth the effort.
I'm not sure what this post is about really. I just thought these few photos looked so warm and cosy and homely and I wanted to share them. We've had so many of these sorts of weekends lately that I keep thinking really it's about time we Went Out Somewhere and stopped being so lazy and indoorsy. But if it's the place we really want to be more than anywhere else, then that's ok isn't it? We can be active and outdoorsy when the temperature rises. For now, Home is where it's at.

Your home looks so cosy! Hope you feel better soon xx

You have been whizzing around like a creative whirling dervish thing lately, hope you're feeling more like soon. It's a luxury to just sit and be content (once tidy) with all that surrounds you, so enjoy it and recouperate. Then we can have you back whirling around again!

Blimey - feeling under the weather and you STILL 'Just Got On With It'! Well done that woman! Feet up, kettle on, slob out for a bit, go on, you deserve it. Hope you're feeling better soon, love the colours as usual. Lx.

I hope you feel well again soon.
But there is nothing but a cosy day spend at a lovely home, especially with a fireplace like yours. And with all your colourful creations around you, that should cheer you up again.
I hope you didn't catch a bug, though.

sorry you're under the weather; perfect place to be, though--in all that coziness. Hugs.

I love your pics of your cozy home! I hope you get to feeling better! We are having a very rainy soggy day, so I'm staying cozy inside having tea and just being lazy.
Hugz to you Miss Lucy! Get better fast! Lisa

Isn't it funny, No matter how ill I am, if my surroundings aren't tidy I just have to clean it all up before I can rest. Your room looks so cosy. Hope you are feelong better.

there's a lot to be said for Just Getting On With It. Very unattractive prospect however....

Always love your post and photos. I too had a quiet day, but did make one of your tin covers for my chicken can. I've put my mini-rose bush in it on my desk and it's quite lovely. My family thinks I'm slightly bonkers, but that's okay and really not new.

Dear Lucy a day at home without having to go anywhere is heaven as far as I

There really is no place like home Lucy- so thanks for sharing the lovely photos. The fire looked gorgeous, there really is nothing like a wood fire. I myself have a gas fireplace but long for a real wood fire sometimes. Feel better soon!

We have a term to describe folks who prefer "home" to being "out". We call such a person a "Home-Body." Do you use that term? I'm not sure if that is strictly American or if it is more of a Souther (US) thing. But, I've always been described as a Home-Body, because I prefer to stay home. I was home all day, but busy. I enjoyed the cozy pics of your day at home.

Oops...that should be "Southern" thing.

Sorry you're not feeling too well Lucy, I do hope you'll soon be feeling much better. Take care and have some time out until you are right again. Much love xxx

Oh, Lucy...I do hope you're feeling better by now.
I understand just how much home can mean to you because I've been recuperating from surgery the last six weeks and there's no where else I'd rather be than at home. I've surrounded myself with things that bring me comfort (crochet to be worked on, a snuggly afghan, tea, my 2 cats, and my DH waiting on me (LOL)).
Here's a warm (((hug)))...stay well :)

Hope you are feeling better soon Lucy. The idea of snuggling on the couch with a warm fire does sound enticing though. Hope hubby made you a hot chocolate or something when he got home! :)

I can't blame you for wanting to stay around the house, especially when it is cold outside. Here in Colorado, you hardly see your neighbors in the winter, but when summer arrives everyone wants to be outside and my neighborhood is filled with the noise of children playing. Hope you feel better soon! Jean

Feel better soon. If ever there was a time to hibernate, I would say it's now! You have a lovely nest, enjoy.

Hope you are soon feeling better. Very cosy photos.
There really is no place like home...... clicks her heels and leaves.

I hope you are feeling better soon!! Sending prayers your way :)
I completely agree. Home is the place to be, especially in the winter months. I've been finding myself wanting to stay home where it's cozy and warm instead of venturing out in the snow lately, so as much as it's possible, that's what I've been doing. And I must say I've been enjoying it a lot!
Oh, by the way, your Ripple is looking great! Your colours are fantastic!

I hope you feel better soon! The ripple blanket is looking gorgeous! You have a fabulous sense for color mixing. I wish I lived next door to you to, so that I could bug you for help. :) I've caught your tin-cover bug. I just made my first tuna tin cover, and I'm thrilled with it. My hubby is a tuna fan, so I'm never short on tuna tins. The only problem is that I'm super low on cotton yarn. Need to order soon! Oh my! I cannot wait!

That sofa looks to be the best place to be when you're feeling under the weather. Actually, it looks like it's a great place to just be!

I really want to thank you for posting this little update- I've been avoiding doing a LOT of things around the house lately (really important stuff too, like getting the nursery ready for the baby that will be here soon) and you've just inspired me to JUST GET ON WITH IT.
I needed that little push :)

I Just Got on With It this morning before the heat set in, now it' 33C and a bit too hot to do anything. Lounge flopping with a fan is called for.
Hope you are on the mend.
