I love sweets. I mean, I really, really love them. I love pretty much all sweets with the exception of liquorice which is the devils work.
I love the colours, the flavours, the ritual of choosing and buying, and the pleasure of owning a bag all-to-myself :: such acute reminders of childhood.
Yesterday I was in Marks and Spencers buying a jar of pickle (about all I can afford in M&S) and when queuing at the checkout I was suddenly overcome with a huge, undeniable need for some of these sweets. There were others that might have tempted me, but these Fruit Sherbets looked so summery and pretty and fruity that before I could ponder the why's and wherefore's, they had jumped off the hook and into my hand.
And oh! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! They are delicious! SO fruity! And so fizzy too! I tried all five flavours and have to tell you that the blackcurrant comes out tops.
I have to confess that buying these sweets did make me feel a weeny bit guilty. It's a bit of an indulgence buying a whole packet of sweets without the intention of sharing a single one with anyone. They are mine all mine.
The Little People gazed longingly at this bowl and asked in polite, hopeful voices if they might try one.
No, I'm very sorry but you may not.
They are far too big for Little Mouths, you may choke.
And besides, they are mine-all-mine.
They are Mummy Sweets.

They look very Yummy Mummy Sweets Lucy! Who could blame you for wanting to keep them for yourself :O)

Mmm they look yummy. I have to go into London today for an interview and as there's an M+S at Marylebone station I'm thinking I may have to treat myself to a packet of these on the way back as a reward for getting through the interview and to go with the magazine I've promised myself on the way home too! Just hope I get the job to pay for them both!

Years ago when I traveled more to England, my nephews always asked to bring back a huge sack of sweets from Woolworth's--they were so different and such interesting names and unexpected flavors.....they would do the usual child thing of separating them and counting and ordering what would be eaten first, etc....which do you eat first? What flavors go with what colors? Don't you just feel rich to have soooooo many???

Oooh yeah we all need a little Mummy treat every now and again, I love all sweets too, bit of a downfall really! I usually give in though and end up giving them to the kids, although I have been known to hide things like this in my wool stash for emergency's!!
Enjoy every one! You deserve them!

Yummy.
They look delicious.
Perhaps you should have brought some other sweets for the little ones to make you feel a little less guilty?
Enjoy xx

Yes, sometimes it is the nicest thing in the world to have something to ones self. :)

I hide some chocolate in one of the kitchen cupboards - away from little hands and just for me! How selfish!:) You enjoy your treat - a few Mummy sweets wont do any harm.

Ha Ha - you might choke. How many mummies use this excuse I wonder. I used to hide behind the cupboard door where I kept my posh choc and quickly eat it before the Bun's noticed. Who says mummies have to share everything.

Very nice - until you get to that point where you realise your tongue has been lacerated and that you have to keep it hanging out of your mouth for a bit (yes, just like the dog). Definitely not for sharing with children.

Does your dentist love the fact that you love sweets? :-) Mine would be rubbing his hands together with glee!

I love sweets too, and I will hide them from the kiddos - I'm such a bad mom - LOL!!

Ah, the choking defence... you are a cunning Mummy.
Mine have rumbled my secret mini egg stash. Rats.

Ahhhh...... go on, give in!!! Picture their little faces as they sit side by side on your beautiful cosy blanket... hands on knees... waiting... longing... just one mummy pleeeeease!!
Sorry Lucy, that was mean of me, because I know what a soft touch you are really!! I bet you bought them some child friendly ones too!!

Indeed they are Mummy sweets, good call on the blackcurrant! My second fave is their fruit rocks, they look so pretty too! I'm glad other people post about this kind of thing!

LOL I have to confess to Mummy Chocolate, late at night when wee one's are sleeping!

Haha ~ Mummy Sweets. I love it!
I miss M&S. There used to be a few in Canada, but I don't think there's even one left open now. I miss Battenburg cake and shrimp cocktail crisps the most. Sigh. Good memories of childhood tea time.

Yummy! I do not blame you one bit for keeping all those sweets to yourself:) Somethings are NOT meant to be shared! Chocolates are NOT meant to be shared in my house and the peeps (ages 16 & 21) have given up asking:) And I'm able to indulge during the nap time of my 2 year old....ENJOY your sweets Lucy!

Sweets are my favourite thing too and I'm particularly partial to a sherbet fruit too!

Naughty, naughty (wagging finger) Oh, well... do a little extra gardening to burn off the calories! They do look awfully tempting...I wonder if I have anything sweet in the cupboard.. Oh, Lucy...now look what you've gone and done! Kate~

I'm not a sweet tooth Lucy, but you're blog is truly delicious. I could eat that crochet !

This is so funny! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does this (though I tend to have mummy chocolate). Sadly though my children are now big enough to be more wise, they no longer ask, just wait for me to leave said deliciousness unattended and then pounce. I have become very sneaky about finding hiding places! And licorice, the devil's work? No way, it is one of my favourites, infact I may just have to go and find some very soon...
